NEW YORK — Puma, you’re all boxed in. Nike, what have you done 
to the U.S. and Canada? Adidas, you’re making a few style waves.

With millions at stake in retail sales, this year’s <a href="https://apnews.com/article/2022-world-cup-qatar-guide-88a1ff6f5776aae3fc4f16400a5a8a51">World Cup</a>
 in Qatar has soccer fans playing rate the shirt — and what to buy. So 
far, there’s no runaway winner that just might earn icon status like the
 sold-out-in-minutes <a href="https://apnews.com/article/world-cup-north-america-international-soccer-sports-asia-sports-2a1852fa95f346428bd550f8388045bf">bright green and chevron jersey of Nigeria</a> during the last tournament in 2018.

Which kits definitely <a href="https://apnews.com/article/soccer-sports-united-states-international-world-cup-cba3160a820d798988ddddc2371cd376">don't dazzle</a>
 in the eyes of some hardcore fans — and a few outspoken players? Nike's
 effort for the U.S. team, which didn't qualify four years ago. An 
enlarged, simple country crest sits at the center on white home shirts 
perceived as bland, as opposed to classic. Nike relocated its swoosh 
logo to both sleeves.

A blue graphic at the neck has led to 
mocking comparisons to the Stay Puft marshmallow man of “Ghostbusters" 
fame. And the U.S. away kit features ice-dyed black Rorschach blotches 
against royal blue.

“It's ugly,” said 33-year-old fan Ryan Bender of the former. “The away ones look like training jerseys.”

Bender
 is a lifelong soccer player, youth coach and jersey collector in Los 
Angeles. He had few niceties in general for many of the kits of the big 
three outfitters: Nike (13 countries), Adidas (7) and Puma (6). That's 
especially so for the array of front boxes, shields and other containers
 where numbers will go courtesy of Puma on away kits for Senegal, 
Morocco, Uruguay and more.

There's particular ire for Puma over 
the QR code-like symbol of Switzerland. The idea overall, Puma said, was
 to highlight player numbers. It has also been likened among the grumpy 
to the iPhone calendar icon.

“There’s a lot of lack of creativity 
there. And to be honest, a lot of them just look like jerseys you would 
find in a roadside shop,” Bender said of Puma's kits.

While Bender
 has some favorites, and he isn't alone when it comes to derision for 
the U.S. shirts, not everybody is a hater in the every-four-years World 
Cup sweepstakes over shirts. The top three companies are joined by six 
other brands with one country each. Nike, Puma and Adidas have made the 
use of recycled materials a priority.

“The Nike and Puma kits are 
stunning,” said Aron Solomon, 55, in Montreal. “Nike did such a great 
job bringing clean lines and just the right shade of colors. Case in 
point is the Qatar home Jersey."

He was referring to the host's 
maroon kit with a serrated line of white triangles trimming sleeves in a
 design evoking the country's flag. Think shark's teeth.

Denmark 
took a bite out of Qatar when it unveiled a black jersey to go with two 
other kits. The black shirts, with maker Hummel's logo faded out, honor 
migrant workers who died during construction work for the tournament.

As
 for his own country, Canada, Solomon is unbothered that the rejuvenated
 Les Rouges will take the pitch for their first World Cup appearance in 
36 years wearing the same template-based kits they've had since June 
2021. The shirts are traditional red and white with a crest featuring a 
maple leaf.

Like a few U.S. players who speak publicly about their kits, Canada defender Sam Adekugbe is disappointed.

“I
 just feel like every team should get a new kit for the World Cup 
because it’s a symbolic event. I don’t hate it, but I would have liked 
to have gotten a new kit, just because it’s something to cherish,” he 
told The Athletic.

Nike cites a different design cycle for Canada as the reason the country is going without.

Solomon
 has no love for Adidas-designed shirts, particularly the home jerseys 
of powerhouse Germany, where he lived for four years. It features a 
fierce wide black vertical stripe down the center against a white 
background in homage to the country's 1908 home shirt.

“It looks like they’re wearing a bib,” he said.

The
 Adidas shirts for four-time World Cup champs Germany, along with 
Argentina, Mexico and the other countries it outfitted, include the 
company's signature triple-line trim on the shoulders in various colors.
 Sort of like sporty epaulets.

Perhaps the most polarizing kit of 
the competition is the away look for Mexico, which some consider too 
flashy and others think will endure like Nigeria's shirts the last time 
around. The creamy white kit has an all-over red design of Mixtec art 
outlines in celebration of Mexico's fighting spirit. There's a nod on 
the inside back collar to the pre-Columbian deity Quetzalcoatl (so named
 by the Aztecs), aka the Feathered Serpent.

