On Sunday, October 23rd, 2022, William "Bill" Getty passed away at the age of 89. He was born on March 18th, 1933, in Downs, Kansas, to William and Hazel (McStay) Getty. Bill graduated from Downs High School. He was a Marine and served in the Korean War.

On June 10, 1956, he married Audrey Bedient and together they raised one daughter, Lynne. Growing up, Bill played a variety of sports, from baseball with Osborne American Legion to being a member of the 1950 undefeated Downs High School basketball team. He even went on to be the assistant coach for the 1971 Logan High School state champions in basketball. Bill also loved to golf and spent many hours on the various golf courses in the area. He won many golf awards over the years. In his later years, Bill could be found with a never ending supply of Brach’s jelly beans and a steady rotation of true crime novels. Bill was preceded in death by his father William, his mother Hazel, his sisters Jeanne, Helen, Liz, and Elaine, as well as his wife Audrey. He is survived by his daughter Lynne Getty of Hendersonville NC, his sister Pat Steen of Ulysses KS, his brother Steven Getty of Ottawa KS, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. No services are being held, as Bill would not have wanted any additional attention. Bonnie Lou Schartz, 90, passed away November 2, 2022, at Thorne Care 
Center-Wesley Towers, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; She was born June 3, 1932, in 
Russell, KS, the youngest child of eleven, to James Harbaugh and Bertha 
(Ringeisen) Harbaugh.

Bonnie was a 1950 graduate of Great Bend High School, Great Bend, KS.

On October 16, 1951, she married Aubrey Linus Schartz, in Ellinwood, 
KS.&nbsp; They shared over 62 years of marriage, prior to his death on 
September 14, 2014.

Bonnie is survived by:&nbsp; her children, Dennis (Berniece) Schartz of 
Enid, OK, Conan Schartz of Hutchinson, KS, Po Ellen (Larry) Anderson of 
Great Bend, KS, Jo Schartz of Hutchinson, KS, Glen (Debbie) Schartz of 
Hutchinson, KS, and Zeta (Stan) Boese of Hutchinson, KS; nine 
grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband; and all ten siblings.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Bonnie Lou Schartz

Rosemary Walters Gerstner, 100, joined the legions of angels and saints 
on October 31, 2022. She was a devoted woman of faith as well as a 
sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and 
great-great-grandmother. 

Rosemary was born in the unincorporated town of
 Severin, Kansas, and grew up in Hays, Kansas, where she was raised with 
her 10 sisters and 1 brother. At the age of 10, Rosemary lost her mother
 and sister to ptomaine poisoning. Another sister succumbed to polio. 
She worked as a retail clerk at Weisner's Department Store to help with 
family finances and graduated from Girls Catholic High. She was married 
almost 60 years to the love of her life, Ernest Gerstner, when he passed
 in 2002. Together they raised four children, Miriam Wilson, Gregory, 
Linda Manning (Michael), and Debra Jones (Robert). Her 
half-brother, Ronald Walters and half-sister, Janet Gerstner will carry 
on the Walters family traditions. She also leaves eight grandchildren, 
Melissa Sims (John), Wanda Walters (James), Aaron and Joey Gerstner, 
Matthew (Chelsea) and Monica Manning, Rachel and John Jones; seven 
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren to carry on her
 legacy of love and faith. In addition to her husband, 
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Monica Walters,
 her step-mother, Rose Walters, all of her sisters, brother, 
step-brother and step-sister. Rosemary's faith was most 
important to her. Rosemary attended St. Pius X Catholic Church in 
Conyers, GA, volunteering in the St. Cecilia Parish Choir, The 
Resurrection Choir (funeral choir), money counting, as well as aiding 
whenever called for last minute needs of the parish. Once her 
children were in school, Rosemary worked for Internal Revenue Service 
during the tax season, entering returns manually, until something better
 came along: computers. She then trained on punch cards (remember 
those?). She moved on to training new employees and writing a training 
manual. After retirement, Rosemary became a hospital volunteer at St. 
Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, until she and Ernest moved to Conyers. She
 continued her hospital volunteer work for Rockdale Medical Center (now 
Piedmont Rockdale Hospital) for 19 years. While Rosemary saw 
and experienced a lot of changes over her 100 years, she left an 
indelible mark on her family, friends, and church. A Funeral 
Mass will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10:30 am at St. Pius X 
Catholic Church with Father Juan Areiza as Celebrant; interment will 
follow at Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross. Family will receive

Rosemary Walters Gerstner

Brandon Lee Leiker, 32, Hays, died Monday, October 31, 2022, in Rural Rush County.

