Theodore Robert Ford, 78, of Leoti, died Saturday, May 15, 2021, at the 
Wichita County Health Center, in Leoti. He was born March 18, 1943, in 
Troy, NY, to Theodore Roosevelt and Bernadette (Tudor) Ford. 

Theodore 
proudly served in the United States Navy. While stationed on an aircraft
 carrier, Theodore fought in the Bay of Pigs and received 4 medals of 
honor for his service. After his time in the Navy, he became a computer 
technician and worked for General Electric and Honeywell. He owned his 
own computer company, SASEC, which he ran until he retired. Theodore was
 also a pilot and was instrument rated. These skills were used in the 20
 years he volunteered as a Flight for Life pilot. He also flew for 
traffic news. 
After spending most of his working life in Phoenix, AZ, Theodore retired
 to Leoti, KS. He was a member of the International Comanche Society, 
and board member for the Leoti V.F.W. and Leoti airport. 
Theodore was preceded in death by his parents and son Steven Michael Ford. 
He is survived by his children, Bobbie Blair, of Leoti, Tom Ford, of 
Leoti; granddaughter Brandi (Matt) Housman, of North Platte, NE; sister,
 Nancy Feldman, of Phoenix, AZ.

Helen M. Durr

On March 13, 1927, Barbara Katherine Schroeder was born to Charles F
 and Margaret M (Arendt) Schroeder at home, on their farm in rural 
Rawlins County, Kansas, near Atwood. Barbara was the fourth of their 
eleven children. She passed away May 15, 2021, at Prairie Senior Living 
Complex in Colby at the age of 94.
 From 1933 to 1941, Barbara attended Shawnee Country School in rural 
Rawlins County. She stayed home for a year after 8th grade to help her 
mother. She attended Leoville High School in Leoville, Kansas for her 
Freshman year, 1942 to 1943, where she boarded with a local family and 
helped around their house and with their children. From 1943 to 1945,&nbsp; she attended Atwood High School. In the fall of 1945, she attended 
Concordia Catholic School in Concordia, Kansas where she graduated in 
1946.
 Barbara married Lyle A Olberding on September 15, 1947, and moved to 
Colby, Kansas. He worked for the Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company 
which transferred him to Arapahoe, Nebraska in 1953. They lived in 
Arapahoe and raised their five children there until his death in 1966. 
Barbara was a homemaker, an excellent cook, enjoyed bowling, playing for
 the women’s softball team, getting together with friends. In Arapahoe 
she was an active member of St Germanus Catholic Church Altar Society. 
After her children started school, she worked nights as a nurse’s aide 
at the Arapahoe Rest Home. 
 After Lyle passed away, Barbara’s brother, Fulgence, offered his 
home to her and her children. In the summer of 1967, they moved to the 
farm where she was born. Wherever she lived, she planted a vegetable 
garden, a patch of strawberries, and would spend days canning. She 
drove a school bus for Atwood Public Schools and was the catcher for the
 Atwood Roadrunners softball team. 
 In 1973 Barbara, Lylea and Danial moved to the town of Atwood. She 
worked for the Atwood Medical Clinic and the Atwood Hospital. 
 Barbara married Patrick J (Joe) Mindrup on August 4, 1979, and moved 
to his farm near New Almelo, Kansas. She worked as the parish secretary
 for St Joseph’s Catholic Church and was an active member of St Joseph’s
 Altar Society. She loved playing cards, especially canasta and 
pinochle. She really loved square dancing. and Barbara and Joe were 
often asked to lead the wedding march at local wedding receptions. 
 Joe moved to Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby in 2006. 
Barbara remained on the farm near New Almelo until 2010 when she joined 
Joe in Colby. At PSLC she enjoyed bingo games, going on field trips, 
attended mass, and participated in the rosary. Most of all, she loved 
spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 Barbara was preceded in death by her husbands, Lyle Olberding and 
Joe Mindrup; son Paul Olberding; stepson John Mindrup, and grandson 
Zachary Meyer. 
 She is survived by her children, Carl Olberding and his wife 
Roxanne, (Grantsburg, WI), Rose Marie Fortina and her husband Chuck 
(Elkhorn, NE), Lylea Meyer and her husband John (Siren, WI), Danial 
Olberding (Largo, FL), and daughter-in-law Ginny Olberding (Litchfield, 
MN); stepchildren, Elizabeth Jansonius (née Mindrup and her husband 
Phil (Prairie View, KS), Margaret Houtz (née Mindrup) and her husband 
Brett (Ozawkie, KS), and Joseph Mindrup and his wife Meg (Hays, KS); 
sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. 
 The family would like to thank all the relatives and friends who 
visited Barbara over the years and included her in their holiday and 
family celebrations while she was living at the Prairie Senior Living 
Complex. They would also like to thank everyone at Prairie Senior Living
 Complex for their wonderful care of Barbara and for always treating her
 with kindness, compassion and respect.

