Thomas Patrick 'Tom' Brown

Icyl Irene Wood, 99, died January 13, 2022, at Presbyterian Manor of 
the Plains, Dodge City. She was born on January 6, 1923, at Ness County, 
the daughter of Ira E. and Laura V. (Stewart) Baldwin.

Icyl moved with her family to Reno County when she was 10 years old. 
She graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community 
College. After receiving her associates degree she taught school from 
1943-1948. On September 22, 1946, she married Howard B. Wood in South 
Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1997.

The family lived in Montezuma and Coldwater for a short time before 
settling in Dodge City, where she has resided since.&nbsp; Icyl was a 
bookkeeper for Southwest Equipment Company and the Silver Spur Lodge. 
She was an active member of the First Christian Church, where she served
 in the childrens Sunday School and Junior Church. Icyl was also a 
member of the Win A Couple and Happy Partners classes, Swing Shift 
Circle, Women’s Council and Keenagers all ministries of the church.

Survivors include one son, Richard Wood and wife Carol of Vero Beach,
 Florida; two daughters, Marilyn Custer and husband Jimmy of Nowata, 
Oklahoma and Marsha Reid and husband Ken of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada;
 a son-in-law, Maurice Roberts of Winfield; six grandchildren, one 
step-granddaughter, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in 
death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy Roberts; three brothers and 
three sisters.

The family of Icyl Wood is deeply saddened to announce her passing on
 January 13, 2022, at the Manor of the Plains Nursing Facility in Dodge 
City, Kansas.&nbsp; Having just celebrated her 99th birthday a week prior, 
she succumbed to an unexpected medical complication and passed 
peacefully in her sleep. We will all miss her loving presence and the 
warmth of her smile.&nbsp; May our wonderful memories of her remain with us 
forever.

Memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
 Interment has taken place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.&nbsp; There
 was no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are 
suggested to First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;

Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;Werth, who lived her religious vocation as a musician and educator for 83 years, died on March 9, 2022, at Sacred Heart in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.&nbsp;Sister was 101 years old.

Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;was born on June 20, 1920, in&nbsp;Schoenchen, Kansas, the daughter of Frank A. and Rosa (Klaus) Werth. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis on June 13, 1939, made her first profession of vows on June 21, 1941,&nbsp;and final (perpetual) vows on June 21, 1947.&nbsp;

Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;is survived by three sisters: Esther Gottschalk of&nbsp;Schoenchen, Rose Ann Zimmerman of Hays, and&nbsp;Alfrieda&nbsp;(Allen) Pfeifer of Hays;&nbsp;and by the School Sisters of St. Francis&nbsp;community with whom she shared her life for&nbsp;more than eight decades.

Beginning in 1941, Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;ministered in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Nebraska.&nbsp;

In the Archdiocese of Chicago,&nbsp;Sister served as teacher&nbsp;and&nbsp;organist at Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Chicago (1945-1949).

In the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend,&nbsp;Sister served as teacher&nbsp;and&nbsp;organist at St. Rose of Lima School in Monroeville, Indiana (1957-1962).

In the Diocese of Joliet,&nbsp;Sister served as teacher&nbsp;and&nbsp;organist at St. Walter School in Roselle, Illinois (1962-1963).&nbsp;

In the Diocese of Sioux City, Sister taught at Immaculate Conception School in Cherokee, Iowa (1967-1971).

In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sister served as teacher and organist at St. Lawrence School, St. Lawrence (1941-1945), and at Sacred Heart School in Allenton (1949-1955).

In the Archdiocese of Omaha,&nbsp;Sister served as teacher&nbsp;and&nbsp;organist at St. Joseph School in Pierce (1955-1957), SS Peter and Paul School in Butte (1963-1967),&nbsp;and&nbsp;taught at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Omaha (1971-1992) where she also served as tutor ((1992-1993) and&nbsp;as a support staff&nbsp;volunteer (1993-2001).

In her retirement,&nbsp;Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;served in the ministry of prayer and presence at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport, Wisconsin (2002-2013), and at Sacred Heart in Milwaukee from 2013 until the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alvin Werth, Eugene Werth, Gilbert Werth and infant brother Gilbert Werth and sisters,&nbsp;Merilda&nbsp;Randa, Alice&nbsp;Windholz, Viola Rohr, Frances Dreiling, and infant sister, Alice Werth.