He was born December 26, 1989, in Hays, 
the son of Paul and Cheryl (Dinkel) Leiker.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 2008 graduate of 
Hays High School and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 
in Munjor.&nbsp;&nbsp;Brandon loved being a lifelong farmer, and he farmed south 
of Munjor.&nbsp;&nbsp;From little on up, every chance he had, he would ride with 
his grandpa or his dad on the tractor.&nbsp;&nbsp;He especially loved harvest, was
 so proud when he could finally drive the combine by himself, and looked
 forward to the delicious food his mom would bring out to the 
field.&nbsp;&nbsp;Brandon loved playing cards with family and friends, going to 
auctions with his brothers, and spending time with his little sister 
Brittnee, whom he was very protective of.&nbsp;&nbsp;Brandon became an uncle in 
May of 2021 and his little nephew Jayden was his pride and joy.&nbsp;&nbsp;He 
loved to hang out with him every chance he got and always had the 
biggest smile when he was with him.

Survivors include his parents: Paul and
 Cheryl Leiker of Hays, maternal grandparents: Delmar Dinkel of Hays and
 Arlene Giebler and husband Ivan of Hays, two brothers: Jordan Leiker 
and wife Jenaya of Hays and Blake Leiker of Munjor, a sister: Brittnee 
Leiker of Hays, nephew Jayden Leiker, and numerous aunts, uncles, and 
cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Norbert P. and Betty Leiker.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
 Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will follow in St.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Janice Workman
 and Shirley White; her husband Duane Riemann; and a son-in-law Bill 
Alexander.

Survivors include her son Dallas Troutner and wife Bobbi of Fairbury,
 NE; two daughters Gayle Alexander of Almena, KS and Cynthia Hammond and
 husband Craig of Long Island, KS; 10 grandchildren; 7 great 
grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Berta 
Beth Moss, 85, of Salina, Kansas. She passed on Tuesday, November 1st, 
2022, at her home in Salina, Kansas.

Berta was born in 
Beloit, Kansas on February 26, 1937, to Ethel O. (Margreiter) and Dwight
 A Timbers.  She was united in marriage to Dan Moss and together they 
had 3 children, Zan, Krista, and A.T.  Berta and Dan celebrated 66 years
 of marriage.

Berta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and 
great grandmother.  She and Dan loved to travel to visit family and 
friends and to spend time in many island destinations.  Her true love 
was to entertain by cooking and baking and sharing her meals with family
 and friends.   Her home was always a welcome and loving place to stay.

Survivors
 include her husband, Daniel "Dan" Moss; daughter, Krista Decker (Kurt),
 of Downs, Kansas; &nbsp;two sons, Daniel "Zan" Moss (Kerry), of Winnemucca, 
Nevada, Arden "A.T." Moss (Jodi), of Spring Creek, Nevada; 8 
grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and her sister, Bernita &nbsp;Eberle, 
of Glen Elder, Kansas.

She is preceded in death

Berta Beth Moss

Candis Elaine Hale, 77, died Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at High Plains
 Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. She was born June 19, 1945, in 
Wichita, Kansas. 
 Candis attended schools in Wichita and Lebanon, Kansas and 
graduated in 1963 from Lakin Rural High School where she participated in
 band, choir, and cheerleading. She then attended Fort Hays State 
University. She married Stephen M. McCormick and they lived in Hays, 
Kingman, Emporia, and Lakin, Kansas. Candis later married Waldo W. Hale
 in February 1980. Candis worked for Jon Wheat, D.D.S., County 
Emporium, Kep’s Menswear, and for several years was a lead volunteer for
 Jeanne B. Corley Hospice in Garden City. Candis was also a longtime 
member of PEO Chapter FQ, the Lakin Booster Club, she always dressed as 
the Easter Bunny at Easter, and was extremely involved in Love Lights A 
Tree for the American Cancer Society. Her hobbies included decorating, 
reading, cooking, playing cards, and she loved to spend time with her 
family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 </figure>Candis Elaine Hale, 77, died Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at High Plains
 Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. She was born June 19, 1945, in 
Wichita, Kansas. 
 Candis attended schools in Wichita and Lebanon, Kansas and 
graduated in 1963 from Lakin Rural High School where she participated in
 band, choir, and cheerleading. She then attended Fort Hays State 
University. She married Stephen M. McCormick and they lived in Hays, 
Kingman, Emporia, and Lakin, Kansas. Candis later married Waldo W. Hale
 in February 1980. Candis worked for Jon Wheat, D.D.S., County 
Emporium, Kep’s Menswear, and for several years was a lead volunteer for
 Jeanne B. Corley Hospice in Garden City. Candis was also a longtime 
member of PEO Chapter FQ, the Lakin Booster Club, she always dressed as 
the Easter Bunny at Easter, and was extremely involved in Love Lights A 
Tree for the American Cancer Society. Her hobbies included decorating, 
reading, cooking, playing cards, and she loved to spend time with her 
family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 
 Survivors include her husband Waldo W. Hale of the home; four

Candis Elaine Hale

Ellen Louisa Richter, 91, passed away on November 2, 2022, at Aster 
Estates in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born November 18, 1930, in Great 
Bend, to Charles C. and Gertrude (Hemken) Dirks.