Barbara Mindrup

Edmund Lee Herl, 84 passed away on May 18th, 2021, at Hays Medical Center following a prolonged illness.
 Lee was born February 24, 1937, in his grandmother’s home near Angelus, KS to Jack and Anna (Dickman) Herl.
 He grew up near Leoville, KS and was the second of five children, 
which included brothers Jim Herl (deceased) Patrick Herl, Bill Herl, and
 sister Mary Lou Schlick.
 Lee graduated from Leoville Rural High School in 1955. Following 
graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and reached a 
rank of Specialist 4th Class. Lee was a tank driver with the 41st 
Armored Division of the 8th Infantry and was exceptionally proud of his 
military service. Throughout the years, he kept in regular contact with
 those he served with and enjoyed their reunions in Branson, MO. 
Following his military service, Lee spent the majority of his life as a 
farmer / rancher near Hoxie, KS and loved nothing more than being 
outside, tending the land and cattle. Lee was especially fond of the 
polka dances that he attended with his friends. Where ever there was a 
Polka Dance, you could find Lee kicking up his heels.
 Lee was married to Caroleta Rebarchek and four sons came from this 
union. He is survived by these four sons, their wives, and fourteen 
grandchildren: Dennis &amp; Brenda (Dean and Drue) of Colby, KS; David 
&amp; Helen (Dexter, Derek, Kimberly, Darius, and Chase) of Grainfield, 
KS; Dale &amp; Rebecca (Jordyn, Dawson, Dayne, and Jayden) of 
Independence, MO; and Darrin &amp; Korey (Draden, Jaylen, and Jenna) of 
Hoxie, KS.
 He is proceeded in death by his parents Jack &amp; Anna Herl, brother Jim Herl, and daughter-in-law Melissa (Ochs) Herl.
 Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 
Park, Kansas on Friday, May 21, 2021, 3:00 P.M. He will be laid to 
rest in the Grainfield Cemetery immediately following the service.

