MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Fort Hays State University's track and field team demonstrated exceptional talent during the first day of the 2024 MIAA Outdoor Championships. Competing in the heptathlon, seniors Maggie Remsberg and Tylor Savolt finished in the top five after day one of competition.

In the heptathlon, Maggie Remsberg led the charge for the Tigers, securing the second position with an impressive total of 3,113 points. Remsberg's performance was highlighted by her strong showing in the 100m hurdles, where she clocked 14.49 seconds, earning her 910 points and a third-place finish. She excelled in the 200m event as well, crossing the line in 25.78 seconds, securing 817 points and a fourth-place finish.

Taylor Savlot also delivered a noteworthy performance, holding the fourth position with a total of 2,833 points. Savolt dominated the 100m hurdles, clocking an impressive 14.47 seconds, earning her 913 points and a first-place finish in the event. She continued her strong performance in the 200m, ending with another first place finish with a time of 24.95 seconds, earning 891 points.

Hadley Williams and Kylin Rudzik also represented FHSU in the heptathlon, holding the ninth and twelfth positions after day one in the heptathlon.

In the decathlon, Ethan Salmans led the Tigers' efforts, claiming the sixth position with a total of 2,739 points. Salmans showcased his speed in the 100m, clocking 10.99 seconds and earning 863 points. He also displayed skill in the long jump, covering a distance of 21-3.50 and securing 695 points.

Jonah Remsberg and Luke Hampl also contributed in the decathlon, securing the eighth and eleventh positions.

The multi-athletes will resume competition Saturday (May 4) beginning at 10 a.m. before the rest of the squad joins in later that afternoon. Select field event finals are slated to begin at noon, with action on the track commencing at 4:30 p.m.
