KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Noah Cameron pitched into the seventh, scattering six singles as the Kansas City Royals beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 to salvage the final game of the series on Wednesday night.

Cameron (2-1) allowed a run on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Maikel Garcia singled with one out in the fourth, extending his hitting streak to 13 games, then scored from first on Drew Waters’ deflected single.

In the fifth, John Rave doubled to right, collecting his first major league hit, and scored when Bobby Witt Jr. bounced a two-out double inside the first base bag for a 2-0 lead.

Witt added an insurance run with a seventh-inning sacrifice fly.

Carlos Estévez struck out two for a four-out save, his 15th.

Among his three singles, Spencer Steer delivered two-out RBI hits in the sixth and eighth.

Tyler Stephenson hit three singles while TJ Friedl hit two singles and has multiple hits in six straight games.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Kansas City Royals on Wednesday confirmed that an affiliated entity has purchased the mortgage for the Aspiria campus in Overland Park, but emphasized that no decision has been made on the site of a new stadium.

The team’s statement, issued after a Kansas City Business Journal report revealed the transaction, clarified that the mortgage acquisition was part of broader exploration efforts and does not signal a final site selection.

“We have not yet decided on a site, and any assertion to the contrary is inaccurate,” the statement read. “As part of our ongoing efforts, we have negotiated with or made investments in multiple potential sites – both in Missouri and in Kansas. One of these investments was the acquisition (by an affiliate of the Royals) of the mortgage on the Aspiria campus through an arms-length bidding process.”

The Aspiria property, formerly the Sprint campus, sits at 119th Street and Nall Avenue. The Business Journal reported the May 9 purchase price was approximately $164 million.

The Royals reiterated their commitment to identifying a “generational home” for the franchise, one that benefits fans, the team, partners and the regional community.

Last month, Aspiria officials announced plans to add 2,000 new jobs and projected a $6 billion economic impact over the next 10 years.

Golf Tournament at Turkey Creek in McPherson Wednesday. He finished with a 2-day total of

Hoxie’s
Noah Dowell wins the 2A title by 2 shots over Easton Fink of Oakley. After
firing a 4-under 68 in his first round Tuesday, Dowell shot a 2-over 72 in the final
round. Fink was the only golfer to shoot par Wednesday and had rounds of 72 and
70.

Sacred
Heart won their 10-th straight team title. They had a team total of 300 in the
final round and made up a 10-stroke gap with Syracuse on day one and won the
title by 17 strokes. Hoxie finished third and Hill City was sixth.

Deges and Case Haynes led the Ringnecks with 26th place finishes. Deges shot an

Greensboro, N.C. - The American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings have named Fort Hays State starting pitcher Ty Riley a first team All-Central Region performer, announced Wednesday (May 28) by the coaches association.

It is the third All-Region honor for the Tiger senior this season, joining his first team honor from the D2CCA and his second team recognition from the NCBWA. Riley was also named an honorable mention All-American earlier Wednesday by the D2CCA.

The Friday night starter turned in a stellar senior season, ranking third in Division II with a school-record 115 strikeouts. The righty posted an ERA of 3.11 and a record of 9-1 across 16 outings (15 starts). The MIAA co-Pitcher of the Year posted an opposing batting average of .188, second-best in the MIAA.

The Bentonville, Ark. native ranked 10th in Division II in hits allowed per nine innings (6.22), while his 11.17 strikeouts per nine innings ranked 22nd in the country and his nine wins were second-most in the MIAA.

Riley struck out 16 batters in a game against Colorado-Colorado Springs, second-most in a game by a DII pitcher this season. He racked up seven quality starts and tossed an MIAA-best four complete games, including one nine-inning shutout.

He is the first Tiger to earn All-Region status from the ABCA since 2014 (Clayton Garland).

Riley was one of seven MIAA athletes listed on the first team and one of 13 overall to be named All-Region.

⚾ Coaches name Riley first team All-Region

MARSHALL, Minn. - Fort Hays State baseball pitcher Ty Riley was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) honorable mention All-America list, announced Wednesday (May 28).

The first team All-Central Region starter turned in a stellar senior season, ranking third in Division II with a school-record 115 strikeouts. The righty posted an ERA of 3.11 and a record of 9-1 across 16 outings (15 starts). The MIAA co-Pitcher of the Year posted an opposing batting average of .188, second-best in the MIAA.

Riley is the first Tiger to earn All-America status since 2015 (Kevin Czarnecki) and is the first starting pitcher to earn the honor since 2006 (Bobby Lewton).

He was one of seven MIAA players listed on the All-America list this season.

The CCA All-America and All-Region baseball teams, which are selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) from schools playing Division II baseball, were first established in 2007. This is the ninth year in which the program is solely sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.