Harold Eugene Bates

Lawrence "Larry" Jacob Gassmann was born on February 11, 1954, in Colby, 
Kansas, to Conrad and Magdalen (Weber) Gassmann. He passed away at the 
age of 67 on May 12, 2021, in Overland Park, Kansas. 
 Larry grew up on a farm one mile west of Dresden, Kansas and 
attended Leoville Grade School. From a small child on up, he was 
accustomed to hard work helping on the farm, milking cows, raising 
chickens, plowing fields, and assisting with the wheat harvest. As he 
reached his early teens, he always raised a prized garden. In May 1968,
 Larry graduated from Leoville Grade School and the following fall, 
began attending Leoville High School as a freshman. He loved playing 
sports, with basketball and softball being his favorite. Leoville High 
School was unified with Hoxie High School the following year. Larry 
attended Hoxie High the following three years and graduated as a senior 
on May 22, 1972. As a high school student, Larry was involved in 
numerous activities, including Future Farmers of America (FFA), 
shop/woodworking and attended football and basketball games. In August 
1972, he began attending Goodland Area Vocational Technical Trade 
School, with a two-year program in electricity and electronics. He 
supplemented his tuition by doing yardwork and landscaping for local 
residents, including the Catholic church. Larry had a chance to 
reconnect with Fr. Merlin Kieffer from Seven Dolars while he was in Via 
Cristi. Fr. Merlin was the priest in Goodland that Larry did the yard 
work for back in the early '70s, how ironic. In addition to that, he 
also worked nights as a stocker at Larry’s IGA and eventually moved into
 the produce department. Following graduation, Larry began working as a
 specialist at Ulysses Irrigation in Goodland and continued his 
part-time duties at Larry’s IGA. After 13 years, Ulysses Irrigation 
went out of business and Larry headed east to become a resident of 
Manhattan, Kansas in 1987. 
 That year, Larry was hired by Food-4-Less grocery store in Manhattan
 to work in the produce department, moving up later to become the 
store’s produce manager. He left Food-4-Less in 1993. He then went on to
 work as a contractor for Equinox International and Swepco Petroleum out
 of Fort Worth. In August of 1993 he was hired by the Riley County 
Public Works as an Operator 2. During his 28-year career with Riley 
County, he worked on the road and bridge repair crew, traffic control, 
snow removal and sign division. Larry was a loyal employee and highly 
devoted to Riley County during his tenure. He was set to retire on May 
31, 2021. 
 A strong work ethic was instilled in Larry that was evident his 
entire life, but he also enjoyed other activities besides work. He was 
meticulous and organized, an avid recycler and had an interest in the 
Oregon Trail. He also was a big fan of Kansas State football and the 
Dallas Cowboys. When he purchased his house in 2009, he took great pride
 in his yard. By using the knowledge, he gained from his work with Riley
 County, he constantly looked for ways to improve it each year. It was 
an annual challenge for Larry to find the best grass seed possible. The 
farm never left Larry, as he loved working outdoors. The love of his 
yard was evident in the beautiful lilacs and bushes that filled his 
yard. He was very innovative and always had creative ideas. He had 
started building a man cave/tornado shelter in his back yard that would 
attach to his house which he planned on finishing once he retired. Also,
 upon retirement he planned to build a nut and bolt sorter he had 
designed on paper and wanted to renew his woodworking skills by building
 picnic tables and Adirondack chairs to sell. Other retirement plans 
included more work on his yard, remodeling his home, traveling with his 
sisters to Europe and making many trips to Dallas to spend time with his
 nephew, Connor.
 He was a great asset to the KMKF radio station softball team in the 
late 80s and was instrumental in helping the team win the city 
championship in 1989. He had a great passion for classic cars and owned
 several of them, including two Chevy Monte Carlos. However, his prized
 possession was his 1972 green Ford Mustang Mach I. He also loved 
riding his Kawasaki motorcycle and often took rides around town. On 
weekend afternoons, it was not unusual to see Larry hand polishing his 
vehicles in his driveway. Even as a small child, Larry’s biggest love 
was for his kitties and he built a special burial place on the farm for 
all the farm cats. Later in life, Larry continued his love for animals 
and provided loving homes to numerous felines in Goodland as well as his
 Manhattan kitty family over the years which included Zachary 1, Zachery
 2, Zachery 3, Pause, Bevo and Worthless as well as his current kitty 
family Ronald, Puma and Tiger. 
 Larry enjoyed eating and cooking. His Black Forest cherry cake was 
his specialty and was a big hit with his friends and family. Other 
favorite foods included blackberry dumplings, beans and noodles, popcorn
 and popcorn balls, sunflower seeds, dill pickles and chicken and 
noodles. Larry always had a love of music, movies, and television. 
Favorite TV shows included Star Trek, Get Smart, Batman, Bonanza, 
Dallas, Jericho, Two and a Half Men, Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, 
24, Blacklist, American Idol, Survivor and Big Brother. Larry’s 
favorite music genre was classic rock from the '60s and '70s. He loved 
the Grass Roots, the Raspberries, Three Dog Night, Neil Diamond and The 
Monkees. His favorite song in his youth was "Little Arrows" by Leepy Lee.
 His love of music continued later in life and he enjoyed a wide variety
 of contemporary music throughout the years. 
 Larry is survived by his siblings: Francis Gassmann and wife Cindy 
of Garden Plain, KS, Anthony Gassmann and wife Peggy of Dresden, KS, 
George Gassmann and wife Vickie of New Almelo, KS, Mary Gassmann of 
Indianapolis, IN, Ann Gassmann of Euless, TX, Theresa Gassmann of 
Euless, TX, sister-in-law Debbie Gassmann of Leavenworth, KS, 18 nieces
 and nephews, 54 great nieces and nephews, 7 step-nieces and nephews, 8 
great-great nieces and nephews, 7 step great-great nieces and nephews, 
his three kitties, Ronald, Puma and Tiger, as well as numerous beloved 
friends.
 He was preceded in death by his father, Conrad in 1975, mother, 
Magdalen in 2020, sister, Donna in 1967 and brothers Ralph and Paul in 
2013. 
 Larry was a kind and gentle soul to everyone he met and was 
treasured by everyone. He will be incredibly missed by his family and 
friends.
 Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Friday, May 21, 2021,&nbsp; at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Leoville, Kansas. Burial will 
follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Leoville. Visitation will be 
from 3-7:00 pm Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Pauls Funeral Home, Selden. A 
Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm following the visitation at the funeral 
home.