A funeral&nbsp;Mass&nbsp;will be celebrated&nbsp;on March 17, 2022,&nbsp;at St. Joseph Chapel in Milwaukee, followed by a private burial service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.

Anita Ellen Fischer, 68, passed away March 12, 2022, KU Med Center, 
Kansas City, Kan.&nbsp; She was born September 18, 1953, in Hutchinson, to 
Arthur Wilson and Frankie Lea (Watkins) Keffer.&nbsp; Ellen married Dennis 
Fischer Feb. 1, 1975, at Peace Church, Hudson.

Ellen, a longtime resident of Great Bend coming from Hutchinson, had 
been the personal property/appraisal clerk for the Barton County 
Appraiser's Office for nearly 30 years, retiring in Dec., 2021.&nbsp; She 
previously worked as a senior draftsperson for Welex, Halliburton. Ellen
 was a graduate of Great Bend High School Class of 1971 and she 
graduated from Barton Community College with an Associates in Music. She
 was a member of Peace Church of Hudson, Barton County Sheriff's 
Reserve, Kansas County Appraisers Association and Kansas Traditional 
Muzzleloading Association.&nbsp; Her zest for life led to activities such as 
Mountain Men Rendezvous and teaching line dancing for the Great Bend 
Recreation Commission.&nbsp; She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, 
and above all, time with her grandson, Braxton.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis of the home; one son, Tom 
Fischer (Jennifer) of Hudson; three brothers, Arthur E. Keffer (Terri) 
of Ellinwood, William G. Keffer (Vicki) of Kansas City, Mo., and Lee A. 
Keffer (Brenda) of Russell; two sisters, Jean Herrman (Larry Partridge) 
of Great Bend and Anna Donecker (Craig) of Great Bend; one grandson, 
Braxton Fischer; mother in law, Donna Fischer, brother in law, Galen 
Fischer, sister and brother in law, Tammy and Bill Milton, all of 
Hudson; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; many 
friends; and her many adopted children of the heart.&nbsp; She was preceded 
in death by her parents; one sister, Jayne Wapelhorst; one niece, Jayne 
Lea Shumate; twin grandsons, Austin Lee and Wyatt Allen Fischer; and 
father in law, Gerald Fischer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Peace Church, Hudson, 492 NE 140th
 St., Hudson, KS 67545, with Pastor Tonya Andrews and Pastor Wade 
Russell presiding.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Peace Church Cemetery.&nbsp;

Anita Ellen Fischer

Gary Lyle Emigh, 81, passed away on March 11, 2022, in Selden, KS. He 
was born on April 11, 1940, in rural Sheridan County to Lyle Zadoc and 
Clyda Belle (Shaw) Emigh.
 Gary was raised in Sheridan County and graduated from Selden Rural 
High School in 1958. After high school Gary started farming and 
carpentry work. On June 7, 1959, Gary married Shirley Rogers in The 
United Methodist Church in Selden. To this union they had four 
children: Lori, Russ, Roger, and Kyle.
 Gary and Shirley settled 5 miles south of Selden. Gary and his dad,
 Lyle, partnered in the farm and established Solomon Valley Hog Farm. 
In addition, they raised multiple crops and cattle.
 After raising their family and retiring, Gary and Shirley moved to 
town and the boys continued the farming operation. Gary continued 
working at his own pace and the boys tried to keep up! It was then that
 he assumed the role of “dispatcher."&nbsp; Even though their Selden homes 
were very nicely remodeled and landscaped by Gary and Shirley. They were
 always drawn back to the farm. Here, they established yet another 
farmstead close to the original where Gary could keep an eye on the farm
 activity and pursue his love of remodeling by restoring campers. He 
always seemed happier the harder he worked.
 Gary had a deep faith from an early age. He was a dedicated steward
 and church was always a priority. He will be remembered as a loving 
husband, father and grandpa, who always kept his family entertained 
through his gift of jovial wit. Gary will be deeply missed by all.
 Gary is survived by his wife, Shirley Emigh of Selden, KS; sons: 
Russ Emigh and Kyle Emigh both of Selden, KS; daughter: Lori (Mark) 
Miller of Selden, KS; sister: Judy (LaVern) Rentschler of Smith Center, 
KS; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived
 by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in
 death by his parents, son: Roger Emigh; sister: Joan Emigh and infant 
twin siblings.&nbsp;

Gary Lyle Emigh

Patrick Thomas McNelis, 61, of Russel, Kansas died on Monday, March 7th, 2022, in his home in Russell.