“They're my most 
favorite of the whole tournament,” said mega soccer fan Khloe Lewis, 27,
 in Somerville, Massachusetts. “I like the pattern and the contrast, but
 also that it's inspired by historic, traditional Mexican design.”

As a hot topic, debate over World Cup kits often churns among fans yearning for a jersey identity of their own.

“Kits
 get to the emotions. They're something that’s very close to people’s 
hearts and it makes them very, very vocal about them,” said Mateo 
Kossman, a senior product manager on the Adidas soccer apparel team who 
worked on Mexico's shirts.

Come Nov. 20, when the World Cup 
begins, soccer will dominate at the sports bar Das Beer Garden in 
Jupiter, Florida. Growing up in Caracas, 44-year-old co-owner Alex 
Marquez began playing the Beautiful Game in first grade. He roots for 
the U.S., Venezuela and Spain, the latter his parents' home country.

Marquez
 is pleased with Spain's classic home jersey in red from Adidas, worn 
with navy shorts and socks. The away kit — the aways being generally 
more adventurous — is another story. It has light blue swirls with faint
 digital lines on a white background and the country's bright red and 
yellow flag colors for the shoulder stripes in a grand show of 
disharmony.

“It's like the thing that goes around a baby's crib,” Marquez said of the swirls.

The blog Four On Four called the look exquisite, dubbing the wavy design a “geometric jellyfish pattern.”

Argentina
 switched it up, color wise, for its away shirts. Adidas rolled out a 
classic white and blue stripe home kit but veered for the first time in 
the country's history to a vibrant purple for the away jersey. It 
depicts the Sun of May and its long rays from the country's flag, though
 the rays and a background design look like flames. The purple is meant 
to represent gender equality, and overall diversity and inclusion. And 
the Adidas triple lines on the shoulders match!

How has the purple played among World Cup fans?

“Like
 everything we create, it’s important that the story is understood and 
told," said Andrew Dolan, an Adidas senior product manager who worked on
 the Argentina shirts. “I think everyone appreciates what we’re trying 
to do.”

At 10, Zain Ennaoui is a small fan with big opinions on 
soccer shirts. Of the new purple for Argentina, which has some soccer 
buffs rattled, the Brooklyn fifth-grader said politely, “It's good in 
its own way.”

Zain supports Morocco, where his dad is from, but 
he, too, loves Mexico's away extravaganza. He gets that most of the 
shirts among the 32 countries headed to Qatar have cultural meaning. 
That said, South Korea's away kit of many colors (black with yellow, 
blue and red brush strokes) is a tough sell for him, despite its nod to 
Taegeukgi, the symbol on the country's flag.

“It's like someone thought it was a good idea to get a paint gun and spray it all over the place. It did not work,” Zain said.

It's
 a toss up on which look for the U.S. is more roundly despised by 
critics. The soccer-obsessed site Footy Headlines rated Canada's tragedy
 at the bottom among Nike's efforts. The U.S. shirts were second to 
last.

“It looks like you'd wear it to a Grateful Dead concert,” 
said Kent Gethmann, 38, in Spencer, Iowa, of the blue and black away 
shirt.

That, the idea of lending street life to World Cup wear, might just be the point.

“I'd rock it,” Brandon Williams said of the same U.S. kit.

He's a Los Angeles menswear stylist for celebrities and star athletes, though no soccer players yet.

“I'd
 wear it oversized with some hoochie daddy shorts (they're really 
short), some clean white Nike Air Force Ones and a backward snapback," 
Williams said. "I'd throw a sweater over my shoulders like Carlton from 
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and I'm ready for Sunday brunch."

World Cup jerseys get mixed reviews ahead of Qatar

NEW YORK (AP) — Prince Harry's memoir, an object of obsessive anticipation worldwide since first announced last year, is coming out Jan. 10.

The book will be called “Spare” and is being billed by Penguin Random House, as an account told with “raw, unflinching honesty" and filled with ”insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”

In a statement released Thursday, Penguin Random House summoned memories of the stunning death in 1997 of Prince Harry's mother, Diana, and of Harry and his brother, William, “walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow — and horror.”

“As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling — and how their lives would play out from that point on,” the statement reads in part.

“For Harry, this is his story at last.”

