HAYS, Kan. - With fundraising ongoing for the new Athletic Complex at Lewis Field Stadium, Don and Chris Bickle have stepped forward with an additional matching gift of $1 million as a challenge to others interested in supporting the project. The 20,000-square foot facility is in the design stage with HTK Architects and is expected to be located just beyond the south end zone of Lewis Field as a stand-alone structure. Other renderings have shown the facility as an attachment to the Schmidt-Bickle Indoor Training Facility. The majority of the new facility addresses growing needs for the Tiger Football program. Plans are in place for a facility to house a larger locker room for up to 130 players, new coach offices and team meeting rooms, and an expanded sports medicine facility to be utilized by all FHSU athletic programs. The proposed facility is two levels, with the new locker room and sports medicine facilities on the ground level, and the coach offices and meeting rooms on the second level above ground. Fundraising goals were originally targeted at $6.5 million, but cost increases are anticipated related to construction inflation. As new renderings and concepts are developed, new projections will be addressed in the fundraising plan. This latest gift from the Bickles brings the total of confirmed gifts toward the project to just over $5 million. Their initial major donation toward the project was announced back in April. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani struck out a career-high 13 over eight dominant innings of two-hit ball, and the AL MVP also reached base three times in the Los Angeles Angels' 5-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.

After giving up two singles to start the first, Ohtani (6-4) retired 16 straight Royals and 23 of the final 24 batters he faced. While matching the longest start of his major league career, he allowed just one baserunner over his final seven innings — on a walk that was quickly erased by a double play.

With the backdrop of a rare Southern California lightning storm illuminating the sky far beyond center field at the Big A, Ohtani also had a single and two walks at the plate in his latest electrifying two-way performance.

One night after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-sports-los-angeles-angels-baseball-4351449edd0a0f2c6aaa6f802c948d48">Ohtani hit two three-run homers</a>&nbsp;and drove in a career-high eight runs in an extra-inning loss, he set a new career mark for strikeouts by fanning Emmanuel Rivera on his 108th and final pitch.

David MacKinnon got his first major league hit with an RBI single in the seventh for the Angels, who avoided a series sweep with their fourth victory in six games overall. Luis Rengifo had an RBI double in the seventh before scoring on that single to right by MacKinnon, who got his first career RBI two innings earlier with a sacrifice fly.

After scoring 18 runs in the previous two games at Angel Stadium, the Royals were shut out for the second time in four days and the 10th time this season. Kansas City still has won five of seven.

But Ohtani is unbeatable on the mound lately, allowing just one run in his last 20 innings over three starts. In his most recent home start two weeks ago, he pitched seven innings of one-run ball and also homered in a victory that snapped the Angels' franchise-record 14-game skid.

Whit Merrifield and Andrew Benintendi singled in the Royals' first two at-bats against Ohtani, but the Angels' two-way superstar then set down every batter he faced until Merrifield drew a one-out walk in the sixth — and Benintendi quickly grounded into a double play.

Ohtani's fastball topped 99 mph twice in the second half of his start while he dazzled Kansas City, getting a whopping 34 combined strikes on swing-and-misses or called strikes.

Daniel Lynch (3-7) wasn't as effective for the Royals early on, but the left-hander resourcefully shut down the Angels until they loaded the bases in the fifth on two walks and an infield single. Lynch, who left after MacKinnon's sacrifice fly, gave up three hits and five walks on a career-high 104 pitches.

Mike Trout got a rest day for the Angels, leaving their struggling lineup decidedly lacking punch. But MacKinnon came through as the team's improbable cleanup hitter, getting first major league hit after getting called up last weekend for his MLB debut.

Andrew Velazquez and Taylor Ward drove in insurance runs in the eighth for Los Angeles.

Royals: C Salvador Perez sat out after reinjuring his left thumb on a swing Tuesday night, but manager Mike Matheny said the team is still determining the seriousness of the injury after an MRI exam.

Angels: RHP Jimmy Herget went on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement. Right-handers Elvis Peguero and Oliver Ortega came up from Triple-A Salt Lake, while inconsistent rookie&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-sports-baseball-los-angeles-angels-51ae628e15cafb11d864793518a7439c">Reid Detmers went down</a>&nbsp;just six starts after throwing a no-hitter.