 </figure>Lawrence "Larry" Jacob Gassmann was born on February 11, 1954, in Colby, 
Kansas, to Conrad and Magdalen (Weber) Gassmann. He passed away at the 
age of 67 on May 12, 2021, in Overland Park, Kansas. 
 Larry grew up on a farm one mile west of Dresden, Kansas and 
attended Leoville Grade School. From a small child on up, he was 
accustomed to hard work helping on the farm, milking cows, raising 
chickens, plowing fields, and assisting with the wheat harvest. As he 
reached his early teens, he always raised a prized garden. In May 1968,
 Larry graduated from Leoville Grade School and the following fall, 
began attending Leoville High School as a freshman. He loved playing 
sports, with basketball and softball being his favorite. Leoville High 
School was unified with Hoxie High School the following year. Larry 
attended Hoxie High the following three years and graduated as a senior 
on May 22, 1972. As a high school student, Larry was involved in 
numerous activities, including Future Farmers of America (FFA), 
shop/woodworking and attended football and basketball games. In August 
1972, he began attending Goodland Area Vocational Technical Trade 
School, with a two-year program in electricity and electronics. He 
supplemented his tuition by doing yardwork and landscaping for local 
residents, including the Catholic church. Larry had a chance to 
reconnect with Fr. Merlin Kieffer from Seven Dolars while he was in Via 
Cristi. Fr. Merlin was the priest in Goodland that Larry did the yard 
work for back in the early '70s, how ironic. In addition to that, he 
also worked nights as a stocker at Larry’s IGA and eventually moved into
 the produce department. Following graduation, Larry began working as a
 specialist at Ulysses Irrigation in Goodland and continued his 
part-time duties at Larry’s IGA. After 13 years, Ulysses Irrigation 
went out of business and Larry headed east to become a resident of 
Manhattan, Kansas in 1987. 
 That year, Larry was hired by Food-4-Less grocery store in Manhattan
 to work in the produce department, moving up later to become the 
store’s produce manager. He left Food-4-Less in 1993. He then went on to
 work as a contractor for Equinox International and Swepco Petroleum out
 of Fort Worth. In August of 1993 he was hired by the Riley County 
Public Works as an Operator 2. During his 28-year career with Riley 
County, he worked on the road and bridge repair crew, traffic control, 
snow removal and sign division. Larry was a loyal employee and highly 
devoted to Riley County during his tenure. He was set to retire on May 
31, 2021. 
 A strong work ethic was instilled in Larry that was evident his 
entire life, but he also enjoyed other activities besides work. He was 
meticulous and organized, an avid recycler and had an interest in the 
Oregon Trail. He also was a big fan of Kansas State football and the

After moving to Houston TX, Dennis was employed by Wilson Industry.&nbsp; The past 30 years the Leiker family has lived in Bainbridge Island and Suquamish, WA. Allan Chase Smith, 74, passed away May 16, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital- Wichita, KS.

He was born July 31, 1946, in Phillipsburg, KS. the son of Virgil T. 
Smith and Twila Luster Smith; and step son of Lucille “Skippy” (Spacil) 
Smith. &nbsp;A Larned area resident since 1973, moving from Manhattan, KS, he
 was a Corrections Counselor at Larned Correctional Mental Health 
Facility.

Allan attended the Larned United Methodist Church. He was a member of
 the Santa Fe Trail Auto Club, and a past member of the Optimist Club, 
Kiwanis Club, Larned Area Chamber of Commerce board and USD #495 School 
Board, serving as President for both the chamber and school board.&nbsp; He 
was a Kansas State NSRA Safety Rep and member; and a Hunter Safety and 
Tractor Safety course instructor. He enjoyed Running, Bicycling, Karate,
 Motorcycles, Skiing, Bowling, Hot Rods and Card club.

On December 12, 1982, he married Patricia Ann (Yeager) Burris in Larned. She survives.

Other survivors Include: one daughter, Kristin (Joel) Keith, Larned; 
three sons, Joshua Smith, Great Bend, Chris (Heather) Burris, Larned, 
Jeff (Tiffany) Burris, Larned; eleven grandchildren, Joelle Keith, Brady

Diana Jean Gallegos, 79, of Galatia, Kansas, passed away peacefully at
 her home on May 16, 2021. She was born April 28, 1942, in La Crosse, 
Kansas, to Alex Joseph and Leona (VonFeldt) Engel.

She married the love of her life, Raymond Gallegos, on December 31, 
1994, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas. She attended La 
Crosse High School and studied cosmetology in Denver, Colorado.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas and 
was a volunteer at St. Anne’s Thrift Shop in Marianna, Florida.

She was a manager of many restaurants and clubs throughout the years 
and was the owner of Backroads Bar &amp; Grill in Galatia, along with 
her husband, for many years.

Survivors include: her husband, Raymond, of the home; one daughter, 
Saska (Greg) Pfannenstiel of Hays; one son, Joe (Helen) Lewis of Salina;
 5 grandchildren, Jesse (Audrey) Lewis, Danielle Pfannenstiel, and 
Dalton, Joey and Wyatt Lewis; and 5 great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Braden, 
Keaton and Addilyn Lewis and Atlas Lewis; a sister-in-law, Donna Engel 
Schmidtberger; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father Cyrene 
Kreutzer; a son, Michael Lewis; three brothers, Hal Michael Engel, 
Merrill Engel and Duane Engel; and a sister-in-law, Mary Engel.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Janousek 
Funeral Home and Friday, May 21 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at St.