The memoir's title is an apparent reference to Prince Harry's being a royal “spare,” not the first in line to succession. William, Prince of Wales, is next in line.

The 416-page book will come out in 16 languages, from Dutch to Portuguese, and also will be released in an audio edition read by Prince Harry. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Harry, the Duke of Sussex, will be using proceeds from “Spare” to donate to British charities. He has already given $1.5 million to Sentebale, an organization he co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS.

Penguin Random House identifies Prince Harry as “a husband, father, humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist.”

Royals watchers and the public at large have speculated endlessly since the book was first announced in July 2021, billed as “intimate and heartfelt” and tentatively scheduled for this year.

The Duke of Sussex had already revealed a news-making willingness to discuss his private life when he and his American-born wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, were interviewed for a March 2021 broadcast by their neighbor in Santa Barbara, California, Oprah Winfrey. The couple spoke of Meghan's deep unhappiness with her new life in England, the alleged racism within the royal family and Harry's fear that his wife's life might be endangered had they remained in his native country.

In 1992, Diana worked with author Andrew Morton on her explosive memoir “Diana: Her True Story,” in which she described at length her unhappy marriage to the future King Charles, Harry's father.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to the U.S. Harry told Winfrey that his family cut him off financially and that he helped pay for his security with money left to him by his mother. They have launched numerous initiatives, including a Netflix production deal and the “impact-driven non-profit” Archewell Foundation.

The book's delay led to rumors that Harry was hesitating to say too much about his family, or was perhaps revising the narrative after his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in September. He has spoken of being estranged from his brother, William, although the siblings and their wives appeared in public together during the mourning period following the Queen's death.

(AP) — The rapper formerly known as Kanye West was escorted out of the California-based headquarters of athletic shoemaker Skechers after he showed up unannounced Wednesday, a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/adidas-ends-kanye-west-partnership-7425f65ea39f7bbdd02d0e033d9be4b8">day after Adidas ended its partnership</a>&nbsp;with the artist following his antisemitic remarks.

The Grammy winner, who legally changed his name to Ye, “arrived unannounced and without invitation” at Skechers corporate headquarters in Manhattan Beach, southwest of Los Angeles, the company said.

“Considering Ye was engaged in unauthorized filming, two Skechers executives escorted him and his party from the building after a brief conversation," according to a company statement.

BANGKOK (AP) — A Thai business tycoon and transgender activist has purchased the Miss Universe Organization for $20 million, her company announced Wednesday.

Chakrapong “Anne” Chakrajutathib, who controls JKN Global Group Public Co. Ltd., is a celebrity in Thailand who has starred in reality shows and is outspoken about being a transgender woman. She helped establish a nonprofit group, Life Inspired For Transsexual Foundation, to promote trans rights.

JKN said it acquired the rights to the Miss Universe pageant from IMG Worldwide LLC, a sports, talent and events marketing company which has held the Miss Universe Organization since 2015. Former U.S. President Donald Trump was part owner of the pageant rights from 1996 until IMG’s purchase.

JKN said it has established a subsidiary in the United States, JKN Metaverse Inc., to own the Miss Universe Organization. The Miss Universe pageant is broadcast in 165 countries, according to IMG.

In a statement, Chakrapong described the purchase as "a strong, strategic addition to our portfolio.” JKN, which is involved in content distribution, beverages, food supplements, beauty and consumer products, said the Miss Universe name will be used to promote its consumer products.

A profile of Chakrapong in the Bangkok Post newspaper earlier this year said in her youth, she studied at an all-male school where she was harassed for identifying as female. After attaining financial success, she spent 40 million baht ($1 million) on sex reassignment surgery and other procedures, the newspaper reported.

The Salina Symphony will present an afternoon of “Romance” on Nov. 6.

Under the baton of Music Director Yaniv Segal, the symphony is scheduled to perform at 4 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Stiefel Theatre, 151 S. Santa Fe Avenue.

The concert will feature something for everyone, beginning with the gripping melodrama of Tchaikovsky’s&nbsp;Romeo and Juliet&nbsp;followed by reflective yet driving music from Gabriel Prokofiev’s genre-defying crossover album,&nbsp;Breaking Screens. After intermission, the audience will experience a romantic musical journey with&nbsp;Symphony in Scenes: Skychange, a four-movement work based on music Maestro Segal wrote for his wedding.

London-based DJ and composer Gabriel Prokofiev, grandson of Sergei Prokofiev, will join the symphony as guest artist. Composing music that both embraces and challenges western classical traditions, Prokofiev has emerged as a significant voice in new approaches to classical music at the beginning of the 21st century.