Ellen was raised on a farm in rural Albert, Kansas. She attended Otis
 High School in Otis, Kansas where she met Melvin Richter.&nbsp; They were 
married a few months after her graduation on July 27, 1948. Ellen was a 
lifetime member of Peace Lutheran Church, where she participated in many
 activities throughout the years, especially singing in the choir.&nbsp; In 
1961, Ellen and Melvin purchased the franchise for Tom’s Foods and 
worked together selling candy and chips in and around Great Bend until 
their retirement in 1998.&nbsp; She also worked in the office at Doonan Truck
 &amp; Equipment.

Ellen loved her family and enjoyed supporting their interests, 
driving to music rehearsals and lessons, and attending concerts and 
other school activities.&nbsp; She was a proud drum corps mom, following the 
Argonne Rebels to many contests and performances.&nbsp; Her grandchildren 
loved spending holidays, spring breaks and summer vacations with her.&nbsp; 
Ellen taught them all to drive….. fast! and always sent them home with 
“samples” of the latest candy.&nbsp; She and Melvin introduced their 
grandkids and great-grandkids to the fun of fireworks, hosting family 
July 4th celebrations each year.

Ellen is survived by her husband of 74 years, Melvin Richter of Great
 Bend; two sons and a daughter, Don Richter and Cindy Cummins; Lynn 
Richter; and Linda Richter; five grandchildren, Trev, Anne, Josh, 
Allison and Matt; six great-grandchildren, Ember, Henry, Ollie, 
Meredith, Terry and Sagan; and her brother Delmer Dirks. She was 
preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Clarence 
Dirks; and son-in-law, John Allain.

Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November
 6, 2022, at Bryant Fuenral Home, with the family receiving guests from 
4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral service will
 take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Peace Lutheran
 Church in rural Albert with internment following in the church 
cemetery. 

Memorials have been designated to Peace Lutheran Church, in 
care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Ellen Louisa Richter

William Paul O’Brien was born April 14, 1951, in Goodland, Kansas, to 
Patrick J. and Dorothy J. (Harder) O’Brien. As a youngster he grew up 
North of Palisade, Nebraska, and moving with family to California, 
graduated from Artesia High School, Lakewood, California, in 1970. 
 Bill, as he was known, was employed as a warehouse manager for the 
GemCo Company in Southern California. He then began his career in 
trucking, working for UPS, and Agland. Later, Bill was employed with the
 Ted Behlke Farms retiring in 2003. Bill married Sharon 
Pursley on July 15, 1995, in Benkelman, Nebraska, where the couple made 
their home. Bill was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, of 
Benkelman, and the Benkelman Country Club. Bill loved to golf, and 
enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He especially loved spending time
 with his friends and family. Bill passed away, Sunday afternoon, October 30, 2022, at his home in Benkelman. He was 71 years of age. Survivors Include: Children: Tracy Gruwell and husband, Donald, of Huntington Beach, CA; Kelly Contreras and husband, Torrey, Cerritos, CA.

Betty Louise (Racette) Zimmerman

(Brian) Kerry Adolph, 60, of Lawrence, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, in
 St. Louis, MO. He was born April 2, 1962, in Colby to Harvey Richard 
“Dick” and Juliet (Hess) Adolph. 
Kerry graduated from Colby High School in 1980 and married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn “Kathi” Glad, on Oct. 18, 1980. 
Kerry and Kathi were long-time Colby residents before moving to Lawrence
 22 years ago. Kerry, along with his father, ran their family farm for 
years. At the same time, Kerry was the jack-of-all-trades at Julie 
Adolph Interiors doing anything and everything that needed done. Kerry 
and Kathi lived in several homes in Colby, selling each after he had 
fixed it up and was ready to move on to the next project. 
When Adolph Interiors moved to Lawrence, Kerry moved with the business 
and transitioned to leading the business’ day-to-day operations, which 
included completing the build out from scratch. He enjoyed being part of
 a harvest crew and stayed connected to farming after the move to 
Lawrence. He continued to return to Colby each fall to help with harvest
 at Frahm Farmland. 
A devoted father and sports enthusiast, Kerry never missed his son’s 
football and basketball games or his daughters’ many activities. He was 
an avid University of Kansas fan. 
Kerry was preceded in death by his daughter, Candace Leigh (Adolph) Gay, and his father, Harvey Richard "Dick" Adolph. 
He is survived by his wife, Kathi, of the home; son, Kristopher Cole 
“K.C.” (Christine) Adolph and grandchild, Logan Leigh, of Burke, VA; 
daughter, Chandlar Adolph, of Lawrence; son-in-law, Brandon Gay, of 
Norton; mother, Julie Adolph, of Colby; sister, Kristin (Greg) 
Issinghoff, of Lawrence; sister, Jennifer (Ab) Smith, of Sharon Springs;
 brother-in-law, Vincent (Tenley) Glad, of Colby; nieces and nephews,

Brian 'Kerry' Adolph

Derril Lee Castor, 88, of Russell, Kansas, passed away peacefully 
Monday, October 24, 2022, at Russell Regional Hospital with his family by
 his side.