Patrick was born May 21, 1960, in Duluth, MN to his parents, William 
and Philomena (Rameno) McNelis. He grew up in Duluth, MN and graduated 
from Duluth High in the class of 1978. After graduation, he served in 
the United States Air Force which he considered a civic duty and honor.&nbsp;
 He had 4 children, 3 daughters and a&nbsp; son: Nick, Stacie, Jennifer and 
Lainey. Although he was a shrewd businessman, the largest aspect of his 
identity was being a father. Nothing meant more to him than his 
children.

He married the love of his life, Michele Renee Pasek on August 1, 
2009, in his hometown of Corcoran, MN. It was one of the happiest days 
of his life. He loved bird watching, grilling with loved ones, the 
outdoors and fishing. Above all else, he loved being surrounded by 
family.

Surviving family includes his wife, Michele, children Nick McNelis, 
Stacie McNelis, Jennifer Vazquez (Noe), Lainey Krayca, sisters Mary (Al)
 Quale, Margie McNelis, Linda (Kenny) Mankowski, brothers, Danny 
McNelis, James McNelis (Rebekka Fisher), Robert McNelis and 7 
grandchildren, Adrian, Christian, Julian, Brooks, Sophia, Logan and 
Illia.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents and beautiful sister, 
Kitty Shuma. Patrick’s memorial arrangements will take place this spring

and Philomena (Rameno) McNelis. He grew up in Duluth, MN and graduated 
from Duluth High in the class of 1978. After graduation, he served in 
the United States Air Force which he considered a civic duty and honor.&nbsp;
 He had 4 children, 3 daughters and a&nbsp; son: Nick, Stacie, Jennifer and 
Lainey. Although he was a shrewd businessman, the largest aspect of his 
identity was being a father. Nothing meant more to him than his 
children.He married the love of his life, Michele Renee Pasek on August 1, 
2009, in his hometown of Corcoran, MN. It was one of the happiest days 
of his life. He loved bird watching, grilling with loved ones, the 
outdoors and fishing. Above all else, he loved being surrounded by 
family.Surviving family includes his wife, Michele, children Nick McNelis, 
Stacie McNelis, Jennifer Vazquez (Noe), Lainey Krayca, sisters Mary (Al)
 Quale, Margie McNelis, Linda (Kenny) Mankowski, brothers, Danny 
McNelis, James McNelis (Rebekka Fisher), Robert McNelis and 7 
grandchildren, Adrian, Christian, Julian, Brooks, Sophia, Logan and 
Illia.He was preceded in death by his loving parents and beautiful sister,

Gregg Trauer, 65, of Morland, Kansas died March 11, 2022. He was born in
 Hays, Kansas, to Laurence and Nancy (Wilkes) Trauer. He grew up in Palco
 with his brother, Mark and two sisters: Tammi and Terri. He graduated 
from Palco High School in 1974. Following graduation, he attended the 
Beloit Trade School in Masonry. He did work in construction, but most of
 his life was in the oil fields as a pumper. He loved to fish and camp,
 and was a lifelong fan of baseball, basketball and football especially 
his favorites: the KU Jayhawks, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City 
Chiefs.
 	He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Mark. Leaving
 to mourn his death are his stepmother, Chris Trauer of Hays; his 
daughter, Jessica and husband Jose Alcocer of Lenexa; his sons, Brian 
Trauer and wife Kelsey of Gardner; and Tyler Trauer and wife Kayla of 
Gardner; two sisters: Tammi and husband Darvin of Colby, and Terri Cox 
of Colby; five grandchildren: Shaylee Benoit of Hays, Benson and Kami

He was born July 31, 1918, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the son of Pedro A. and Isabel Gurerro Perez.

A lifetime area resident, he was a John Deere farm equipment mechanic
 and a valued member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned. He loved
 woodworking, whittling, car rides, watching westerns and the rodeo.

On March 6, 1954, he married Grace L. Henderson in Larned; she preceded him in death on May 6, 2021.

