USD 489 is out of session on Jan. 5 and Holy Family Elementary school 5th graders will attend as a school. HFE 5th grade families are already registered.

The future Monarchs will attend Mass, a welcome, and six sessions that show the variety and style of learning at TMP-Marian Junior High. Experience small class sizes and individual attention. The students will interact with current and future classmates and teachers, capping the day with lunch specially prepared by the legendary TMP-Marian kitchen. After lunch, students will attend a short closing, receive a special gift, and be released.

Parents can drop their students off at the northeast entrance of the main building as early as 7:15 a.m. Pick-up will be at noon in the same location.

Families interested in transportation due to work or some other conflict, can reach out to Mrs. Melissa Schoepf to arrange transportation - schoepfm@tmpmarian.org

TMP-Marian is open to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation, and it's more affordable than you may think! For example, a non-Catholic family with two children and makes $80,000 a year, would pay less than $3,000 per student. Cost can be spread out over a 9-month payment plan. If you make less money, the less you pay for a life-changing education.

The “Little Town of Bethlehem” nativity at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Vincent will be open for visitors Sunday Dec. 17th,  as well as Saturday Dec. 23, Sunday Dec. 24 and Christmas Day.  All times are 1-5pm.  Appointments can also be made at any other time by calling Carol at 735-9282.

This is the 97th year of the nativity, begun by the parish priest Fr. Callistus Rectenwald in 1927.  Over the years, the nativity has become a worldwide representation of Christmas.  Rocks from all 50 states and 105 countries surround the scene, in particular rocks from the Cave of Lourdes and the Sea of Galilee.  Infant Jesus is from Spain, and Mary, Joseph and the Three Kings are from Germany. A special section of the nativity is dedicated to our veterans who could not be home for Christmas over the years, featuring rocks from Germany, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Wake Island and Christmas Island to name a few. The nativity has had special lighting effects added the last few years - a color changing rock show and a neon blue-lit sky in the background.  Four trickling waterfalls,  animals and shepherds dot the scene surrounding the Bethlehem Inn, and the stable made from a nearby pear tree in 1927.

NW Kansas 4-H county fair judges sought; training Jan. 15 in Hays

The United Way of Ellis County and local partners will once again provide an opportunity to get into the holiday spirit for a good cause. The Strand Event Center will host a Holiday Pop Up Bar on Friday, December 15 from 5:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. at its location at 1102 Main Street.

The occasion will be a special one-night-only event with food, holiday-themed cocktails, special guests, white elephant gifts, and plenty of decorations and lights. Attendees will also enjoy holiday trivia provided by Hays Public Library.

Only 200 advance tickets will be for sale for $20 each. Tickets are available online in the United Way’s Facebook event “Holiday Pop Up Bar” or at the link&nbsp;<a href="https://bit.ly/3RxpJB7">https://bit.ly/3RxpJB7</a>.&nbsp;Tickets will be available for purchase at the door for $25.

“We are excited to partner again with the Hays CVB, The Strand, and Union Catering Company for this special event.&nbsp; This is a great way to get in the spirit of giving and celebrating,” said United Way of Ellis County director Erica Berges.

Dustin Roths, owner of The Fox Theatre, The Strand Event Center, and Diamond R Jewelry, is using his connections to help provide the venue, bartenders, and online ticket sales for the event.

United Way’s “Dine Out Days” raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event. Prizes include three restaurant gift card baskets, valued at over $300 each. Winners will be drawn on December 18.

As an additional fundraiser, Diamond R Jewelry has donated an item to raffle off during the event.

“We are thankful for all the help the United Way Board of Directors provides for our organization,” said Berges.

United Way board members will serve as hosts, checking tickets at the door, and decorating the venue prior to the event.