More postseason honors for Hays High’s Dylan Dreiling. The
recently graduated senior has been named to the America Baseball Coaches
Association/Rawlings High School All-American Third Team as an outfielder.

Dreiling has also been named to the Sports In Kansas Top-9 as well as the 5A Player of the Year and a first team outfielder in
Class 5A. Garrett Wellbrock was named to the second team as
a utility player by SIK. Fellow seniors Noah Weimer and Dalton Dale are honorable
mention selections.

Dreiling was earlier named the Kansas Association of
Baseball Coaches 5A Player of the Year where he was a first team outfielder and
honorable mention pitcher. Wellbrock was an honorable mention pick at pitcher
and infielder and Weimer an honorable mention infielder by the KABC.

TMP-Marian's Jace Wentling was named a first team catcher in Class 3A. The Monarchs Nick Herrman, Mark Rack, Nick Helget and Caden Morgan were all name honorable mention.

Tickets for Kansas City Chiefs training camp became available to season ticket holders Tuesday and now can be reserved by the general public, starting Wednesday.

The Chiefs will be back in St. Joseph for training camp for a 12th time this summer with open practices starting July 28. Missouri Western athletic director Andy Carter says preparations continue as the campus and city get ready to roll out the red carpet.

"I think it's very exciting," Carter said. "We actually had an operational meeting (Tuesday) and kind of worked through a lot of the moving parts. I think it will be more exciting once they actually get here and we're facing live bullets rather than talking about it. But, it's an exciting time to be a Griffon."

All training camp practices will be held at the Mosaic Training Fields on the Missouri Western campus. Members of the general public can reserve their training camp tickets starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday by going to Chiefs.com/trainingcamp.

While fans were allowed back at camp in 2021, there were still certain COVID restrictions in place. This year is full steam ahead, as fan autograph sessions are back after being suspended last summer.

Marci Bennett, executive director for the St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau, says getting camp back last year was nice, but there were still difficulties.

"Last year was kind of like tiptoeing through the tulips," she said. "Because, we didn't have it the year before and then last year, we were still really perusing the COVID situation."

Even with the restrictions last year, Bennett says the economic impact of training camp in the city is hard to exactly measure, but is certainly palpable.

"We know it's a big impact," she said. "Our hotels show a big increase and they can tell. I mean, they're not asking people if they're here for Chiefs camp, but if three-fourths of the people checking in on a Friday night have Chiefs jerseys on, you know it's making an impact."

Carter says this is the final year the Chiefs are required to come to St. Joseph, according to the current agreement. But, he's optimistic a more long-term deal can be sorted out.

"They're not required to tell us what they want to do necessarily until March when their season is over," he explained. "But, I can tell you I have had a conversation, very high-level, very brief. Didn't dig in, but started that discussion and it was very positive."

The Chiefs have come to St. Joseph for camp every year since 2010, with the exception of 2020 due to COVID-19.

The CVB is still in the process of planning and marketing this year's camp, but Bennett says one staple, the 'Welcome Chiefs' yard signs, will start popping up again soon.

"Not only does that welcome the Chiefs," she said, "but it reminds all of our local residents that, 'Hey! The Chiefs are here! They're here right now!' That's kind of cool, too. It kind of pumps up the community."

Moreover, Bennett says training camp is a great opportunity for fans from outside the city to explore St. Joseph and learn more about what it has to offer.

"What that does in my mind is help those Chiefs fans realize that, 'Okay, once Chiefs season is over, and we want to go somewhere and not have to put five tanks of gas in our car to get there, let's go to St. Joe. Let's see what that town really is all about.'"

fifth inning to tie then added three in the sixth to take the lead and beat the
Hays Larks 7-6 in a non-league game at Larks Park. The loss ends the Larks
eight-game winning-streak and is also their first home loss this summer.

The Larks (12-3) scored three in the fourth to take a 4-2
lead but the Cannons answered with two in the fifth to tie. After the Larks re-took
the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, the Cannons score three in the sixth
to take the lead for good. The Larks scored a run in the bottom of the sixth
but were shutout over the final three innings.

Caden Hare (0-1) was one of six Larks pitchers in the game
and allowed one earned run on three hits over 1 1/3 innings and suffered the
loss.