Diana Jean Gallegos

Vernon Dean Chard passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Hays 
Medical Center at the age of 87. Vernon was born to Kimber and Eldred 
(McDonald) Chard on January 10, 1934, in Russell County, Kansas. He was 
united in marriage to Gloria (Stalnaker) Chard on June 15, 1953, in 
Stockton, Kansas. The couple was blessed with six children: Larry, Gary,
 Randy, Dave, Rodney, and Jan.
 Vernon grew up in Russell County where he attended Lucas schools and
 graduated with the class of 1949. Following graduation, he moved to 
Rooks County where he began his farming career and worked for the county
 for a short while. After working for the county, he went to work in the
 oil fields for 20 years and continued farming until his health 
declined. He had a passion for tending to the land, loved his tractors, 
and enjoyed his family helping with the farm. In his earlier years he 
loved competing at rodeos riding bareback broncs and the occasional 
fights with his brother. Vernon was altogether a kind and loving 
Christian man that was no stranger to hard work. He was a member of the 
Baptist Church in Plainville.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Kimber and Eldred Chard; 
son, Larry (Nancy) Chard; siblings, Keith Chard, Joyce Kressly, and Rita
 Munson; son-in-law, Tyler Ward; and a grandchild, Debra Chard.
 Left to cherish Vernon’s memory is his wife, Gloria Chard of Hays;

 </figure>Vernon Dean Chard passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Hays 
Medical Center at the age of 87. Vernon was born to Kimber and Eldred 
(McDonald) Chard on January 10, 1934, in Russell County, Kansas. He was 
united in marriage to Gloria (Stalnaker) Chard on June 15, 1953, in 
Stockton, Kansas. The couple was blessed with six children: Larry, Gary,
 Randy, Dave, Rodney, and Jan.
 Vernon grew up in Russell County where he attended Lucas schools and
 graduated with the class of 1949. Following graduation, he moved to 
Rooks County where he began his farming career and worked for the county
 for a short while. After working for the county, he went to work in the
 oil fields for 20 years and continued farming until his health 
declined. He had a passion for tending to the land, loved his tractors, 
and enjoyed his family helping with the farm. In his earlier years he 
loved competing at rodeos riding bareback broncs and the occasional 
fights with his brother. Vernon was altogether a kind and loving 
Christian man that was no stranger to hard work. He was a member of the 
Baptist Church in Plainville.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Kimber and Eldred Chard; 
son, Larry (Nancy) Chard; siblings, Keith Chard, Joyce Kressly, and Rita
 Munson; son-in-law, Tyler Ward; and a grandchild, Debra Chard.
 Left to cherish Vernon’s memory is his wife, Gloria Chard of Hays; 
children, Gary (Sandra) Chard of Zurich, KS, Randy (Lynnie) Chard of 
Palco, KS, Dave (Sally) Chard of Wichita, KS, Rodney (Carrie) Chard of 
Plainville, and Jan Ward of Lenexa, KS; sister, Nita (Merrill) Johnston 
of Stockton; fourteen grandchildren, Cynthia Finnesy, Jeremy Chard, 
Chanelle Chard, Billie Covington, Shawna Scates, Andrea McDonald, Angela

Vernon Dean Chard

Margaret June Cornwell, 94, passed away May 16, 2021, at Kenwood 
Plaza, St. John, KS.&nbsp; She was born on June 17, 1926, in Osborne County,&nbsp; Kansas, to Loren and Areta (Dibble)&nbsp; Breckenridge.&nbsp;

June graduated from Woodston High School and Fort Hays College.&nbsp; She 
then moved to St. John to teach Home Economics where she met Jack 
Cornwell.&nbsp; On June 6, 1948, they were married at her parents’ home in 
Rooks County Kansas.&nbsp; To this union were born three children, Rick, 
Martha and Joe.

June was involved with Jack in the operations of Cornwell Farms.&nbsp; She
 was a 4-H leader for years teaching many 4-Hers how to bake and was 
known for her excellent cooking skills including her harvest meals and 
bread baking.&nbsp; She was also known for her needlework having made 
elaborate Christmas stockings for grandchildren and great-grandchildren 
which were treasured, and beautiful crewel and cross-stich pieces. June 
was a member of the First United Methodist Church, St. John; Chapter AC 
PEO, Hesperian and a founding member of the Progressive Mothers’ Club.

June is survived by her children Rick Cornwell, &nbsp;Martha (Dan) Riddell
 and Joe (Lisa) Cornwell; grandchildren Jeff (Sarah) Cornwell, Casey 
(Charley) Forsyth, Bethany (Scott) Krehbiel, Rob (Chaney) Riddell, Mark 
Riddell, Melissa (Jake) Cline, Cami (Burke) Long, Ty (Vanessa) Cornwell,
 and Marci (Austin) Klug;&nbsp; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister Patsy 
Noble, four nieces and one nephew.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her 
husband Jack, her parents, her daughter in law Gayle Cornwell, her 
brother Eugene Breckenridge and two nephews.&nbsp;

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 18, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Minnis