Survivors include: Son, Reginald (Erika) Perez, Wichita; Daughter, 
Regina (Harold) Henderson, Wichita; Brother, Raymond (Betty) Perez, 
Larned; Two sisters, Lola Perez and Ann Perez, both of Larned; 
Sister-in-law ErmaLea (Herman) Butler, Harrison, Arkansas; and five

Ronald Dee Underwood, age 74, passed away at the Mosaic Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mo., on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

He was born January 21, 1948, in Agra, Kansas the son of Harvey and Fern (Cottrill) Underwood.

Ronald was united in marriage to Joyce Dusin on February 16, 1974, in Stuttgart, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Others survivors include his daughter Billie Boykin and husband Rick 
of Horton, KS; four grandchildren: Ryland, Cameron, Alli, and Bri 
Boykin; a sister Peggy Gale and husband Loren of Agra, KS; sister-in-law
 Carolyn Underwood of Bennington; nieces; and nephews.

Harold G. "Hal"&nbsp;Nagel died Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the age of 81,&nbsp;at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.

Hal was born May 17, 1940, on the family farm near Natoma, Kan., to parents George Henry and Pauline (Hackerott) Nagel.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was brought up in the Lutheran Church. His childhood was spent exploring nature, getting to know the plants on the farm and stargazing on the roof of the chicken house, experiences which laid the foundation for his career in science.

After graduating from Natoma High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in botany from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp;He received an assistantship to attend Kansas State University in Manhattan, where he earned a doctorate in entomology.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

On Jan. 28, 1967, he married Glennis Carpenter at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland, Kan. &nbsp;To this union a daughter, Anne, was born.&nbsp;They later divorced.

In 1968, he joined the biology department at Kearney State College, now known as the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK).&nbsp;Hal was the first professor to receive all three of the prestigious Pratt-Heins Awards, for research/scholarship (1986), service (1990) and teaching (1994), respectively, as well as the Leland Holdt/Security Mutual Life Distinguished Faculty Award (2004), which is awarded annually to outstanding teacher-scholars.

During his tenure at UNK, he served as chair of the Department of Biology and as president of Faculty Senate.&nbsp;He also helped establish AIM Environmental Group, a research organization for UNK science faculty. He retired from UNK in 2005.

Other service activities included being a charter board member of the Prairie Plains Resource Center, an organization established to preserve Nebraska prairies.&nbsp;He also served on the Crane Meadows Nature Center Board of Directors and was the first manager of the Willa Cather Memorial Prairie for the Nature Conservancy.&nbsp;The 612-acre Cather Prairie is located just south of Cather's hometown of Red Cloud, Neb.&nbsp;Hal also served as president of Big Bend Audubon Society, which helped defeat the proposed Mid-State Reclamation Project.

Survivors include daughter,&nbsp;Anne of Lincoln, Neb.;&nbsp;sister,&nbsp;Marvel Nelson of Blacksburg,&nbsp;Va.;&nbsp;and&nbsp;numerous&nbsp;nieces and nephews.&nbsp;Great-niece,&nbsp;Patty&nbsp;(Dale)&nbsp;Eickhoff of Natoma, Kan.;&nbsp;was his caregiver in his later years.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents,&nbsp;and two sisters, Arlene Scheffer and Lorene Kreft.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the North Lutheran Cemetery in Natoma,&nbsp;with Pastor Michael Schmidt officiating.&nbsp;

Adam Wayne Paschall, 48,&nbsp;passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, in Colorado. &nbsp;

Adam was born&nbsp;in Kansas City,&nbsp;MO&nbsp;to the&nbsp;late Gerald Paschall and Teresa Brown. &nbsp;He was&nbsp;the oldest of ten&nbsp;growing up in Tennessee.

He was a United States Army Veteran and served from 1993-1999, and has been currently working for Schutte Farms.

He met Joy Braun&nbsp;in October of 2013 and has been residing in Goodland since. &nbsp;As Adam told many people, “He met the love of his life." In his spare time, he enjoyed&nbsp;reading, watching movies, and loved watching sports, especially during this time with March Madness. &nbsp;He was a passionate Tennessee Titans fan and he was loyal to the University of Tennessee. He could be found on weeknights and weekends watching Luke in his many activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;Many would see him at the park on walks and playing ball with his 3 loyal best friends, Tripp, Bishop and&nbsp;Jango.

