Kansas registered offender arrested for man's murder

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal shooting on Monday in Topeka have arrest 36-year-old Christopher L. Brown of Topeka, according to Police Lt. Donna Eubanks.

Just after 6:30p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to a report of gunshots in the 2300 block of SE Bellview Avenue in Topeka, according to Police Lt. Edward Stanley.

First responders found 33-year-old Sherman Coleman, Jr. suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he died.

As a result of the investigation, police reported on Thursday they arrested Brown and booked him on requested charges of Murder in the 1st Degree, Criminal possession of a weapon and a Violation of the offender registration act.

Brown has been a registered offender since 2015 for convictions that include attempted aggravated murder, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault.