Glenda J. Arment, 91, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS. 
 Glenda was born February 27, 1930, in Reemsville, KS, the daughter of 
Roy and Edna (Jones) Mankhey. &nbsp; On May 16, 1947, she married Gene M. 
Arment in Smith Center, KS, they were blessed with four children, Gerry,
 Gwenda, Galen and Gisele.&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by 
her parents, husband Gene, a sister, Melinda Moore and three brothers, 
Carol, Kenneth and Jerome Mankhey. Glenda is survived by two 
sons, Gerry (Cheryl)&nbsp;Arment&nbsp;of Keller, TX, Galen (Teresa)&nbsp;Arment&nbsp;of 
Athol; two daughters, Gwenda (Doug) Devlin of Lebanon, Gisele (Robert) 
Reiss of Salina; a sister, Joan Reed of Smith Center; seven 
grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral 
services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 21, 2021 at the First

Glenda J. Arment

Harold "Chuck" Charles Kohfeld beloved husband, father, grandfather and 
great-grandfather passed away on May 1, 2021, in his home at Oro Valley,
 Arizona from natural causes at the age of 91. Chuck was born on 
February 5, 1930, in Norton, Kansas, to Harold Cornelius Kohfeld and 
Alice Kohfeld. He spent his childhood in Colby, KS and moved to Norton 
when he was 12 years old. He graduated from NCHS with the class of ‘48. 
 After high school, he attended the University of Kansas for 2 years 
before enlisting into the United States Navy during the Korean war. When
 the war ended he was able to return and finish his studies at KU. 
 In 1955, Chuck returned to his hometown of Norton, KS to work at the
 First National Bank, which later became First Security Bank, with his 
grandfather and father. The bank started in 1887. The Kohfeld family 
became involved in the bank around 1900 with the Smiley family and 
enjoyed a long, positive and productive relationship. Chuck continued to
 work at the bank with his family, including his son Karl Kohfeld, his 
son-in-law Joe Herman, his nephew Kurt Kohfeld and later his grandsons 
Aaron Herman and Charlie Kohfeld. Many of his kids and grandkids also 
worked there during their summer and winter breaks. Chuck stayed very 
active and involved with the bank until it sold in 2014. 
 Chuck was an avid tennis player, playing tennis almost daily until 
his mid-eighties. He enjoyed boating and gardening. He was very active 
in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and loved getting to 
know his seven great-grandchildren. 
 He was proceeded in death by his brother Kenny Kohfeld (March 11, 
1968) and Kenny’s widow Mary Ann Kohfeld (April 29, 2021). He was 
survived by his wife Beverly Somers Kohfeld, his son Karl Somers Kohfeld
 (Shelly Smith), his daughters Claire Herman (Joe Herman) and Kris 
Kohfeld Stauder. His grandchildren Aaron Herman (Chelle Herman), Hanna 
Kohfeld (Jarrod Ward), Charlie Kohfeld (Jennifer Kohfeld), Jordan Herman
 (Katie Avery), Preston Herman, Marcus Herman, Maddy Stauder and Sam 
Stauder. His great-grandchildren Alexis and Wesley Kohfeld, Peyton, 
Wyatt, Thomas, and Henry Herman, and Esme Ward. 
 The Norton Public Library was very important to Chuck, as he was 
instrumental in getting it built. Memorial donations may be made to the 
Norton Library Foundation at, 1 Washington Square, Norton, KS 67654.

Harold 'Chuck' Charles Kohfeld 

James William Kaba passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at the Rooks 
County Health Center in Plainville, KS at the age of 85. He was born to 
James and Marie (Boller) Kaba on April 14, 1936, in Plainville.
 James was a lifetime resident of Plainville. He attended Plainville 
Grade School and graduated from Plainville High School. He entered the 
United States Army following his graduation and returned home when he 
was honorably discharged. James was united in marriage to Janice 
(Jacobs) Kaba on October 1, 1960, in Antonino, KS. The couple was blessed
 with three children: Vicki, Kim and John. 
 James worked in the oil field as a pumper until his early retirement
 at the age of 55. He picked up a part-time job at his favorite morning 
coffee place, Crawford Supply, and worked there for about 10 years. He 
was a simple man that enjoyed his routine. James was conservative and 
frugal when it came to himself, but generous to others. Every now and 
then he would play a nickel or penny slot at a casino, but his favorite 
thing to do was fish and spend time around the ones he loved. He was 
always so eager to pull out his slide projector and proudly show his 
military photos, family photos, and tell stories or re-live memories. 
James enjoyed passing time at home watching the Royals play or checking 
the stock markets. He took every day as it came, appreciated everyone in
 his life, and was thankful for every moment he had - and it was evident
 to those who knew him. He was a faithful servant to the Lord, attended 
masses regularly, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
 James will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his memory 
will live on in our hearts and minds. Through his life he taught us how 
to live our dreams, through his example he taught us how to enjoy the 
fruits of our labor, but above all, through his love he taught us how to
 serve God and one another with undying devotion. 
 He is survived by his children, Vicki (Ken) Becker of Plainville, 
Kim (Bill) Glazner of McPherson, and John (Kelly) Kaba of Hays; 
brothers, Mike (Lisa) Kaba of Boulder City, NV, and Mark (Jeanie) Kaba

 friend, Phil Barber of Plainville; eight grandchildren, Kurtis (Tara) 
of Piedmont, OK, Jessica (Matt) Korte of Evergreen, CO, Rhiannon (Nick)

