The Kansas Legislature&nbsp;is a program that takes place during the legislative session and gives the legislators and viewers the opportunity to discuss up-to-date issues.&nbsp; During the program, viewers can call 1-800-337-4788 with their legislative questions.&nbsp;

Becky Kiser, News Reporter for Hays Post/Eagle Radio, has been named the moderator for the 2024 season of&nbsp;The Kansas Legislature.&nbsp; She will be joined by two or three legislators during each show.

LOGAN - Need a place to stash your red or white? The Hansen Museum will host a Basket Weaving class with Instructor Marsha Jensen of Manhattan, Kansas, on Saturday, April 20th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Hansen Museum Community Room, 110 W. Main, Logan, KS 67646.

In this workshop you will weave a basket with a divider that holds 2 bottles of wine. This basket uses a D handle that becomes part of the basket structure. There will be dyed reed available in a variety of colors for those who wish to include a color accent. A natural black walnut dip will be available as a finishing touch for your basket at the end of the class.

The cost to attend is $85 with discounts available for Patron &amp; Sustaining Museum Members. Registrations are non-refundable. Honoring the late co-founder of the Deines Cultural Center’s monthly jam session, a special “Pickin’ at the Deines” event is being held this month on March 17th. The 3rd Annual Ronn Raymer Memorial Jam will begin at 3 pm on Sunday, March 17th at the Center at 820 N. Main in Russell with the traditional pot luck supper served at 5 pm followed by more music. Participants are encouraged to bring their acoustic instrument(s), their voice, a listening ear, and a food dish to share.

Beginning with the Frances Giebler Fiddle Fest in 2003, Raymer and Bob Roe of Russell, JF Stover of Hill City, and Nancy Selbe, former director of the DCC began the sessions as a meeting and sharing of regional musicians. Sessions have been attended by professional and amateur musicians from Colorado, Kansas City, Hill City, Great Bend, Osborne, Plainville, Jetmore, Garden City, Sterling, Hays, Memphis and more.

Raymer was a consistent participant, leader and promoter of the jam sessions providing vocals and playing guitar, auto-harp, washboard and ukulele. His presence will be included at the memorial session with videos shared by his family and family members will be attending.

BUNKER HILL, KS – The history series&nbsp;Cottonwood Connections&nbsp;is back for season four with host Don Rowlison.&nbsp; The half-hour docu-series airs on Smoky Hills PBS at&nbsp;6 p.m.&nbsp;Central Time on Sundays starting March 17.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rebroadcasts of each episode will air on Fridays at 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 6 p.m.

This season the show travels to various locations across Kansas including the Home on the Range cabin, one-room school houses, Historic Fort Hays, the Smoky Hill Trail, and much more.

"We are excited to be presenting another season of topics that share the rich, unique and sometimes challenging story of our state and region to Smoky Hills PBS,” said Ed Lowry, Cottonwood Connections Creator. &nbsp;“Don Rowlison brings a wealth of knowledge to the series and is connected with so many other people that share their expertise&nbsp;and experience."

The series is hosted by Don Rowlison and presented by The Friends of Cottonwood Ranch, an organization that supports the work of the Cottonwood Ranch Historic site and has the mission of encouraging historical education about the plains.

Rowlison is an archeologist who specialized in studying the pre-historic people of the plains. In 1985, he became site curator for the Cottonwood Ranch Historic Site and devoted himself to studying all the various issues that impacted people settling the region in the late 1800s.&nbsp; Additionally, Don is himself, a cowboy and was inducted to the Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2008 as a historian.

Recent record-setting high temperatures in Hays have many people thinking of spring, including participants in the Downtown Hays Market, who are looking forward to the popular program's annual opening.

"Vendor registration officially opened March 1," said Julie Ryder, executive director of the Downtown Hays Development Corporation, "and we've been getting a lot of calls about how that registration process works."

The market opens Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 25, and will run weekly through October 19, 7:30-11:30 a.m.

The market debuted in 2013 and is now in its 11th year. Last year, it was voted the&nbsp;<a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/c9dcf8aa-4a97-4821-b756-50bcf96635cc">Best Market in Kansas</a> in the&nbsp;15th-annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration, sponsored by&nbsp;American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition.&nbsp;

"We're really blessed to have Ben Dome back for a third season as the market manager," she said. Dome is a local student whose position is made possible through the regional&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nex-generation.org/">NexGeneration Internship program</a>.

To participate in the 2024 market, potential vendors must read and sign the registration form. The four-page packet includes the market rules vendors must follow, details about what they'll be selling at the market, a copy of their Kansas sales tax registration certificate and their contact information.

"Some of our vendors drive from as far away as 80 miles to Hays," Ryder said, "arriving here just before daybreak."

Last year, the market had 63 vendors, selling everything from produce and locally raised meats to garden flowers and baked goods, plus lots of homemade crafts and gift items.

A $50 registration fee allows participation in all 22 weeks of the market. There is also an optional $50 reservation fee for the same spot&nbsp;each week in the downtown pavilion, 10th and Main, or adjacent parking areas.

"Many of our long-time vendors choose this option because it helps their customers know where to find them each week," Ryder said. "It has also created wonderful comradery among the vendors as they've gotten to know their neighbors."

The market is set up to accept SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)&nbsp;payments.&nbsp;

Customers may use their EBT cards to purchase tokens to use at vendors' booths to purchase eligible foods, including fresh produce, meat, eggs, honey, baked goods and dairy items.

Also available is another state assistance program, Double Up Food Bucks, allowing customers to match their SNAP purchases of up to $25. Tokens are then used to buy more fruits, vegetables and seed packets.&nbsp;

"Vendors who sell eligible food products can sign up with us to accept these forms of payment. When they accept those tokens as payment, they turn them back into us monthly, and we use a reporting process to the state for their reimbursement," she said.

Last year, it was voted the&nbsp;<a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/c9dcf8aa-4a97-4821-b756-50bcf96635cc">Best Market in Kansas</a> in the&nbsp;15th-annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration, sponsored by&nbsp;American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition.&nbsp;"We're really blessed to have Ben Dome back for a third season as the market manager," she said. Dome is a local student whose position is made possible through the regional&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nex-generation.org/">NexGeneration Internship program</a>.To participate in the 2024 market, potential vendors must read and sign the registration form. The four-page packet includes the market rules vendors must follow, details about what they'll be selling at the market, a copy of their Kansas sales tax registration certificate and their contact information."Some of our vendors drive from as far away as 80 miles to Hays," Ryder said, "arriving here just before daybreak."Last year, the market had 63 vendors, selling everything from produce and locally raised meats to garden flowers and baked goods, plus lots of homemade crafts and gift items.A $50 registration fee allows participation in all 22 weeks of the market. There is also an optional $50 reservation fee for the same spot&nbsp;each week in the downtown pavilion, 10th and Main, or adjacent parking areas."Many of our long-time vendors choose this option because it helps their customers know where to find them each week," Ryder said. "It has also created wonderful comradery among the vendors as they've gotten to know their neighbors."The market is set up to accept SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)&nbsp;payments.&nbsp;Customers may use their EBT cards to purchase tokens to use at vendors' booths to purchase eligible foods, including fresh produce, meat, eggs, honey, baked goods and dairy items.Also available is another state assistance program, Double Up Food Bucks, allowing customers to match their SNAP purchases of up to $25. Tokens are then used to buy more fruits, vegetables and seed packets.&nbsp;"Vendors who sell eligible food products can sign up with us to accept these forms of payment.