Tyler LaRue had three hits including a home run and drove in
three. His first inning double drove in Tanner Rice to get the Larks their
first run. LaRue scored the tying run in the second when Ben Fierenzi was hit
by a pitch. He gave the Larks the lead back in the fifth with a solo homer.

The Larks are on the road for nine of their next 11 games

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit two three-run homers, including a dramatic game-tying drive in the bottom of the ninth inning. He drove in a career-high eight runs, the most by a Japanese-born player in major league history.

And somehow, it still was not enough for his Los Angeles Angels to beat the Kansas City Royals.

Whit Merrifield led off the 11th inning with an RBI double, and the Royals overcame Ohtani’s historic performance for a 12-11 victory Tuesday night.

Ohtani crushed a 423-foot homer in the sixth and a tying, 438-foot shot in the ninth, giving him the biggest RBI game of his five-year stateside career. The AL MVP then set the single-game record for RBIs by a Japanese-born player with a sacrifice fly in the 11th inning.

Although he never complains publicly, Ohtani would be perfectly justified in feeling frustrated by his Los Angeles teammates' tepid pitching performance behind his latest heroics. But the Royals knew they won with some remarkable hitting of their own, including landmark games for both Carlos Santana and rookie Bobby Witt Jr.

“That's one of the most fun games I've ever been a part of," said Witt, who had his first multi-homer game while driving in a career-high four runs. “Just top to bottom, there was a lot of energy going on. It was a blast. ... Every time Ohtani or (Mike) Trout come up to the plate, you hold your breath a little bit out there. It's fun to watch them play, and hopefully they don't do as much damage as they did against us (tonight)."

Ohtani's eighth RBI wasn't enough, because Merrifield and Kyle Isbel both drove in runs off Jose Quijada (0-2) earlier in the 11th.

Daniel Mengden struck out Trout with two Angels on base before Ohtani's flyout, and he retired Jared Walsh on a game-ending popup. Mengden earned his first save of the season and the second of his career as Kansas City held on for its fifth victory in six games despite blowing a five-run lead in the sixth and a three-run lead in the ninth.

“Just the energy and the fight, the way we just kept punching,” Kansas City manager Mike Matheny said. “We'd take one, and they kept coming back. That's what I love to see. ... You see a game like that, and it's one that begins to repeat itself.”

Santana had four hits and drove in a season-high five runs for the Royals, who battered the Angels' staff despite losing slugger Salvador Perez to a thumb injury in the third inning. Kansas City led 6-1 midway through the sixth before the Angels’ star hitters finally got going.

Along with Ohtani's excellence, Walsh doubled, tripled and homered while driving in two runs for the Angels. He fell just short of his second cycle in 11 days.

“This one stings,” Angels interim manager Phil Nevin said. “That room is hurting in there. You feel like it’s in your grasp a couple of times, and you worked hard to get back in it. We just never quite got the lead, but a lot of great performances. We swung the bats great in some tight spots.”

Ohtani trimmed the Angels’ deficit to 6-4 when he drove his 14th homer to right-center. Royals starter Jonathan Heasley had pitched four-hit ball into the sixth before Ohtani’s shot chased him.

Kansas City then led 10-7 entering the bottom of the ninth after Santana’s late RBI single and Witt’s two-run homer, but Tyler Wade singled and Trout walked before Ohtani drove them home with a no-doubt blast to right.

Santana began his monster game with an RBI double and a two-run homer before adding RBI singles in the sixth and eighth. Witt homered in the first inning, added an RBI double off the wall in the seventh and delivered a two-run homer in the ninth.

Walsh got three extra-base hits in four innings midway through the game, but couldn't get a hit in two additional at-bats. He finished a single shy of matching his first career cycle on June 11 against the Mets.

Two Japanese players had previously driven in seven runs in a major league game. Tadahito Iguchi did it for the White Sox in 2006, and Hideki Matsui matched it for the Yankees in 2009.

Nevin was ejected during a pitching change in the seventh inning after arguing vociferously with the umpiring crew. Nevin was angry about a debatable balk call on Halos reliever Andrew Wantz earlier in the game.

Royals: Perez injured his thumb while swinging, but stayed in the game and completed his at-bat. The catcher said he'll have an MRI exam on his left thumb Wednesday, and he won't be surprised if he misses a few days. “Hopefully it's nothing bad,” Perez said. “I've just got to wait.”