James William Kaba

Fay Louise (Harper) Wolf, age 85, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in Quinter, Kansas. She was born October 8, 1935, to Oscar and Nellie (Hinchee) Harper in Roanoke, Virginia.&nbsp;

Fay graduated from Fincastle High School.&nbsp; On December 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to John Wolf in Roanoke, Virginia until his death on January 13, 1972. Fay graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1974, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in special education. She dedicated her life to those people who had special needs and took great care and demonstrated a rare gift for providing education to those with the most severe challenges. Fay’s first teaching position was at Kansas Neurological Institute where she taught on the Deaf and Blind unit. She then moved to Virginia where she developed an innovative program to teach students with severe intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities in Roanoke City Schools. After many years of service, she returned to Western Kansas where she continued teaching students with multiple disabilities.&nbsp;

Fay greatly enjoyed animals, poetry, literature, and scripture. She effortlessly memorized and recited long passages to her children, grandchildren, and students. Fay had a deep Christian faith and love for God that she passed on to her children.&nbsp;

Fay is survived by her children Titus and wife Sandra Wolf of Midlothian, Virginia, Dr. Amos Wolf and wife Dr. Sherry Whatley of Pflugerville, Texas, Esther and husband Thomas Thielen of Quinter, Kansas, Michael and wife Sherry Wolf of Pottsboro, Texas, Tye Wolf of Pottsboro, Texas and Adrian Wolf of&nbsp; Kansas; grandchildren John Wolf, Father Luke Thielen, Dr. Lance and wife Mary Thielen, Shawn Wolf, Aaron Wolf, Collin Thielen, Caleb Wolf, and Ethan Wolf; and great-grandchildren Dominic and Andrew Thielen.

Preceding Fay in death are her parents Oscar and Nellie Harper; her loving husband John Wolf; son David Wolf; great-granddaughter Bernadette Rose Thielen; and brothers William and Ray Harper.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, Kansas.

 </figure>Fay Louise (Harper) Wolf, age 85, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in Quinter, Kansas. She was born October 8, 1935, to Oscar and Nellie (Hinchee) Harper in Roanoke, Virginia.&nbsp;Fay graduated from Fincastle High School.&nbsp; On December 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to John Wolf in Roanoke, Virginia until his death on January 13, 1972. Fay graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1974, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in special education. She dedicated her life to those people who had special needs and took great care and demonstrated a rare gift for providing education to those with the most severe challenges. Fay’s first teaching position was at Kansas Neurological Institute where she taught on the Deaf and Blind unit. She then moved to Virginia where she developed an innovative program to teach students with severe intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities in Roanoke City Schools. After many years of service, she returned to Western Kansas where she continued teaching students with multiple disabilities.&nbsp;Fay greatly enjoyed animals, poetry, literature, and scripture. She effortlessly memorized and recited long passages to her children, grandchildren, and students. Fay Louise (Harper) Wolf

Edwin Lee Hull, age 91, of&nbsp;Hill City, Kansas, passed away on&nbsp;May 17, 
2021, under the kind care of Hospice and The Dawson Place. He was born 
in Hill City on February 3, 1930, in time to endure the Great 
Depression, a devastating drought, and the dust bowl that swept across 
the Plains. The endurance he developed during these hard times likely 
served to hone his spirit and will to survive long after medically 
predicted.

Edwin was united in marriage to Donna Lee Sester originally from 
Wamego, Kansas, on&nbsp;August 13,1949, after a three-week courtship that 
started at the original Buck’s Grill in Hill City. They were married for
 70 years when she passed in 2019. In addition to working on the family 
farm for many years, Edwin was employed as a truck driver, a roughneck, 
and for thirty years as a heavy equipment operator for Graham County, a 
job he enjoyed, which afforded him with years of stories to regale 
others with about his adventures. After he retired, Edwin drove a school
 bus for nearly a decade and delivered Meals on Wheels for the local 
senior center for twenty-two years. He enjoyed country music, traveling,
 square dancing, his dogs, and his coffee buddies at Cameron’s Corner.

Edwin is survived by his favorite (and only) daughter, Diane Hull, 
and her spouse, David Backstrom of Deerfield, New Hampshire; his younger
 brother, Russell, and his wife, Joan Hull, of Hill City, and his nieces
 Natalie Reynolds and Linda Hull-Viera, in addition to many cousins and 
fine friends, who enriched his life and kept a smile on his face.

Private family services will be at a later date.

Edwin Lee Hull

Marilyn L. (Moore) Loss, 79, passed away peacefully at home, May 17, 
2021, after a four year vigorous battle with cancer. She was born 
February 14, 1942, in Milford, Utah, to James E. &amp; Mary L. (Fegette)
 Moore, the oldest of three daughters.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Loss on January 22, 
1966, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they were married for 55 years, 
raised two sons and enjoyed the partnership they created.