Derril was born August 8, 1934, in Torrington, Wyoming, the son of 
Glen and Ethel (Durham) Castor.&nbsp; He lived his early years in Arapahoe, 
Colorado with his parents and older brother, Delbert. During his 
elementary school years, the family had moved to Kansas in the Russell 
and Osborne areas. Derril moved schools often, but found his grounding 
in Osborne, Kansas through the connection of his coach, James Lewis 
“Lew” Comer. Lew helped find Osborne families with whom Derril could 
live with during high school. Derril was a hard worker and held several 
part-time jobs to support himself when he wasn’t atschool or practice 
for football, basketball, track, or baseball. He was class president his
 freshman and senior years and graduated from Osborne High School in 
1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and served from 1957 to 
1962.&nbsp;

While in Osborne, Derril met his life partner, Marvel J. Mitchell, 
when he was in 7th grade. Their friendship continued throughout high 
school. He and Marvel were married on November 21, 1959, at the First 
Christian Church in Osborne, Kansas. This union was blessed with two 
children; L’Mitchell and Lezlee.&nbsp; They have made Russell their home 
since 1963.

Derril attended Ft. Hays State University where he obtained a B.S. in
 Art Education in 1964 and an M.S. in Art in 1966. Derril began teaching
 at Natoma High School and then Ruppenthal Middle School in Russell. For
 the majority of his 33 year teaching career, Derril taught Arts and 
Crafts at Russell High School. When he wasn’t teaching, Derril farmed 
and ranched in Osborne, County. He was a founding member of the 
Russell’s Original Art Review (ROAR) in Russell.&nbsp; He was a member of the
 St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church of Russell and later attended the St. 
John Lutheran Church. He loved making jewelry, pottery, ice cream, and 
beef jerky.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and gardening. He especially 
loved watching and attending his grandsons’ activities, and traveling 
with Marvel and friends. His little jokes and sweet nature will be truly
 missed. Derril will always been remembered as a true gentle-man.&nbsp;

Derril’s surviving family include his wife of 62 years Marvel of the 
home; son, L’Mitchell Castor of Prairie Village, Kansas; daughter, 
Lezlee Ivy (Eric) of Parkville, Missouri; and four grandsons, Connor 
Castor, Nick Castor, Brock Ivy and Tate Ivy; brother, Larry Castor 
(Gayle) of Littleton, Colorado, their children Blaine and Rolna; niece 
Terri Crandall and nephews Jeff and Jay Castor. He also left several 
cousins and a host of friends.

Derril was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Delbert Castor.

Celebration of Derril’s life will be held at St. John Lutheran Church
 on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 11:00 A.M.&nbsp; Private burial of ashes 
will take place at a later time. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests 
memorials be given to the Russell Original Art Review (ROAR) or the 
Derril Castor Memorial Fund and sent in care of the mortuary. 
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the 
funeral service.&nbsp;

 </figure>Derril Lee Castor, 88, of Russell, Kansas, passed away peacefully 
Monday, October 24, 2022, at Russell Regional Hospital with his family by
 his side.Derril was born August 8, 1934, in Torrington, Wyoming, the son of 
Glen and Ethel (Durham) Castor.&nbsp; He lived his early years in Arapahoe, 
Colorado with his parents and older brother, Delbert. During his 
elementary school years, the family had moved to Kansas in the Russell 
and Osborne areas. Derril moved schools often, but found his grounding 
in Osborne, Kansas through the connection of his coach, James Lewis 
“Lew” Comer. Lew helped find Osborne families with whom Derril could 
live with during high school. Derril was a hard worker and held several 
part-time jobs to support himself when he wasn’t atschool or practice 
for football, basketball, track, or baseball. He was class president his
 freshman and senior years and graduated from Osborne High School in 
1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and served from 1957 to 
1962.&nbsp;While in Osborne, Derril met his life partner, Marvel J. Mitchell, 
when he was in 7th grade. Their friendship continued throughout high 
school. He and Marvel were married on November 21, 1959, at the First 
Christian Church in Osborne, Kansas. This union was blessed with two 
children; L’Mitchell and Lezlee.&nbsp; They have made Russell their home 
since 1963.Derril attended Ft. Hays State University where he obtained a B.S. in
 Art Education in 1964 and an M.S. in Art in 1966. Derril began teaching
 at Natoma High School and then Ruppenthal Middle School in Russell. For
 the majority of his 33 year teaching career, Derril taught Arts and 
Crafts at Russell High School. When he wasn’t teaching, Derril farmed 
and ranched in Osborne, County. He was a founding member of the 
Russell’s Original Art Review (ROAR) in Russell.&nbsp; He was a member of the
 St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church of Russell and later attended the St. 
John Lutheran Church. He loved making jewelry, pottery, ice cream, and 
beef jerky.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and gardening. He especially 
loved watching and attending his grandsons’ activities, and traveling 
with Marvel and friends. His little jokes and sweet nature will be truly
 missed. Derril will always been remembered as a true gentle-man.&nbsp;Derril’s surviving family include his wife of 62 years Marvel of the 
home; son, L’Mitchell Castor of Prairie Village, Kansas; daughter, 
Lezlee Ivy (Eric) of Parkville, Missouri; and four grandsons, Connor 
Castor, Nick Castor, Brock Ivy and Tate Ivy; brother, Larry Castor 
(Gayle) of Littleton, Colorado, their children Blaine and Rolna; niece 
Terri Crandall and nephews Jeff and Jay Castor. He also left several 
cousins and a host of friends.Derril was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Delbert Castor.Celebration of Derril’s life will be held at St. John Lutheran Church
 on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 11:00 A.M.&nbsp; Private burial of ashes 
will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers the family requests 
memorials be given to the Russell Original Art Review (ROAR) or the 
Derril Castor Memorial Fund and sent in care of the mortuary.