Ohtani (5-4, 3.28 ERA) looks to string together three straight mound victories in the series finale against Kansas City's Daniel Lynch (3-6, 5.19). Ohtani's only previous pitching start against Kansas City was back in his AL Rookie of the Year season in 2018.

Hays High has their new boys basketball coach. Sean Dreiling is the new coach following approval at Monday night's USD 489 Board of Education Meeting.&nbsp;

Dreiling had recently accepted a teaching and assistant basketball coaching position at the school. That transpired prior to former coach Alex Hutchins discussions with Washburn Rural which eventually led to Hutchins taking the head coaching job with the Junior Blues.

Dreiling spent six seasons as the head coach of Trego Community High School compiling a record of 68-62. The Golden Eagles when 19-5 this past season and 16-6 the year prior.

Dreiling hails from Estes Park, Colorado but has lived in Hays since attending Fort Hays State University on a basketball scholarship. He was a player for the Tigers from 2007 to 2012. He was on the basketball coaching staff from 2012 to 2016 and even served a season as the men's golf coach.

Dreiling already lives in Hays with his wife, who is a USD 489 teacher, and family.

The summer schedule put in place for the basketball team prior to the coaching change will stay the same.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — All the small things are starting to add up to big results for the Kansas City Royals.

The Royals got some timely hits and another solid outing from their starting pitcher as they won for the fourth time in the last five games Monday night.

Andrew Benintendi, Salvador Perez and Hunter Dozier homered, Nicky Lopez drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and Kris Bubic got his first victory of the season in the Royals' 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

“The big hits, the pitching, just all the little components we've been wanting to see everything put together and we've had that in the last few games. It’s important for our guys to see it and know what to expect," manager Mike Matheny said.

Kris Bubic, who came into the game as one of four pitchers in the majors to have at least eight starts and no wins this season, struck out a season-high seven in six innings to improve to 1-4.

“As a pitcher, if you did your job the results kind of take care of itself,” said Bubic, who gave up two runs on six hits and walked two in six innings. “The offense getting on the board early gives you a little more confidence especially early on to attack, trust your stuff and go from there.”

Taylor Ward had two hits — including a homer in the third inning — and drove in both runs for the Angels. Los Angeles had come in with some momentum after taking four of five in Seattle, but managed only seven hits.

“I thought we had some good at-bats. Were they consistent throughout? Probably not, but we did hit a lot of balls hard,” manager Phil Nevin said.

Noah Syndergaard worked into the eighth inning for only the second time in 11 starts, but struggled at the end. Syndergaard (4-6) allowed five runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked two.

“He pitched out of some trouble here and there. Truth be told, we needed to score more runs and we didn't do that,” Nevin said.

The game was tied at 2 when Dozier singled to center to lead off the seventh. He stole second and came home when Lopez lined a double to right.

Benintendi and Perez both had two-run shots as the Royals won for the fourth time in five games.

Whit Merrifield led off the game with a base hit before Benintendi drove a 94.6 mph fastball from Syndergaard into the seats in right-center to give the Royals a 2-0 lead four pitches into the game. Benintendi finished with two hits after he went 5 for 23 during the first six games of the road trip.

Perez chased Syndergaard in the eighth inning with a blast to center to make it 5-2. Dozier added a solo homer later in the frame off Jaime Barria.

Perez is a career .326 hitter (56 for 172) in 43 games against the Angels. That's third among active players with at least 150 career at-bats against the Halos.

The Angels got within 2-1 in the third inning when Ward connected on Bubic's changeup and put it into the Royals' bullpen in left field. Ward is third on the Angels with 11 home runs, but it was his first since May 29 against Toronto.

He then evened it at 2 in the fifth inning with a line drive to center to score Andrew Velazquez. Ward tried to extend it to a double but was thrown out by center fielder Michael A. Taylor, who made a quick throw to second baseman Whit Merrifield to easily get Ward.

Trout, who had five homers in the Seattle series, went 1 for 4 and has recorded a hit in 10 of his last 12 games. Since his career-worse 0-for-26 slump, the three-time AL MVP is 15 for 42 (.357) with eight home runs and 15 RBIs.

Royals: C Cam Gallagher was activated off the injured list after he missed the last 45 games due to a strained left hamstring. RHP Matt Peacock was optioned to Triple-A Omaha to open a spot for Gallagher and get down to the MLB limit of 13 pitchers on a roster.