Clark on June 3, 1972, in Great Bend.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three sons; Travis, Kevin and Tanner.&nbsp; They made their home in Great Bend for a couple of years before moving to Milberger, Kansas, where an old house was brought back to life and filled with many family memories.&nbsp; After seventeen years, they moved into Russell.

Ronn worked in the oil field industry as a Pipe Tester with his father for 20 years.&nbsp; Then he worked for the City of Russell in the Electrical Department for 20 years, retiring in 2019.&nbsp; He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend.&nbsp; Ronn had a love for music and enjoyed getting together with friends for jam sessions, attending the musical sessions at the Deines Cultural Center, and playing music at the Pumpkin Patch.&nbsp; His three passions in life were his family, playing music, and collecting oil and gas memorabilia along with any oddities that grabbed his attention.

Ronn’s surviving family include his wife of 49 years, Sherry of the home; three sons, Travis Raymer (Carrie) of Milberger, Kansas, Kevin Raymer (Katie) of South Asia and Tanner Raymer of Denver, Colorado; his father, Milton Raymer of Great Bend, Kansas; brother, Terry Raymer (Jennifer) of Great Bend, Kansas; sisters, Rhonda Snyder (Mike) of Great Bend, Kansas and Cindy Smith (Eric) of Great Bend, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Zoe, Scout, Makenzie, Asher, Dax, Finn, Ethan, Eli, Aden and Noah.

Ronn was preceded in death by his beloved mother.

A Celebration of Ronn’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the First Church of the Nazarene located at 4811 Broadway, Great Bend, KS.&nbsp; A private burial of ashes will follow at a later date.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday, March 18, 2022, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.&nbsp;

Ronald Joe Raymer

Dannie Gene Bahm, age 75, Topeka, KS died peacefully surrounded by 
loved ones on March 12, 2022.&nbsp; He was born September 1, 1946, in Ransom,
 KS to Henry Bahm and Marie (Pinkston) Bahm.&nbsp; He grew up in Alamota, KS 
where he attended school until the age of 13 when his family moved from 
the farm to Scott City.

He graduated from SCHS in 1964 and then attended Fort Hays State 
University.&nbsp; In his teen years, he gained knowledge of working on cars 
while working at Bud’s Vickers Filling Station and became obsessed with 
GTOs while working alongside his uncle, Emil Brandenburger.

Dannie married Elissa Carol Janzen on June 6, 1970.&nbsp; To this union, 
three children were born, Doug Bahm, Darin Bahm, and Carrie (Bahm) 
Doyal.&nbsp; Dannie and Elissa moved to the farm in 1973 and soon after 
Dannie started farming for Keith Janzen, his father-in-law.&nbsp; In addition
 to farming, he enjoyed attending auctions (oh, the treasures he brought
 home and was proud of), farm sales, cattle sales, and hosting pheasant 
hunts.&nbsp; He loved raising all kinds of animals including buffalo, horses,
 cattle, chickens, turkeys, guineas, pigs, rabbits, pheasants, and 
dogs.&nbsp; He loved sharing this hobby (and responsibility) with his 
family.&nbsp; He also loved oil witching with his cousin, Ernie Kuehn, and 
would talk to anyone that would listen about oil witching.&nbsp; He even 
wanted to teach one of his nurses how to witch for oil.&nbsp; Dannie enjoyed 
spending time with family and attending (and planning extra events, 
remember Elvis) for family reunions.&nbsp; He loved to play pranks too, 
especially around Halloween (just ask the neighbors).&nbsp; He enjoyed 
singing off-tune for his grandkids at bedtime just to hear them giggle.&nbsp;
 His love of farming, which started during childhood, continued until 
retirement in 2021.

&nbsp; Survivors include wife, Elissa Bahm, children, Doug Bahm (Topeka), 
Darin and Vicky Bahm (Kansas City, MO), and Carrie and Scott Doyal 
(Topeka), grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Jordan and Kaitlyn 
Doyal, Cameron, Jenna, and Amanda Bahm, and Austin Taylor.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 18th, 2022, at 10:30 am at
 the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas with Pastor Don Williams
 presiding.

Emagene Ilene Storms, age 85, died on March 12, 2022, at the Hodgeman 
County Health Center, Jetmore, Kansas. She was born in Ness City, Kansas
 on November 14, 1936, the daughter of Harve and Elma (Tittel) Mauch.