Prokofiev has built up a large body of orchestral and chamber works and has composed seven concertos (three featuring turntables) as well as many electronic works, often combining synthesizers and samples with classical instrumentation. His works have been performed internationally by orchestras including Seattle Symphony,

Detroit Symphony, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Moscow State Symphony and BBC Philharmonic, among many others.

Prokofiev is also an events curator, producer and founder of the Nonclassical record label and club night, home to a host of artists who defy conventions. Through Nonclassical, he has been one of the leading proponents of presenting classical music in non-traditional venues.

While the holiday focus is currently on organizing costumes and making sure you have enough candy, staff with the Great Bend Public Lands Department is getting ready to have a bright Christmas. Preparation for displaying the Christmas light decorations around town will begin near Halloween, to give city staff enough time to have them ready for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Public Lands Director Scott Keeler said it takes his staff between three to four weeks to make repairs to light fixtures, display the holiday decorations and add any new pieces. Turning Great Bend into a “Christmas city” has taken on much more responsibility compared to when Keeler first started working for the city. "I remember we had some old decorations up and down Main Street, and a few lights around the courthouse," said Keeler. "It used to be flood lights that we would put by the pillars. We pretty much relied on Christmas Fantasy Village down south. There really wasn't too much and it took about a week to put up." A massive amount of lights and displays are now featured at Veterans Memorial Park, Barton County Courthouse and Brit Spaugh Park. The new .15% quality of life sales tax this year has allocated funds to Christmas light decorations to make repairs and bring in additions. Keeler said there will be more motion displays this year. "As far as lighting in different areas, are hands are tied a little bit," said Keeler. "At the present time, we only have so much electricity and availability in the area. We have to stay near to those points because we have to have power to run them." The lights will go on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to coincide with the Home for the Holidays Festival and Parade.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

The company faced pressure to cut ties with Ye, with celebrities and others on social media urging Adidas to act. It said at the beginning of the month that it was placing its lucrative sneaker deal with the rapper under review.

Adidas said Tuesday that it conducted a “thorough review" and would immediately stop production of its line of Yeezy products and stop payments to Ye and his companies. The sportswear company said it was expected to take a hit of up to 250 million euros ($246 million) to its net income this year from the move.

The Hays Art Center is featuring three exhibits now through Nov. 22.

"Intuitive" features the work of former Fort Hays State University art instructor Kathleen Kuchar and Ron Michael, FHSU grad and director of the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg.

Meder said she thought the energy and process of both artists is very similar.

Kuchar's art consists of large color abstract canvasses. Whereas Michael's pieces are earthenware pots and sculptures using wood, stone and metal.

"When you look at some of the patterning and shapes and that organic and very intuitive style, from the title, this is something they both have," Brenda Meder, Hays Arts Center director, said. "I love the way it works together."

Michael's sculptures, vessels and disks are inspired by surfaces, forms, and other stuff found in nature. When creating pieces, he embraces an organic quality, weathered aesthetic, imperfection, texture, asymmetry, sense of mystery and humor, he said in his artist's statement.

"You can see his shapes are very of the earth and organic," Meder said.

His ceramic pieces include a high percentage of Kansas clay formed using hand-built or wheel-thrown techniques. He often brushes or sifts a colored Mason stain on the wet clay to add differing colors.

"Intuitive&nbsp;is the perfect title for this show," Kuchar said in her artist's statement. "That’s how I work!  Typically, I start out with a general idea and let it go from there.

"The work takes on a life of its own as I add, subtract and make changes. When to stop is the question. Usually, the painting tells me it is finished when the colors work together, the shapes are just right, and I like the way it looks."

&nbsp;Kuchar is also a member of the Society of Layerist in Multi-Media, and pieces created by her and other society members for the "About Trees" project are also on display at the art center in the gallery hallway.

Thirty-three small canvases from Kansas and regional members are on display. As the title indicates, all of the artists have depicted trees on small canvases in different ways.

The purpose of the society is to serve as a network for artists who express a holistic perspective, in which everything relates to everything else, across time and space. Layered art can be done in any medium, but it shares a unifying intention, according to the society.

Konnor Splichal, senior in ceramics at FHSU, is exhibiting "Beyond Dusk," his BFA exhibition in the art center's rear gallery.

In addition to ceramic vessels, Splichal has created several electrified pieces from small table lamps, to hanging fixtures, to 3-foot tall luminaries.