Mary Margaret Younker, &nbsp;92, of Hays, Kansas, died Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays.

Mary was born May 24, 1930, in Victoria to Frank M. and Rosa (Hertel) Dinkel. &nbsp;Mary graduated from Victoria High School in 1948. &nbsp;She attended Fort Hays State College graduating with a teaching certificate in 1950.&nbsp;

She married Walter J. Younker on August 22, 1949, in Victoria.&nbsp;He preceded her in death on September&nbsp;24, 2020.&nbsp;She started her teaching career at Severin and Spring Hill Schools.&nbsp; After the birth of her second child and move to the family farm, she managed the farm activities and took care of her family.&nbsp;

In 1968, Mary returned to college to get her degree in Education with an emphasis in Library Science. &nbsp;After graduation, she taught at St Mary’s Catholic School in Ellis, Schoenchen Elementary School,&nbsp;and&nbsp;St Joseph’s Catholic School in Hays. &nbsp;She also served as the school librarian at St Joseph’s Catholic School.

She was a talented seamstress. &nbsp;She enjoyed sewing and making&nbsp;quilts. &nbsp;She made 50+ quilts which she gifted to her children, grandchildren and friends. &nbsp;She also loved to cook large meals for her family and church functions. &nbsp;She was instrumental in cooking and leading the annual Fall Feast at the Antonino Church.

She was a member of Our Lady of Help of Christians Catholic Church, Antonino. &nbsp;She served as Treasurer for the Christian Mothers&nbsp;organization&nbsp;for many years.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a club leader for the Ellis County Good Hope 4-H Club. &nbsp;She volunteered at the Gift Shop at Hays Medical Center.

Survivors include her two sons, David Younker, Hays, KS and Dale Younker and wife, Paula, Jetmore, KS; her two daughters, Dianne DeGood and husband, Alan, Goddard, KS; and Donna Myers and husband, Patrick, Lawrence, KS; her brother, Fr. Harvey Dinkel O.F.M. Cap. Victoria, KS; her two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Dinkel, Victoria, KS; Twila Griffin, Weatherford, OK; her brother-in-law, Delbert Rohr, Wichita, KS; her six grandchildren, Kerrie Mayans (Jason), Melissa Opbroek (Aaron), Brandy Leon (Nick), and Julia Myers, Brad Younker (Jessica), and Brian Younker (Carmon); her 15 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Mayans, Madeline Mayans, Cecilia Mayans, Charlotte Mayans, Carley Younker, Camryn Younker, Leyah Younker, Lyndi Younker, Leesey Younker, Cadynce Leon, McKenna Leon; Alex Mayans, Carter Opbroek, Paxton Leon and Clayton Younker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her eleven sisters, Fidelis Dinkel; Julitta Dechant; Bertha Prewo; Regina Dechant; Sr. Francis Rose Dinkel C.S.A.; Irene Scruggs; Viola Mary Dinkel; Melinda Griebel; Viola Richmeier; Sr. Paul Ann Dinkel C.S.A.; and Rita Rohr; her four brothers, Hilarious Dinkel; Clarence Dinkel; Edward Dinkel; and George Dinkel; and her two great grandchildren, &nbsp;Lakin Younker and Olivia Mayans.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, &nbsp;November 5, 2022, at Our Lady Help of Christians&nbsp; Catholic&nbsp;Church, Antonino with Fr. Harvey Dinkel O.F.M. Cap and Fr.&nbsp;Curtis Carlson O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial will be at Our&nbsp;Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Antonino.&nbsp;