This is a 21 and over event, but non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Other activities include living history in the Barracks and Officers’ quarters, hot apple cider and popcorn in the Visitor Center, crafts and games for the kids, and demonstrations by the Fort’s blacksmith.&nbsp;

Please keep in mind that the event may be cancelled in the case of inclement weather.&nbsp;

Victoria Coalition to host Holiday Home Tours to benefit St. John's Place

A toy drive benefiting St. Francis Ministers will honor the memory of Carey and Scott Jordan.

Toys for children infant through 17 will be accepted through Dec. 15 at Matt Lynn State Far, 105 E. 27 St., Suite B, Hays.

Christmas toy drive to benefit foster care children in Ellis County

Area veterans and their families with a history of military service are invited to a discussion group on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Ellis County Museum, 7th and Main Street, Hays.

The meeting is hosted by The Society of 40 Men and 8 Horses, Voiture 1543, which manages the Kansas Merci Boxcar and Museum, and by the Ellis County Museum.&nbsp;

Matthew Conklin, a PhD candidate at the University of Chicago is researching the causes and consequences of military service across the United States.

His research examines why some locales have historically served at higher rates than other places, and the long-term effects of past wars on American community life.

Conklin will share information from his current findings that show how Ellis County compares to other parts of the country for military enlistments.

Questions that he would like attendees to review are:

• When and why did you decide to enter the military? Are there any important lessons you leaned while in the service that stick out to you? • Was there a history of military service in your family? • Did you know of anyone else who had served or ended up serving from your community? • How was your transition out of the service back into society? what is your sense of how veterans are treated in today's society compared to the past? • Could you describe your involvement with veterans organizations in your community? • What are some of the biggest issues your community has faced in the past? What about now and in the future? • What is the biggest issue you feel the country is facing today? • What are your thoughts about the U.S.'s involvement in world affairs? Is it too involved in world affairs or not involved enough and should do more? Or, is the U.S. doing about what it should be?

The Ellis County Public Works Road &amp; Bridge division is
announcing that a culvert repair project will be taking place in the 2100 block
of 140th Avenue. This area will be closed to traffic beginning at 12:00 p.m. on
Monday, December 4th, and will remain closed until the project is completed.
The expected completion date will be Tuesday, December 5th, pending weather
conditions.

A second culvert repair project will take place in the 2000
block of 140th Avenue.

This area will be closed to traffic beginning at 8:00 a.m.
on Wednesday, December 6th, and will remain closed until the project is
completed. The expected completion date is Friday, December 8th.

Motorists traveling in the affected closure areas should use
alternate routes of travel until the projects are complete. Please direct any

 </figure>KDHETOPEKA –&nbsp;The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a boil water advisory for the City of Lebanon public water supply system located in Smith County.&nbsp;&nbsp;Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:&nbsp;<ul>
 <li>Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.&nbsp;</li><li>Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.&nbsp;</li><li>If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.&nbsp;</li><li>Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.&nbsp;</li><li>Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.&nbsp;</li>
 </ul>The advisory took effect on&nbsp;December 3&nbsp;and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved.&nbsp;KDHE&nbsp;officials issued the advisory because&nbsp;of&nbsp;a loss of pressure. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Starting November 20, every U.S. household can again place an order to receive four more free COVID-19 rapid tests delivered directly to their home. If you didn’t order tests since the program reopened in September, the site will let you place two orders for a total of eight tests. Order your test kits through&nbsp;<a href="https://www.covid.gov/tests">COVIDtests.gov</a>. Orders will ship free starting the week of November 27, 2023.

The kits will include&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/coronavirus-covid-19-and-medical-devices/home-otc-covid-19-diagnostic-tests#list">instructions on how to verify extended expiration dates</a>.&nbsp;Many kits have had their expiration dates extended beyond what may be printed on the packaging.

You don’t have to pay for shipping, and you’ll never be asked for a credit card or bank account number. You only need to give a name and shipping address. If you’d like an email confirmation and delivery updates from the U.S. Postal Service, you can submit your email address.&nbsp;

Anyone who asks for more information than that is a scammer.&nbsp;So, remember:
