Kan. man jailed for alleged DUI crash into home

FINNEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an injury accident that occurred just after 1:30a.m. Monday in the 900 block of Jenny Avenue in Garden City.

Officers observed a Honda CR-V driven by 23-year-old Alex Ortiz had struck the west side of a residence.

First responders found Ortiz sitting in the vehicle. EMS transported him to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment of injuries. The vehicle was removed from inside the residence and towed from the scene. The homeowner was inside the residence at the time of the accident but was not injured.

Through further investigation, it was determined that Ortiz was suspected of driving under the influence. After he was released from the hospital, police arrested Ortiz and booked him into the Finney County Jail on requested charges of DUI, Transportation of an Open Container, Possession of Marijuana and Tampering with Ignition Interlock.

The west side of the residence was assessed for damage and deemed unlivable, with total estimated damage at $30,000.00.