Splichal, who is a Thomas More Prep-Marian graduate, said in his artists statement "By exploring the connection between ceramics and interior design, I see how they affect our everyday lives. Bringing both natural and man-made elements into my work, I form relationships between nature and fine art."

The subtle contrast of color and light reflect the Kansas landscape, he said.

"I strive to remind my audience of the world around them, as well as the natural beauty that God has created in his eyes," Splichal said.

"Intuitive" features the work of former Fort Hays State University art instructor Kathleen Kuchar and Ron Michael, FHSU grad and director of the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg.Meder said she thought the energy and process of both artists is very similar. Kuchar's art consists of large color abstract canvasses. When creating pieces, he embraces an organic quality, weathered aesthetic, imperfection, texture, asymmetry, sense of mystery and humor, he said in his artist's statement.<figure>

 </figure>"You can see his shapes are very of the earth and organic," Meder said. His ceramic pieces include a high percentage of Kansas clay formed using hand-built or wheel-thrown techniques. He often brushes or sifts a colored Mason stain on the wet clay to add differing colors."Intuitive&nbsp;is the perfect title for this show," Kuchar said in her artist's statement. "That’s how I work! Typically, I start out with a general idea and let it go from there."The work takes on a life of its own as I add, subtract and make changes. When to stop is the question. Usually, the painting tells me it is finished when the colors work together, the shapes are just right, and I like the way it looks."<figure>

 </figure><h2>'About Trees'</h2>&nbsp;Kuchar is also a member of the Society of Layerist in Multi-Media, and pieces created by her and other society members for the "About Trees" project are also on display at the art center in the gallery hallway.Thirty-three small canvases from Kansas and regional members are on display. As the title indicates, all of the artists have depicted trees on small canvases in different ways. The purpose of the society is to serve as a network for artists who express a holistic perspective, in which everything relates to everything else, across time and space. Layered art can be done in any medium, but it shares a unifying intention, according to the society.<figure>

 </figure><h2>'Beyond Dusk'</h2>Konnor Splichal, senior in ceramics at FHSU, is exhibiting "Beyond Dusk," his BFA exhibition in the art center's rear gallery.In addition to ceramic vessels, Splichal has created several electrified pieces from small table lamps, to hanging fixtures, to 3-foot tall luminaries.Splichal, who is a Thomas More Prep-Marian graduate, said in his artists statement "By exploring the connection between ceramics and interior design, I see how they affect our everyday lives. Bringing both natural and man-made elements into my work, I form relationships between nature and fine art."The subtle contrast of color and light reflect the Kansas landscape, he said.<figure>

He counts numbers by day and wood chips by night. For nearly 25 years, Great Bend accountant Barry Bowers has been chipping away at wood blocks as part of a wood carving hobby. Last week, Bowers learned he had won two first-place prizes, and a second place, in the Canada-based Richmond Carvers Society contest that featured 116 carvers from 12 countries. The 2022 contest was a virtual one, and carvers were allowed to submit two photos of a piece in a given category.

"Their competition was a little unique because it was single human," Bowers explained. "A lot of times it's caricature human and realistic human. In this particular show, everything was kind of pushed together, so that made it a little more challenging."

Bowers fell into the hobby by accident when a friend goaded him into signing up for an instructional class at the Great Bend Recreation Commission more than two decades ago.

"Jack June is a good friend of mine, and he was the instructor," said Bowers. "He kept badgering me, telling me I needed to try it because it's so relaxing. I didn't really believe him, but it turned out to be true."

Bowers kept chipping away at the hobby, improving his work with a class or two each year. He began entering competitions about six years ago and found a new side to the hobby.

"It's gotten to be more fun," he said. "It can be more competitive, and I feel like the results are a little better. There's still a long way to go. There are people way better than me, for sure, but I feel like I'm in the middle of the pack at least."

There is endless variety in woodcarving, from the type of wood used to the subject of the art. Bowers prefers caricature art, and enjoys the wide variety of looks Santa offers.

"Some people describe it as exaggerated or cartoonish, but it's just not realistic," he said. "I do a fair amount of Santas. Santa is kind of fun to do because he can be about anything, really. I enjoy caricature. For me, I enjoy the humor, and you can usually tell a story with a carving, whether it's a group or how the expressions are."

Some artists number their carvings though Bowers never has. Still, he estimates he produces between 15-20 carvings annually. His chosen medium is northern basswood, usually purchased from Wisconsin. Even with aggressive carving, each piece takes approximately 15-20 hours from start to finish. Naturally, there has been some blood spilled along the way.