Angels: 3B Anthony Rendon had season-ending surgery on his right wrist.

Royals: RHP Jonathan Heasley (1-3, 3.72 ERA) has not allowed more than three earned runs in his seven previous starts.

⚾ Royals hit 3 HR in win over Angels

Former national champion and current Fort Hays State track and field assistant coach Brett Meyer has qualified to run in the 2022 Toyota USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. The 2019 NCAA Division II champion in the 1,500m run will compete in the same race against the nation's best later this week in Eugene, Ore. Meyer is one of 36 Americans that qualified for this year's Outdoor Championships in the 1,500m run. The first round of competition is slated for Thursday (June 23) at 8:35 p.m. (6:35 p.m. PT) before the finals run live on NBC on Saturday (June 25) at 3:40 p.m. (1:40 p.m.). More information on the USATF Outdoor Championships can be&nbsp;<a href="https://www.usatf.org/events/2022/2022-toyota-usatf-outdoor-championships">found here</a>. The top four runners in the finals will then represent the United States of America in the World Athletics Championships July 15-24. Meyer qualified for the event after running a lifetime-best 3:37.77 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. in April. Earlier this month, the Scott City, Kan. native won the New York Grand Prix in 3:37.95 after placing third at the Music City Track Carnival in Nashville, Tenn. in 3:37.93. A native of Scott City, Kan., Meyer began his professional career immediately following his national title in the summer of 2019. He earned his first pro win at the Ryan Shay Mile in Charlevoix, Mich. in July of that year with a time of 3:58.18. Meyer first broke the four-minute mark in the mile at the St. Louis Festival of Miles in the summer of 2018 with a time of 3:59.77. He then set the Kansas indoor record in the mile with a time of 3:58.39 at the 2021 Ichabod Invite in Topeka, eclipsing a mark earlier set by Olympic silver medalist Jim Ryun. His 2021 season continued with a win at the St. Louis Festival of Miles (3:56.71) before a personal-best 3:56.18 at the Falmouth (Mass.) Track Festival. He nearly qualified for the USATF Olympic Trials in the 1,500m, running a top time of 3:38.10 at the Music City Track Carnival. Meyer placed second at the Portland (Ore.) Track Festival that year in 3:38.44 before winning the Ed Murphey Last Chance Meet in Memphis, Tenn. in 3:38.25. He wrapped up 2021 with a time of 3:51.81 in a road mile race in Cleveland, Ohio, the Guardian Mile. Meyer's national title in his final collegiate race was his sixth All-American trophy. He was an eight-time MIAA&nbsp;champion, including six individual titles and two in relays. Meyer currently holds two program records, including the indoor 1,000m run and the outdoor 4x1,600m relay.&nbsp;He served as a graduate assistant at FHSU from 2019-21 before coming on as an assistant coach in 2021-22. The first round of competition is slated for Thursday (June 23) at 8:35 p.m. (6:35 p.m. PT) before the finals run live on NBC on Saturday (June 25) at 3:40 p.m. (1:40 p.m.). A native of Scott City, Kan., Meyer began his professional career immediately following his national title in the summer of 2019. Meyer first broke the four-minute mark in the mile at the St. Louis Festival of Miles in the summer of 2018 with a time of 3:59.77. He then set the Kansas indoor record in the mile with a time of 3:58.39 at the 2021 Ichabod Invite in Topeka, eclipsing a mark earlier set by Olympic silver medalist Jim Ryun. His 2021 season continued with a win at the St. Louis Festival of Miles (3:56.71) before a personal-best 3:56.18 at the Falmouth (Mass.) Track Festival. He nearly qualified for the USATF Olympic Trials in the 1,500m, running a top time of 3:38.10 at the Music City Track Carnival. Meyer placed second at the Portland (Ore.) Track Festival that year in 3:38.44 before winning the Ed Murphey Last Chance Meet in Memphis, Tenn. in 3:38.25. He wrapped up 2021 with a time of 3:51.81 in a road mile race in Cleveland, Ohio, the Guardian Mile. Meyer's national title in his final collegiate race was his sixth All-American trophy. He was an eight-time MIAA&nbsp;champion, including six individual titles and two in relays. Meyer currently holds two program records, including the indoor 1,000m run and the outdoor 4x1,600m relay.&nbsp;He served as a graduate assistant at FHSU from 2019-21 before coming on as an assistant coach in 2021-22. HAYS – One night after three
pitchers combined on a no-hitter, five combine on a three-hitter to lead the

