⚾ Monarchs go 1-1 on second day of Diamond Classic

HAYS – After starting the Western Diamond Classic with a win over Hays High on Thursday, the TMP baseball team went 1-1 on day two.

GAME 1: Life Prep 5, TMP 0
In their first action of the day the Monarchs were held hitless and managed just seven base runners in a 5-0 loss to Life Prep Academy.

Life Prep scored a pair of runs on an error in the first inning before the two teams settled in for three straight scoreless innings before the Fire scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on their way to a 5-0 win.

TMP’s Ty Schmeidler battled through 4 2/3 innings, allowed five runs, two earned on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts but suffered the loss.

TMP was held to just five walks and had two hit by pitches.

GAME 2: TMP 7, Brush 0
After a disappointing start to the day the Monarchs bounced back with a 7-0 win over Brusch, Colorado to improve to 2-1 at the tournament.

Carson Liles put the Monarchs on the board in the top of the first inning with an RBI double. Logan Baalmann added an RBI groundout for a 2-0 lead.

Neither team was able to score over the next four innings, before TMP scored two more in the sixth and three in the top of the seventh in a 7-0 win.

After two quick outs Caden Dinkel drove home a run putting TMP up 3-0.

Liles followed with an RBI double giving TMP a 4-0 lead.

Leading 4-0 TMP’s Jacob Seib, Joey Mindrup and Baxton Basgall hit three straight RBI singles giving TMP a 7-0 lead as they went on to secure the victory.

Basgall, Dinkel and Liles each collected two hits. Liles drove in two runs.

Liles turned in seven shutout innings allowing just two hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.

TMP improves to 16-7 and will take on Manhattan at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