"I hadn't been carving very long, and I put a gouge in the side of my finger," Bowers recalled. "There's a really good hand surgeon in Hays, I found out at the time. I've had stitches more than once. I wear a glove on the hand I'm holding the carving with, which helps quite a bit. Doctors are always very impressed with how clean the cuts are. The tools are very sharp."

Bowers is part of the Golden Belt Wood Carvers that meet every Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the Great Bend Senior Center. Anyone is welcome to stop by to try their hand at the craft, or just to watch some of the more experienced carvers. The group even has a starter set for first-timers who might be interested in seeing the variety of work possible.

"There are all different kinds of carving," said Bowers. "That's why I enjoy carving, partially. There are realistic carvers, bird carvers, some people carve animals. There are just a million things they can do, so a person can find the wood and style they enjoy. Everybody helps everybody. There's a good social aspect to it."

The group tries to host a beginner's class at least once a year, and it plans to host a class with the Great Bend Public Library in January. Some of Bower's work - mostly Santas - can be purchased at Heart of Kansas Mercantile on Main Street in Great Bend.

They’re back...McDonald’s Halloween pails return with Happy Meals

Halloween will be here before you know it and with it comes a variety of activities for ghosts and goblins of all ages.

Smoky Hill Hollow Haunted House and Fire Safety House:&nbsp;Saline County Rural Fire District No. 3 will have its haunted house and fire safety house from 7:30-10 p.m. Oct. 21-22 and Oct. 28-29, at the 2911 N. Hedville Road fire station. A $5 per person donation is requested for the haunted house.

Outdoor Halloween Event at the Audubon Sanctuary:&nbsp;The Smoky Hills Audubon Society has scheduled its second annual old fashioned outdoor Halloween party from 4:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 22, at the Audubon Sanctuary, 2500 W. Stimmel Road.

Go all dressed up in your favorite costumes for outdoor Halloween games and pumpkin carving. Hayrack rides through the sanctuary and hiking trails for the adventurous will be available. As dusk falls over the sanctuary, a spooky woodland scary trail will await the adventurous. Costume judging will be at 6 p.m. with trophies awarded to more than 15 winners.

Halloween Haunted House:&nbsp;The Lakewood Discovery Center in Salina invites you to its haunted house of nature horrors. Enter if you dare, explore our natural world of creepy crawly critters, carve a pumpkin, and if you have enough gumption you can try to survive our cave of doom and Halloween demise. We will have witch's brew and rotten snacks to try if you DARE!

Spooky Nights Haunted Trail in Lorraine:&nbsp;The trail is located next to the city park at 234 Main Street, and will be open 6-11 p.m. Oct. 28-29.&nbsp;The trail is free of charge, but a free will donation will be available to support local fire fighters. Participants are more than welcome to wear&nbsp; Halloween costume. Candy will be given out to kids.&nbsp;For questions feel free to call Justin at (620) 282- 8147.&nbsp;

Cops &amp; Costumes:&nbsp;The Salina Police Department and Saline County Sheriff's Office will participate in the annual Cops &amp; Costumes from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 29 in the parking lot outside their offices at 255 N. 10th Street in Salina. Organized by the Salina Police Department, the event will include treats and fun for children.

Salina Parks &amp; Rec Halloween Party:&nbsp;1-4 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Salina Fieldhouse, 140 N. Fifth Street. They are scheduled to have trick or treating, a costume contest, carnival games, and bounce houses.

Tractor-Treat:&nbsp;The Kansas Tractor Club and Atwood's Home and Ranch will have a Tractor-Treat from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 29 in the parking lot of Atwood's, 400 S. Broadway Boulevard in Salina. Treats and trailer rides are scheduled.

Trunks &amp; Treats:&nbsp;Revolution Church, 1111 W. South Street in Salina, plans to have a Trunks &amp; Treats event from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 30.

Trunk or treat and chicken noodle dinner:&nbsp;The United Methodist Church of the Cross, 1600 Rush Street in Salina, plans to have a trunk or treat and an optional chicken noodle dinner from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 30. The suggested donation for the chicken noodle dinner is $10 for adults and $7 for children.

Trunk or Treat at Salina Tech:&nbsp;Salina Area Technical College, 2562 Centennial Road in Salina, is scheduled to have its second annual Trunk or Treat from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 31 on campus.

Children of all ages are invited to come out, get some treats and enjoy the displays created by the students, faculty, and staff. People attending will get to vote for their favorite display.