TOPEKA - The Hays Hammer 18U finished runner-up at the
Perfect Game Kansas Invitational over the weekend at the Bettis Family Sports Complex.
After going 4-0 in pool play in Friday and Saturday, the Hammer beat the Midwest Prospects out of Topeka
3-2 in Sunday morning’s first semifinal. They later lost 11-3 to the Cavalier Baseball Club
out of Johnson County in the finals. 

The Hammer are now 11-6 on the season. They are scheduled to
host the Salina Hawks in a doubleheader at Larks Park on Wednesday.

The 16U Hammer went 0-3-1 and the 15U 1-3 at the same
tournament and didn't make it out of pool play.

Semifinals: Hays 3, Midwest Prospects 2 
The Hammer
scored two in the top of the third to build a 3-1 lead and held on the rest of
the way.

Bradyn Dreher gave Hays a 1-0 lead in the top of the first
with a double to left. After the Prospects tied the game with an unearned run
in the bottom of the inning, Dalton Dale gave them the lead for good with a
two-run double.

Garrett Wellbrock (4-1) allowed one earned run on three hits
with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings and picked up the win. Dalton
Dale recorded the first two outs in the seventh before walking two. He got a
pop up to second to end the game, leaving the tying run at third and the
potential winning run at second.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Jared Koenig pitched into the sixth inning for his first career win and combined with three relievers on a three-hitter, helping the Oakland Athletics beat the Kansas City Royals 4-0 on Sunday to end an eight-game home losing streak.

Koenig grew up about 75 miles south of Oakland and had several friends and family in attendance. That included his dad Greg, who got to watch his son on Father's Day.

“I’m happy he was able to be here,” Koenig said. “I’m sure he was nervous as can be, too. It’s awesome to have that support and to be able to do it today of all days.”

Seth Brown had three hits, including his first home run at the Oakland Coliseum in nearly a year. Sean Murphy also connected to help the A’s avoid a three-game sweep.

Oakland, which won for the third time in 18 games overall, still owns the worst record in baseball at 23-45.

The Royals stranded six runners in scoring position and were shut out for the ninth time this season.

Koenig (1-2) gave up two hits over 5.2 innings. The A’s left-hander walked four and had to pitched around traffic much of the afternoon to avoid becoming the fourth pitcher in Oakland history to lose his first three starts.

Not bad for a pitcher who spent 2017-19 in independent leagues. The 28-year-old was pitching in Australia when he caught the attention of an A’s scout last year and was signed to a minor league deal.

“His stuff today was exactly who he’s been described as,” manager Mark Kotsay said. “He didn’t strike anyone out but he got through 5.2 with a lot of contact and a good defense behind him. For him, his journey through independent ball, through Australia, through the minor leagues, it’s a great reward for him.”

Kansas City loaded the bases against Koenig with two outs in the sixth before Domingo Acevedo struck out Michael A. Taylor to end the inning.

Acevedo retired four batters. Zach Jackson and Sam Moll set down three each to close it out.

“It’s a great feeling to know that I’m able to be successful out here,” Koenig said. “Today was awesome.”

Brown crushed a 1-2 slider from Brady Singer onto the steps beyond the left field fence. It was Brown’s team-leading ninth home run and first in Oakland since Aug. 8, 2021.

Murphy’s three-run drive off Jose Cuas in the sixth came after Brown singled and Ramón Laureano was hit by a pitch from Singer.

Singer (3-2) allowed six hits and three runs with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

The Royals have not swept a series since winning three consecutive games against the Cubs at Wrigley Field from Aug. 20-22, 2021.

Royals: RHP Zack Greinke (right flexor strain) threw 70 pitches over seven innings during his second rehab start with Triple-A Omaha. Greinke had four strikeouts and allowed three runs and six hits. ... LHP Jake Brentz, out since April 29 because of a left elbow flexor strain, began a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Royals: LHP Kris Bubic (0-4, 8.36 ERA) faces the Angels in the opener of a three-game series in Los Angeles. Bubic lost to the Angels in June when he was tagged for six runs in four innings.