After high school graduation, Emagene attended and graduated from a 
school of cosmetology.&nbsp; She worked as a beautician and a secretary for 
many years.&nbsp; In 1957, Emagene married Clyde Gross.&nbsp; They were later 
divorced.&nbsp; On May 7, 1973, she married Jerome Storms in Oregon.&nbsp; He died 
November 13, 2021.

Emagene is survived by her four children, Terry Gross (Ruthie Bray) 
of Hoisington, Susan Frusher (Tom) and Cindy Reinert (Mike) of Ness 
City, and Christina Cohoon (Darin) of Jetmore; two brothers, Larry Mauch
 (Lucy) of Denton, Texas and John Mauch (Lois) of Beeler; three sisters,
 Sharon Erskin (Don) of Great Bend, Ramona Meis of Ness City, and Mary 
Ann Clay of Hill City; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.&nbsp; She
 was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jerome Storms.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at 
Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.&nbsp; Viewing will be held at the funeral
 home on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and

Emagene Ilene Storms

Patrick Allen Thompson was born in Holyoke, Colorado, on August 10, 
1956, to John and Berneice Thompson.&nbsp; He passed away peacefully on March 
12, 2022, at his home in Goodland, Kansas, at the age of 65.

Pat grew up on a dairy farm southwest of Holyoke and graduated from 
Holyoke High School in 1974.&nbsp; While attending school, he met the love of
 his life, Shelly Rae Smith.&nbsp; They were married on January 26, 1975.&nbsp; 
They had been married 47 years upon his passing.&nbsp;&nbsp; To this union were 
born two sons, Phillip Mathew Thompson and Aaron Paul Thompson.&nbsp; He was 
extremely proud of both his sons.

After struggling for many years, Pat found the rooms of Alcoholic 
Anonymous and began his sobriety journey on August 30, 1989. At the time
 of his passing had achieved 32 years of sobriety.&nbsp;&nbsp; Pat found many 
lifelong friendships in those rooms and was able to help many others by 
sharing his experience, strength and hope with them.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This was one of 
his greatest accomplishments in life.

Although Pat spent a good share of his life farming, in 1986, he 
enrolled in the Northwest Kansas Technical College electrical program 
and became a master electrician.&nbsp; He was skilled and very knowledgeable 
in many things.&nbsp; There was not much he couldn’t do.

Pat enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, motorcycling, 
fishing and camping. &nbsp;He got great joy out of attending Round Robins and
 AA campouts. &nbsp;He was a generous man and freely gave his time to others.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, John and Berneice Thompson 
and a brother, John Thompson.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife of the home, 
Shelly Thompson; sons, Phillip (Christina) Thompson of Culbertson, NE 
and Aaron (Sabrina) Thompson of Goodland, KS; brother Arthur Thompson of
 Klamath Falls, OR, sister Jo (Terry) Thatcher of Goodland, KS; 
sister-in-laws Karla (Alan) Hassler of Kremmling, CO and Terri Smith of

 She was a graduate of Westminster High School in Colorado in the class 
of 1965.&nbsp; On August 7, 1982, she was united in marriage to Harold F. 
Perrett in Westminster, and they celebrated 40 years of marriage.&nbsp; In 
1992, she graduated Cum Laude from Southeastern Louisiana University 
with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and worked as a social worker at
 Hays Medical Center.&nbsp; She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic 
Church.&nbsp; Esther enjoyed reading, baking, movies, and never missed 
watching the Oscars every year with Harold.&nbsp; Esther was loving and kind,
 never met a stranger, put others’ needs ahead her own, and through all 
challenges possessed a positive spirit.&nbsp; All who knew Esther loved her, 
especially her family whom she loved most of all.