The righty posted an ERA of 3.11 and a record of 9-1 across 16 outings (15 starts). Winston-Salem Dash.

The
game featured a couple of Hays’ natives. Dylan Dreiling for the Spartanburgers and Carson Jacobs for the Dash.

Dreiling is a Hays High grad who starred at Tennessee. Jacobs is a TMP-Marian alum.

Jacobs struck out Dreiling in their only minor league encounter and pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts for his second win of the season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Elly De La Cruz hit two long home runs, Brady Singer pitched seven strong innings against his former team and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Kansas City Royals 7-2 on Tuesday night.

De La Cruz hit a 436-foot shot to center in the fourth inning that tied the score at 2 against Jonathan Bowlan, then a go-ahead&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Reds/status/1927530977221304392">451-foot drive into the right-center fountain in the sixth</a>&nbsp;off Taylor Clarke (1-1). De La Cruz has 11 home runs this season. He tied Pete Rose's team record for switch-hitters with five multihomer games, including two this year.

Singer (6-3), acquired from the Royals in November, allowed two runs and seven singles.

Tyler Stephenson homered in the second, but Kyle Isbel and Jonathan India had RBI single in the botton half.

TJ Friedl singled to lead off the eighth inning and scored from first on an infield squibber. Pitcher John Schreiber's rushed throw bounced into right field for an error. De La Cruz was walked intentionally before Schreiber walked Stephenson and Spencer Steer.

Singer retired 14 of his last 16 batters and matched his season high for innings.

Oakley was tied for 20th after Tuesday's first round. Teammate Cooper Johnson shot an 84 and just missed advancing.


Andover Central’s Colt Farrow, St. James Academy’s Jacob Fratzel and Bishop
Carroll’s Max Farber all had rounds of 4-under 67 and led after day one.

TMP-Marian’s
Heuer Brungardt and Chase Drennon both advanced to the second day at the 2A state tournament at the Turkey Creek&nbsp; Golf Course in McPherson.

Brungardt shot a 9-over-par 70 and was in tie for 14th place, Drennon was tied for
28th after a 13-over 83.


The Hoxie and Hill City teams both advanced. Hoxie sat in third place and Hill City in fifth.

Martinez (3-5) allowed three singles through six shutout innings and finished seven innings allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

Stephenson hit a two-run homer to left in the fifth inning, his second of the season, boosting the Reds' lead to 6-0. Stephenson had three of Cincinnati’s 14 hits.

Michael Lorenzen (3-6) allowed six runs on a career-high 11 hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings as the Royals lost for the third time in four games.

Cincinnati jumped ahead 1-0 in the first on TJ Friedl’s leadoff double and Austin Hays’ sacrifice fly. The Reds lead the majors with 46 first-inning runs and have outscored opponents 46-21 in the first.

Gavin Lux and Stephenson drove in runs with two of the Reds five singles in the third inning before Will Benson added a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead.

Salvador Perez hit a first-pitch, two-run homer in the seventh, snapping Martinez’s homerless streak at 42 2/3 innings. Nick Loftin added a sacrifice fly, cutting Kansas City's deficit to 6-3.

Vinnie Pasquantino had three hits and extended his hitting streak to 10 games, including four straight with multiple hits. Maikel Garcia extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

After playing shortstop for all but three innings this season, Elly De La Cruz was the designated hitter, with Garrett Hampson making his first start at short.

Making his major league debut, John Rave bunted for a hit, putting runners at the corners with no outs in the seventh. Cleveland challenged the safe call at first, which was overturned and Martinez retired the next two batters, escaping the inning.

Martinez needed just 67 pitches to shut out the Royals for six innings.

PUEBLO, Colo. – Pole vaulter Annabeth Baalmann and the 4x100 meter relay team of Hayden Albright, Toby Wahlmeier, Avrey Albright, and Drew Tolar gave the Tigers a 2-for-2 day in All-America honors as Fort Hays State track and field wrapped up the 2025 season on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Baalmann finished fourth and the relay team finished seventh to secure a spot on the podium and All-America trophies.

Baalmann made a clearance of 14 feet (4.27m) to finish fourth, her highest finish in an NCAA Championship event. She has twice finished on the podium now after an eighth-place finish during the 2024 indoor season. She is a three-time All-America performer overall after a 10th-place indoor finish earlier this year, which was good for All-America Second Team honors. It was the third time Baalmann cleared at least 14 feet in 2025, just shy of her school record marks of 14'0.5" both indoor and outdoor. She is the only woman to ever at FHSU to clear 14 feet in the pole vault.