A vigil service and&nbsp;an Antonino Christian Mothers&nbsp;rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Friday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd&nbsp;Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Rolland E. Werner, age 89, passed away on October 29, 2022, at Manor 
of the Plains, Dodge City, Kansas. Rolland was born in Scott City, 
Kansas on May 3, 1933, to Norbert and Peggy (Andra) Werner. He graduated 
from Dodge City Senior High School in 1951.&nbsp; Rolland proudly served 11 
years in the United States Army and Army Reserve, achieving the rank of 
Sergeant Major.&nbsp; He earned an accounting degree from Fort Hays State 
University in 1964.&nbsp; His work centered in the agri-business field, with 
most of his career spent as general manager of the Ford County Feed 
Yard.&nbsp;

Rolland married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lizer on July 21, 
1956.&nbsp; Betty died on August 29, 2002.&nbsp; They had two daughters, Ann and 
Kathy. Kathy died on January 6, 2005.&nbsp; Rolland married Delores Stucker 
on October 25, 2003.&nbsp; She died on June 7, 2015.&nbsp;

Rolland was proud to be from western Kansas.&nbsp; He served as city 
councilman and mayor of Dodge City from 2002 to 2004.&nbsp; He was an active 
member of Sacred Heart Cathedral and Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe,
 serving as an usher, Eucharistic Minister and on the finance council.&nbsp; 
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; Rolland served on the 
Board of Directors for the Farmers State Bank of Bucklin, KS for 31 
years.&nbsp; Rolland served as a Hospice volunteer for 11 years.&nbsp; It was 
organization dear to Rolland’s heart.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rolland was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Betty and 
Delores, brother Russell, sisters, Adell and Mary, and daughter, Kathy.&nbsp;
 Survivors include his daughter, Ann (Quinby) Henderson, grandsons, Nate
 (Nila) Henderson and Andrew (Emily Clinton) Henderson, and 5 great 
grandchildren; stepdaughter, Marsha Hedlund, stepson Dan (Kim) Stucker, 
step granddaughters Brooke (Heath) Unruh and Dani (Jose) Leon and step 
grandson Reid Hedlund and 5 step great grandchildren; brothers - Richard
 (Kathy) Werner and Kenneth Werner and sister Becky Werner.&nbsp;

Rolland lived a full and thankful life.&nbsp; He loved his family, 
considering his brothers not only his siblings, but his best friends.&nbsp; 
He cherished being Uncle Rolland to numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; His 
greatest joy was being grandpa and great grandpa to all his 
grandchildren.

A Celebration of Rolland’s Life will be held at 6:00 pm Friday, 
November 11, 2022, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.&nbsp; A rosary will 
be held at 9:30 am Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the Cathedral of Our 
Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City.&nbsp; Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am 
Saturday at the church with Fr. Ted Skalsky presiding.&nbsp; Inurnment will 
follow in Scroggins Mausoleum at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. There
 will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Friends may sign

Jodi Lynn Brummer, 64, passed away at Salina Regional Medical Center surrounded by family on&nbsp;October 28 th 2022.

Born September 17th , 1958, in Osborne, Kansas, she was the daughter of Charles and June&nbsp;(Sellers) Johnson.

Jodi
 will always be remembered for her cooking, cow trucking, various 
travels, boisterous laugh,&nbsp;kind soul, DIY projects, and her love for 
taking care of others.

Jodi is survived by her 2 kids, Terry Brummer of Osborne, Kansas, Courtney (Steven)Porter of Beatrice, Nebraska, and her Fiancé’, Dale Quillen of Osborne, Kansas. She is also survived by 4 grandkids, Abbey Luedders, Manhattan, Kansas, Denton Luedders, Sutton, Nebraska, Maverick Luedders, Herkimer, Kansas, and Gunner Brummer, Osborne, Kansas, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leon Brummer, parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

It is with great sorrow that the family of Brett Allen Sims announces his death on October 21, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. 
He is survived by his wife Stacy, and daughters Ava, Elle, and Lillian. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wight and Lillian Sims, sister,
 Linda Sims, and spouse Linda Jane Giordano. 
Brett was born in Oakley, Kansas, on October 29, 1965, to Wight and 
Lillian Sims. He grew up on the family farm north of Oakley and attended
 Oakley Schools, graduating from Oakley High School in 1984. He loved 
playing sports at OHS, but basketball was his favorite. Brett attended 
Kansas State University, earning an engineering degree. 
Brett has lived and worked in Texas since 2000. He married Stacy Guthrie
 on August 10, 2014. They had made their home in Blanco, Texas, since 
2020. Brett was a proud “Girl Dad” and was an active presence in the 
lives of his three daughters coaching them in softball, basketball, and 
the art of living.