Iyen Enaruna is transferring from Evansville University and Jaheim Holden is transferring from Tarleton State University. Enaruna is a 6-foot, 9-inch forward that will have one year of eligibility remaining in 2022-23. He played at Cloud County (Kan.) Community College for two years before transferring to Evansville where he also played two seasons. He still has an extra year of eligibility left due to the COVID season of 2020-21 that granted players their year of eligibility back no matter how much they played that season. At Cloud County, Enaruna started all 31 games in his sophomore season of 2019-20 averaging 12.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, which earned him an All-KJCCC East Division Honorable Mention selection. He scored in double figures 20 times that season and reached double figures in rebounds 11 times. Enaruna produced nine double-doubles that season and scored 20 or more points in a game four times with a season high of 24. As a freshman in 2018-19, he averaged 6.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Over two years he accumulated 581 points and 440 rebounds for the T-Birds, averaging 9.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in 62 contests. While at Evansville, Enaruna averaged 3.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game over two seasons. He made six starts in his 43 games played for the Purple Aces. He produced his single-game highs in points and rebounds in a contest against Bradley University during the 2020-21 season, when he notched 17 points and seven rebounds. A native of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Enaruna is no stranger to international competition as he played for the Dutch national team alongside his brother Tristan, who has played at the University of Kansas and Iowa State University. Holden is a 5-foot, 10-inch guard that will have two years of eligibility remaining entering 2022-23. He played two seasons at Barton (Kan.) Community College before transferring to Tarleton State where he played in 2021-22. At Barton County, Holden was an All-KJCCC West Division First Team and All-Region 6 selection in 2020-21 averaging 16 points and 4.8 assists, and nearly two steals per game. In 2019-20, Holden averaged 15 points and 4.8 assists per game. Holden made 92 3-point field goals and shot 80.4 percent at the free-throw line (218-of-271) over his two years on the floor for the Cougars. 🏀 FHSU men’s basketball announces addition of two transfers

HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State men's soccer head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1021">Gerry Cleary</a>&nbsp;has announced the signing of seven student-athletes for the 2022 season. All seven will be freshmen for the Tigers in the fall.

Francisco Azzaro&nbsp;| Defender | Buenos Aires, Argentina Francisco Azzaro was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and grew up in Paraguay. Fran is versatile defender with the ability to play in multiple spots on the back line. Azzaro brings experience playing for several clubs, including Sol de America and Club Recoleta. He was recognized as athlete of the year in both 2018 and 2019 at his school and helped his program to an ASA tournament championship in 2018. His squad won a school-record eight tournament wins that year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Harrison Bensouda&nbsp;| Midfielder | Shawnee, Kansas Harrison Bensouda is an All-State midfielder from Mill Valley High School in Shawnee, Kan. He helped the Jaguars to a 15-1-1 record as a senior in the fall of 2021, earning honorable mention All-State honors from the coaches association and second team All-Sunflower League honors. A native of Seoul, South Korea, Shin led his squad in assists as a junior and has played alongside many Tanzanian and Polish national team players. HAYS – The Hays Larks offense exploded for double-digit runs
for a fifth straight game as they ran their win streak to five in-a-row Thursday
with a 13-2 run-rule victory over the Colorado Roughriders.

The Larks (9-2, 6-1 RMBL) scored single runs in the first
and second innings to build a 2-0 lead. 

Dylan Dreiling's RBI infield single gave Hays a 1-0 lead in
the first inning and Austen Jaslove’s RBI single in the second made is 2-0.

After Colorado got a run back in the fourth inning to make
it 2-1, the Larks offense came alive scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth
inning.

Hays recorded five straight singles and a hit-by-pitch to
open the inning.

Dreiling’s second RBI single made it 3-1. Jackson Halter drove
in two more with an RBI single and then Tanner Rice singled home two making it 8-2 Larks.

Hays’ bats got going again in a five-run seventh that was
capped off by a two-run homerun from Tyler LaRue sealing the 13-2 run-rule victory.

Five Larks recorded multiple hits led by the three for
Jackson Halter.

Halter was three-for-three with three runs scored and two
RBIs.

Coby Grimsly got the win, he allowed just one run on four hits
with one strikeout.

The Larks host the Roughriders in series finale Friday at
Larks Park.