Survivors include her husband Harold of

Esther Leanne Perrett

Elmer Wilmer Maier, 96, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell, Kansas

Elmer was born on August 24, 1925, on the Maier family farm 11 miles 
south of Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the son of John and Lydia (Lohmann) 
Maier.&nbsp; He was baptized and confirmed at the Bender Hill Lutheran Church
 in rural Russell.&nbsp; He attended a one room school house until 8th
 grade.&nbsp; While attending one of many community dances Elmer met his 
future wife Hilda I. Funk.&nbsp; They were united in marriage on February 22,
 1948, at the Bender Hill Lutheran Church.&nbsp; This union was blessed with 3
 children Twila, Pauletta &amp; Dana.&nbsp; They made their home on the 
family farm.&nbsp; They worked side by side for many years.&nbsp; Besides farming 
Elmer also worked construction. &nbsp;He was a member of the Gorham Community
 Church in Gorham, Kansas. &nbsp;He enjoyed playing baseball and fishing but 
most of all he loved music to his dying day.

Surviving family include his daughters Twila Allen of Greensburg,

A celebration of Elmer’s life will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday,
 March 16, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, 
Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Galatia, 
Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Tuesday, March 15,

 </figure>Elmer Wilmer Maier, 96, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell, KansasElmer was born on August 24, 1925, on the Maier family farm 11 miles 
south of Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the son of John and Lydia (Lohmann) 
Maier.&nbsp; He was baptized and confirmed at the Bender Hill Lutheran Church
 in rural Russell.&nbsp; He attended a one room school house until 8th
 grade.&nbsp; While attending one of many community dances Elmer met his 
future wife Hilda I. Funk.&nbsp; They were united in marriage on February 22,
 1948, at the Bender Hill Lutheran Church.&nbsp; This union was blessed with 3
 children Twila, Pauletta &amp; Dana.&nbsp; They made their home on the 
family farm.&nbsp; They worked side by side for many years.&nbsp; Besides farming 
Elmer also worked construction. &nbsp;He was a member of the Gorham Community
 Church in Gorham, Kansas. &nbsp;He enjoyed playing baseball and fishing but 
most of all he loved music to his dying day.Surviving family include his daughters Twila Allen of Greensburg, 
Kansas and Pauletta Scheck of Ellinwood, Kansas and son Dana Maier and 
wife April of Salina, Kansas; brother Sidney Maier and wife Patricia of

Arthur “John” Thul, 76, passed away on March 12, 2022, at Via Christ 
St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on April 21, 1945, at Great 
Bend, Kansas, to Arthur &amp; Esther (Fosdick) Thul. He was previously 
married to Jacque Van Steenburgh.

A life-time resident of Great Bend, John worked as a bookkeeper for R
 &amp; S Repair and Sunflower Diversified Services. In his younger days,
 he enjoyed working on cars, watching races and NASCAR, boats, and 
fishing. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish and Knights of 
Columbus.

Survivors include his mother of Great Bend; Jacque Van Steenburgh of 
Great Bend; and a stepdaughter, Sheryl Spears of Great Bend. He is 
preceded in death by his father; a brother, Franklin Thul; and an infant
 sister, Linda Thul.

Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March
 15, 2022, with the family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a 
Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. 
Funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. &nbsp;Wednesday, March 16, 
2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Prakash Kola presiding.
 Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood,

Joseph John Hojda was born February 20, 1939, on a farm north of Lebanon,
 KS. He was the son of Gene and Marvel (Snow) Hojda. He passed away 
March 10, 2022, at the Smith County Memorial Hospital at the age of 83.
 He was known as John and he liked to farm but he loved his cow herd 
the best. When he wasn’t busy farming or attending his cattle, he was 
making improvements on his farm. He enjoyed building fence and built 
miles of it. John planted hundreds of cedar trees for windbreaks not 
only around the farm site but also in pastures for his cattle. In the 
evenings when his days work was finished, he was an avid reader. He 
read a variety of subjects and before poor health took place, he 
retained most of what he read. 
 John attended Northwest Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota thinking
 he would try the medical profession but decided he preferred farming. 
While in Minneapolis, he met his future wife. John married Sharyn 
Dykstra on February 8, 1968 in Superior, Nebraska. To this union were 
born a son Jeff and a daughter Dana.
 John was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeff and a grandson Jonathan Hojda.
 John is survived by his wife Sharyn of Lebanon, KS; daughter Dana 
(Brent) Peterson of Smith Center, KS; sister Judy Schlarb; grandson 
Martin Hojda; three great granddaughters and nieces.&nbsp;

