DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities and USD 497 were investigating a report of a gun at at Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive in Lawrence on Tuesday.
The Resource Officer at the school learned students were overheard in the bathroom talking about having a gun, according to a report from Lawrence Police. School staff and police contacted the involved students, separated them from their backpacks, and ensured no gun was present.
One student got scared and ran from the building during questioning, but was detained and released. The School Resource Officer determined there was no safety threat and no students were at risk.