Brett was a beloved father, husband, and brother. His
 cheerful, openhearted presence was felt by everyone where he worked and
 played. Brett will be greatly missed. 
A Celebration of Life is planned for November 12, 2022, in Blanco, Texas.

Lillian Sims. He grew up on the family farm north of Oakley and attended
 Oakley Schools, graduating from Oakley High School in 1984. He loved 
playing sports at OHS, but basketball was his favorite. Brett attended 
Kansas State University, earning an engineering degree. 
Brett has lived and worked in Texas since 2000. He married Stacy Guthrie
 on August 10, 2014. They had made their home in Blanco, Texas, since 
2020. Brett was a proud “Girl Dad” and was an active presence in the 
lives of his three daughters coaching them in softball, basketball, and 
the art of living. Brett was a beloved father, husband, and brother. His
 cheerful, openhearted presence was felt by everyone where he worked and
 played. Brett will be greatly missed. 
A Celebration of Life is planned for November 12, 2022, in Blanco, Texas.

Ronald Roy Higerd was born March 31, 1939, on his grandparents’ farm 
east of Gem, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Arthur
 and Ruth Leone (Goin) Higerd. He entered his eternal home with Jesus, 
on October 31, 2022, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby KS. 
Ron married his childhood sweetheart, Norma Lee Rikoff, of Colby, on 
August 31, 1958, in Gem, KS. They have 5 children; Myron (Brenda) of 
Park City, KS, Wm Lynn (Tammy) of Colby, KS; Kent (Janet) of Colby, KS; 
Roxan (Scott) Temaat of Haysville, KS and Kaylene (David) Deware, 
Atchison, KS. Ron and Norma are very proud to have 13 grandchildren: 
Adam, William, Benjamin, Karen, Angela, Valerie, Bryan, Priscilla, 
Megan, Aaron, Michael, Hannah, and Cristi. They also have 23 
great-grandchildren. 
Ron was in the National Guard in both Kansas and Colorado from May 1956 
until July 1964. He received his associates degree in Diesel Mechanics 
from Pueblo Junior College and worked for a few years in that field. Ron
 loved working the land and turning over the dirt that God entrusted to 
him and spent the rest of his years farming. 
Ron was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Gem and later 
the First Baptist Church of Colby. Ron loved to sing! He sang in the 
school choir, the college men’s group, the church choir and was the 
church song leader for many years. Even when Alzheimer’s ravaged his 
mind, he could still sing the hymns he loved so much. 
Visitation will be on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 5- 7:00 PM at The 
Gathering Place, 745 Country Club Drive, Colby, KS. His celebration of 
life service will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Baalmann 
Mortuary, 190 S Franklin, Colby, KS. Burial will follow at the Gem 
Cemetery, Gem, KS. There will be a time of fellowship with family and 
friends after the burial at the Community Building in Gem.

Ruth G. (Goodwin) Marcotte, age 96 of Victoria, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Kingman Healthcare Center, Kingman, Kansas. &nbsp;

She was born April 8, 1926, in Concordia, Kansas, to Glen H. and Gladys (Housholder) Goodwin. &nbsp;She married Lawrence Marcotte on August 9, 1948, in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her in death on October 21, 1972.

Ruth was a math teacher at Ellis High School for a few years, and then&nbsp;taught math&nbsp;at Victoria High School from 1971 to 1974. &nbsp;She grew up in Concordia, was a graduate of Concordia High School, and then&nbsp;received her teacher’s certificates from Kansas Wesleyan College. &nbsp;She was a receptionist at Dr. Joe Brungardt O.D. in Victoria, then was the treasurer for the City of Victoria until she retired. &nbsp;She enjoyed crocheting, baking, working on family genealogy, and keeping up&nbsp;with&nbsp;the kids and grandkids on&nbsp;hercomputer.

Survivors include her children, Michael Marcotte and wife, Holly, Madras, OR; Marilyn Traffas, Sharon, KS; Steve Marcotte and wife, Shirley, Gridley, KS;&nbsp;Stan Marcotte and wife, Maggie, Wichita, KS; Michelle Marcotte, Wichita, KS; Walter Marcotte and wife, Barb, Wichita, KS; her 19 grandchildren; and her 29 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents;&nbsp;her&nbsp;husband, Lawrence; her brother,&nbsp;Carol C. Goodwin; and her son-in-law, Brian Traffas.

George V. Dinkel, age 73, formerly of Brownell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at his home in Victoria, Kansas.

He was born September 7, 1949, in Hays, Kansas to Victor J. and Juliana
 M. (Rajewski).&nbsp; He married Velma (Unrein) on January 8, 1972, in Hays, 
Kansas.

