🏃‍♀️ Four all-conference performances for the Tigers after day two at MIAA

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Fort Hays State University track and field teams delivered commendable performances on day two of the 2024 MIAA Outdoor Championships Saturday. The teams picked up four All-MIAA performances along with four national qualifying marks.

The Tiger women currently sit in fourth place in the teams' standings while the men hold on to the sixth spot. The women have a total of 26 points, while the men accumulated 22 so far.

Taylor Savolt and Maggie Remsberg displayed exceptional prowess in the heptathlon, with Savolt securing a notable fourth place finish in the 100mH prelims with a time of 14.35 seconds, earning her a spot in the finals. Maggie Remsberg also showcased her versatility, securing sixth place in the 100mH prelims with a time of 14.59 seconds. Remsberg will have a chance tomorrow in the 100mH finals.

In the women's long jump, Taylor Savolt emerged as a standout performer, clinching an impressive second-place finish with a jump of 19-2.50. Her exceptional athleticism not only secured her a coveted provisional mark and All-MIAA designation but also contributed a pivotal eight points to the team's overall score. Building on her success, Savolt maintained her stellar performance in the 400mH prelims, seizing a notable fourth-place spot with a swift time of 1:01.20. She will have a chance for yet another All-MIAA honree tomorrow in the 400mH.

Toby Wahlmeier impressed in the sprints, clinching respectable finishes in both the 100m and 200m prelims. His standout performance earned him seventh place in the 200m prelims with a time of 21.43 seconds, securing a spot in the final round tomorrow. Ethan LangAaron Mangan, and Trever Medina demonstrated their 800m prowess in the prelims, clinching top spots and contributing valuable points to the team's overall standings. Lang finished in fourth, while Mangan and Medina finished close behind. Tomorrow presents a promising opportunity for the trio to vie for All-MIAA honors, with Lang being the sole returning outdoor All-Conference honoree among them.

Grant Bradley delivered a standout performance in the 3,000m steeplechase, clinching an impressive second place finish with a time of 8:55.86. His remarkable effort not only earned him a provisional mark and All-MIAA designation, but also contributed a valuable eight points to the team's overall score.

The field events saw outstanding performances from Annabeth Baalmann and Jacob Clark in the pole vault, both securing second place finishes with clearances of 13-0.25 feet and 17-0.0 feet respectively, contributing both provisional and All-MIAA honors to the individuals. Both athletes will receive their first outdoor All-MIAA honor.

In the women's 10,000m event, Jaycee Vath led the charge for the Tigers, securing a solid ninth place finish with a time of 37:07.82. Following closely behind, Regan Hodsden and Darian Hudgeons displayed impressive performances, finishing 11th and 13th, with times of 37:23.40 and 37:25.20.

In the discus throw, Jessica Saunders demonstrated her strength, securing an eighth place finish with a throw of 137-0.0. Her throw earned the team a valuable point added to the team total. Liberty Booker delivered a commendable performance in the hammer throw, finishing 12th with a distance of 158-09.

Jonah Remsberg showcased his versatility and skill, securing an impressive fourth-place finish with a total score of 6,567 points in the decathlon. His standout performance across various disciplines included a remarkable first-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 165-05, along with another first-place finish in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:38.08. Remsberg demonstrated his prowess in the pole vault, securing a commendable third-place spot with a height of 13-8.50. Ethan Salmans also delivered a commendable effort, securing an eighth-place finish with a total score of 6,212 points.

The festivities will wrap up Sunday, with the field events beginning at 11:15 a.m. and the running events at 1:30 p.m.
