Police: 2 critically injured in Kan. shooting, vehicle crash

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a pair of shootings, a car crash and working to determine if the crimes are related.

Just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of SE Maryland Avenue in Topeka reference a shooting that had just occurred, according to Police LT. Matt Danielson.

Officers arrived and found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Moments after this shooting, officers responded to the intersection of SW 29th and SW Mulvane Avenue reference an injury accident involving a single vehicle. Officers arrived to find a vehicle that had driven into a concrete retaining wall on the south side of 29th Street.

The adult male driver was suffering from a life threatening gunshot wound. That person was also transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives are currently investigating both incidents to determine if they are related.