Marilyn graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and continued her 
education to receive a Medical Technologist degree. Working in that 
occupation for forty years plus motherhood, she retired in 2006. She was
 a member of First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kan., active 
in UMWS and the Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Survivors include, her husband Bob Loss of the home; two sons, Robert
 Loss (Jamme) of Pittsburg and Jason Loss of Great Bend; a sister, Joyce
 Baptist of Lomita, Calif.; triplet granddaughters, Ashlyn, Calistia and
 Norah of Lenexa; and a niece, Jessica Baptist of San Pedro, Calif. She 
was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Linda.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 21, 2021, at Bryant 
Funeral Home with Reverend Morita Truman presiding. In lieu of flowers 
as Marilyn requested no flowers, memorials have been designated to First
 United Methodist Church, Barton County Relay for Life or Kinder 
Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Oloth Kaysonepheth passed away peacefully on May 13, 2021 after a 
long battle with cancer.&nbsp; He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40
 years, Connie (Chaysanga Sananikone), and three daughters; Le 
Kaysonepheth of Phoenix, AZ, Kelly Kaysonepheth Hultz (Tony) of Phoenix,
 AZ, and Debby Kimbrel (Darrick) of Hays, KS; two grandchildren, Lucy 
and Max Hultz; sister Khamboth Vongprathoum of Amarillo, TX; and his 
dog, Lucky Jr. He was a brother and an uncle to many in the Lao 
community.

Oloth was a funny, charismatic and devoted family man. His life began
 in Vientiane Province, Laos where he was born on February 1, 1951. He 
was the youngest son of eight children. He immigrated to the United 
States in the early 1980s and married Connie in 1983 and moved to Dodge 
City shortly after. After retiring from Cargill after nearly 30 years, 
Oloth spent his days at his favorite fishing spots around the area and 
often came home with the maximum allowable catfish, trout, walleye or 
bass, depending on the season. His fishing secrets will never be known. 
As the anchor of the family, he will be dearly missed. The family is 
thankful for the kindness and compassion from those that helped in so 
many ways over the years.

A memorial service in the Buddhist tradition will be held on May 22, 
2021 at 1:30 p.m. at Ziegler Funeral Chapel in Dodge City followed by 
cremation. Viewings will be held on May 20 and May 21 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Christopher Michael Luciano, 48, passed away on May 5, 2021 at the 
Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on January 14, 
1973 in Arvada, Colorado the son of James and Linda (Reed) Cisneros.

He was a bus driver for the city of Denver, Co and Minneapolis, MN. 
Christopher also worked as a corrections officer at the Larned State 
Prison in Larned, Kansas and he owned and operated a torque converter 
manufacturing business.

Christopher is survived by four sons, Conner and Christopher Luciano 
of Ness City, and Cody and Dominick Luciano of Cottage Grove, MN and one
 daughter, Autumn Luciano of Ness City.

Funeral service will be on Thursday, May 20, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at 
Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas. Burial in the Ness City 
Cemetery, Ness City, Kansas.

Barbara Katherine Mindrup

Marilyn (Post) Ross, 74, of Phillipsburg, KS passed away 
peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Saturday, May 15th, 
2021, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg.

Marilyn was born on May 20, 1946, in Logan, KS to Alpha (Ray) Post and
 Earl Post. She was one of 10 children her being the 5th child.

Marilyn married to the love of her life, Eugene Ross on March 22, 
1964. To this union two children were born: Shannon and Mitch. While the
 kids were growing up Marilyn was a stay at home mom who devoted herself
 to caring for her family. Later she worked for the Phillipsburg school 
district in the lunchroom for many years. After retirement Marilyn and 
Eugene enjoyed traveling in their 5th wheel to Arizona, gambling in 
Vegas and going to their grandchildren’s many activities. She enjoyed a 
special trip to Jamaica to her granddaughters wedding and a 
mother-daughter trip to New York City.

Marilyn always enjoyed her weekly morning coffee get togethers with 
her many friends including her best friend of 69 years, Carol Ward.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Frank Post and Roland Post and her sister Ann Elizabeth Lowry.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Eugene Ross of the home; 
her children Shannon Hahn and husband Stefan of Overland Park, KS and 
Mitch Ross and wife Cindy of rural Stockton, KS; &nbsp;grandchildren David 
Ross, Jessy Maddy, Cole Hahn and Ross Hahn; great grandchildren Isaiah 
Ross, Wyatt and Josie Maddy; brothers Tom Post of Pratt, KS, David Post 
of Elbert, CO, and Norman Post of Hill City, KS; and sisters Mary Breese
 of Logan, KS, Lola Campbell of Dickens, TX, and &nbsp;Barbra Holm of Ness 
City, KS.