He was a truck driver for National Carriers for over 20 years, and also
 was a farmer.&nbsp; He was a 1967 graduate of Ellis High School and was a 
member of Christ The King Catholic Church of WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a
 veteran of the US Army and moved to Victoria in the spring of this year
 from Brownell, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife Velma Dinkel, of the home; his children, 
John Dinkel and Chris Dixon, St. John’s, FL; Erin Rupp and husband 
Eugene, Victoria, KS; James Dinkel and wife, Annetta, Brownell, KS; his 
sisters, Judy Augustine and husband, Jeff, Hays, KS; Denice Fuller and 
husband, Mike, Concordia, KS; his grandchildren, Jacob Dinkel; Tyler 
Dinkel; Ethan Rupp; Emma Rae Rupp; his step grandchildren, Morgan Dixon;

Thomas Francis “Tom” Schippers,&nbsp;age&nbsp;67,&nbsp;of Wichita, Kansas,&nbsp;died&nbsp;Friday, October 28, 2022, at his home in Wichita.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born September 5, 1955, in Hays, Kansas, to John&nbsp;F.&nbsp;and Armella&nbsp;M.&nbsp;(Baier) Schippers.

He married Rosann Marie (Rajewski) on November&nbsp;22, 1980, in Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 1973 graduate of Victoria High School, and graduated&nbsp;with a business degree&nbsp;from National College of Business in Rapid City, South Dakota.&nbsp;&nbsp;He and Rosann moved to Wichita in 1981, where he&nbsp;was a Certified Public Accountant with an emphasis in auditing and consulting.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wichita.

Tom played baseball, basketball and softball.&nbsp;He enjoyed&nbsp;watching sports, especially the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs;&nbsp;playing card&nbsp;games, especially Pinochle and Hearts;&nbsp;Beatles music; and Snickers&nbsp;candy&nbsp;bars.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was also an avid&nbsp;fan&nbsp;of athletics at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, which his children attended&nbsp;in Wichita. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, of the home;&nbsp;his children,&nbsp;Jessica Schippers, Matthew&nbsp;Schippers, Lucas Schippers and wife, Sarah,&nbsp;his&nbsp;granddaughters, Mary&nbsp;Schippers&nbsp;and Ruth Schippers,&nbsp;all of&nbsp;Wichita, KS;&nbsp;his&nbsp;mother, Armella Schippers, Olathe, KS;&nbsp;a sister, Catherine Spikes&nbsp;(Kirk), Olathe, KS; two brothers, Daniel Schippers&nbsp;(Mary Kay), Victoria, KS; and John F.  </figure>Thomas Francis “Tom” Schippers,&nbsp;age&nbsp;67,&nbsp;of Wichita, Kansas,&nbsp;died&nbsp;Friday, October 28, 2022, at his home in Wichita.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born September 5, 1955, in Hays, Kansas, to John&nbsp;F.&nbsp;and Armella&nbsp;M.&nbsp;(Baier) Schippers.He married Rosann Marie (Rajewski) on November&nbsp;22, 1980, in Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 1973 graduate of Victoria High School, and graduated&nbsp;with a business degree&nbsp;from National College of Business in Rapid City, South Dakota.&nbsp;&nbsp;He and Rosann moved to Wichita in 1981, where he&nbsp;was a Certified Public Accountant with an emphasis in auditing and consulting.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wichita.Tom played baseball, basketball and softball.&nbsp;He enjoyed&nbsp;watching sports, especially the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs;&nbsp;playing card&nbsp;games, especially Pinochle and Hearts;&nbsp;Beatles music; and Snickers&nbsp;candy&nbsp;bars.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was also an avid&nbsp;fan&nbsp;of athletics at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, which his children attended&nbsp;in Wichita. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Survivors include his wife, of the home;&nbsp;his children,&nbsp;Jessica Schippers, Matthew&nbsp;Schippers, Lucas Schippers and wife, Sarah,&nbsp;his&nbsp;granddaughters, Mary&nbsp;Schippers&nbsp;and Ruth Schippers,&nbsp;all of&nbsp;Wichita, KS;&nbsp;his&nbsp;mother, Armella Schippers, Olathe, KS;&nbsp;a sister, Catherine Spikes&nbsp;(Kirk), Olathe, KS; two brothers, Daniel Schippers&nbsp;(Mary Kay), Victoria, KS; and John F. Schippers, Jr.&nbsp;(Bobbi), Hays, KS;&nbsp;and numerous&nbsp;aunts, uncles,&nbsp;nieces,&nbsp;nephews,&nbsp;and cousins.He was preceded in death by his father, John&nbsp;F. Schippers.Mass of Christian Burial will&nbsp;be&nbsp;at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November&nbsp;5, 2022, at&nbsp;the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas, with&nbsp;Father Drew Hoffman&nbsp;officiating and assisted by Deacon Dave Kisner. &nbsp;Burial will be at Saint Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, all at the Basilica of St. Fidelis.A vigil service and Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.