Baalmann separated into the top four performers in the event on Saturday by clearing 14 feet on her third and final attempt at the height. She tied Kyla Davis of Pittsburg State for the third-highest clearance of the day, but Davis took third place by clearing 14 feet on her second attempt. Baalmann and Davis both fell short of making a 14'2" clearance, which would have been a potential personal best for Baalmann, but Isabelle Peters of Pittsburg State cleared 14'2" on her second attempt to secure second. Brynn King of Roberts Wesleyan, the top performer nationally in the event prior to the championships, proved her No. 1 ranking by clearing all the way up to 14'10" for the national title.

Nine teams competed in the final of the 4x100 meter relay on Saturday. The Tigers finished seventh in a time of 40.22 seconds. It was a very tight race among the top seven, all separated by less than a second. West Texas A&amp;M had the winning time of 39.43. FHSU was within .19 seconds of fourth place. It was the seventh time FHSU had a men's 4x100 meter relay team earn All-America status in its NCAA Division II history and first time since 2021. Walmeier, both Albrights, and Tolar broke the 2002 team's school record in the prelims on Thursday with a fifth-place finish to earn a spot in Saturday's final, taking the school record down to 39.71 seconds. That was the time ran by Minnesota State in the final on Saturday, which was good for a second-place finish.

Overall at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships, the Tigers had four All-America performances. Three were first-team performances, which included Nolan Churchman's fifth-place finish and school record in the decathlon on Friday. TOPEKA – Hays High’s Izabel Schmidt wrapped her illustrious high school career with a second-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle and placed third in the 100 yard freestyle at the 5-1A State Swimming and Diving Championships at the Capital Federal Natatorium. Schmidt was also a part of two relays the placed in the final day of the competition Saturday.

It's the second year in-a-row that Schmidt has finished runner-up in the 50 free to Hillsboro’s Lauryn Vogt who has won the event three-straight years and set a new state meet record Saturday with a time of 23:39. Schmidt finished at 24:17.

Schmidt finished third in the 100 free for a second-straight year. Vogt was the winner with a time of 50:28. Wichita Trinity Academy’s Alexa Howard finished second at 51:92 with Schmidt at 52:91.&nbsp;

Schmidt was fourth in both the 50 and 100 as a sophomore and was sixth in 100 as a freshman and seventh in the 50. She owns seven school records (50 free, 100 free, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 200 individual medley, 500 free, 100 breaststroke). Her breaststroke record (1:11.13) was just set at the Western Athletic Conference meet last week.

Schmidt along with Jaylen Hughes, Lucy Tippy and Breckyn Wahlmeier were a part of two state qualifying relays. The 200 yard freestyle team finished fifth with a time of 1:45.06. The 400 yard freestyle placed eighth with a time of 3:55.23, four seconds faster than their Friday preliminary time.

The Indians finished eighth in the team standings with 90 points. Andover won the title with 304 points outdistancing second place Blue Valley Southwest who tallied 276.5.

KSHSAA's new system as the top three in each event from every regional qualified along with the top four performances in each event from around the state.

Under the new system, Macara Rohr, who placed fourth in the girls triple jump at Thursday's Hill City 2A Regional has qualified along with Tessa Wentling who was fifth in the high jump. Avery Montgomery placed fifth in the 100 hurdles and the girls 4x100 relay, which finished fourth, has also qualified.

The state meet is next Friday and Saturday in Wichita.

Nolan Churchman broke his own school record in the decathlon by 139 points with a 10-event total of 7,360, finishing in fifth place to earn a spot on the All-American podium. After compiling a personal-best 4,035 points on day one, the senior wrapped up his career with three outdoor personal bests on Friday. He opened the day with a personal-best 15.19 in the 110m hurdles to collect 827 points before adding a personal best in the discus (128-9, 649 points) and an outdoor PR in the pole vault (15-1, 790 points). Churchman then accumulated 1,059 points across the final two events (javelin throw - 150-10 - 529 points, 1,500m run - 5:05.30 - 530 points).

The performance helped Churchman earn his eighth All-American trophy, including seven in multi-events (four heptathlon, three decathlon) and one in a relay. The Saint George, Kan. native posted outdoor or wind legal personal bests in five of the 10 events, including the 100m dash, high jump, 110m hurdles, discus and pole vault.

After breaking the school record in the discus throw earlier this season (160-2, 48.81m), Emma Slade placed 13th at the national meet with a top heave of 153-2. The freshman recorded that mark on her first attempt before adding a toss of 144-11 on her third attempt. She was one of only two freshman in the field of 22 competitors at the championship event.

Toby Wahlmeier concluded the day in the prelims of the 200m dash. Running in the third and final heat, the junior finished in 20th place with a time of 21.39.

The Tigers will wrap things up at the national meet with day three on Saturday (May 24) beginning at noon CT when Annabeth Baalmann competes in the women's pole vault. Wahlmeier will then team up with Hayden Albright, Avrey Albright and Drew Tolar in the 4x100m relay finals at 6:20 p.m. CT.