Joseph was born December 31, 1961, in Wakeeney, Kansas, to Paul and Kathleen (Lacerte) Schamberger. 
He attended Trego Community High school. Joseph continued his education 
at Fort Hays University and earned his degree in Agricultural Business. 
Following graduation, he then farmed for many years. Joseph moved to 
Wichita where he became a Master Electrician. 
Survivors include father, Paul Schamberger; his three daughters, Taylor 
(Brandon) Wilken, Brooke (Jonathan) Just, Smantha (Jessie) Terronez; 
four brothers, Richard (Dana) Schamberger, Robert (Pam) Schamberger, 
Phillip (Sarah) Schamberger, and Kevin (Patricia) Schamberger; five 
sisters, Chris (Bruce) Wilson, Mary (Bruce) Engelman, Elaine (Roy)

Diane Lynn Dexter, 69, passed away on March 10, 2022, at the Ness 
County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on December 8, 1952,&nbsp; in Hays, Kansas the daughter of Donald and Billie (Jobe) Swim.

In 1976, Diane married Jack Dexter. They later divorced. In May of 
1985, she met Bob Roths and they remained together for 37 years until 
his death on January 16, 2022.

Survivors include her daughter, Ginger Braun and her husband, James 
Watterson of Ness City; her son, Brandon Dexter and his wife, Elizabeth,
 of Emporia; her brother, Donald Swim of Arizona; 2 sisters, Sue 
Fehrenbach and her husband, Eldon, of Ness City, Jeanne Hanson and her 
husband, Dana, of Benton, Kansas; 9 grandchildren, Lauren, Dakota, 
Mackenzie, Jaiden, Zach, Elijah, Joshua, Caleb, and Owen. Roths family 
members include Monty Roths and his wife, Briana, of Wichita; Kenny 
Roths and his wife, Lucinda of Salina; 8 grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy, 
Danielle, Isaac, Sam, Madison, Makenna, and Meaghan; and 7 
great-grandchildren, Dakoda, Tage, Lucas, Liam, Malachi, Ellissa, and

Ollie Annette Guthrie, 83, passed away on March 9, 2022, at St. 
Francis Hospital, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on September 6, 1938,
 in Webb City, Okla., to Wiley Albert and Olive Irene (Snyder) Burns. 
She married Bob Lee Guthrie September 6, 1958, in Ponca City, Okla.&nbsp; He 
died August 9, 1998.

&nbsp;A resident of Owasso, Okla., she worked for Guthrie Steaming and 
Service, Inc. in Great Bend as an owner, secretary and treasurer until 
selling the company and retiring.&nbsp; She moved to Oklahoma to be closer to
 more family members and started volunteering her time at the Tulsa Air 
and Space Museum as a guide and salesperson for memberships.&nbsp; She 
quickly acquired a salaried/commissioned position after becoming the 
company’s top salesperson for new members.

Ollie Annette Guthrie attended the Assembly of God Church in Owasso.&nbsp;
 She also enjoyed attending A Glorious Church in Collinsville, Okla., 
with her sister Darlene. She cherished the weekly divine conversations 
with her neighbors whom she loved dearly.&nbsp; She also enjoyed playing 
Bunco with her neighbors and nearby ladies who labeled themselves the 
Beautiful Bunco Babes.&nbsp; One of her milestone memories was the trip she 
took to Jerusalem to visit the Holy Land with her sister and 
daughter-in-law.&nbsp; She engaged in volunteer work rescuing abused dogs and
 any animal in need.

Annette admired Elvis Presley and had visited Graceland on numerous 
occasions. Another of her favorite artists was Merle Haggard who she was
 able to meet and have her picture taken with. One of her most loved and
 cherished activities was spending time with her kids, grandkids, great 
grandkids and great-great grand kids.

Survivors include one son, Britt (Amy) Guthrie of Stillwater, Okla.; 
two daughters, Terri (Randy) Gorney of Oswego, Kan., and Shawn Guthrie 
of Fayetteville, Ark.; two sisters, Darlene Bricker of Collinsville, 
Okla., and Imogene (David) Harrell of The Villages, Fla.; two brothers, 
Lester Burns of Stillwater, and Larry (Donna) Burns of Stillwater; six 
grandchildren, Jason McAnulla, Jeremy McAnulla, Shane Gorney, Jerad 
Gorney, Garrett Guthrie and Gavin Guthrie; twelve great-grandchildren; 
and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her 
husband; her parents; and a daughter, Mauna Dee Guthrie.
