🎾 Tigers close season with loss to No. 13 Ichabods

TOPEKA, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis closed its 2023-24 season on Saturday with a 7-0 loss to No. 13 ranked Washburn. The Tigers finished 6-15 overall for the season. Washburn improved to 18-4 overall and 6-2 in the MIAA.

Ines Latorre (No. 4) won the first set of her match in singles play, but saw her opponent rally for a second set win and a 10-5 win in the tiebreaker set. Fiorella Mendez (No. 5) won four games within her match, taking two in each set in her final match at FHSU. Grace Unruh (No. 6) won three games in the first set of her match, while Yone Pereiro (No. 3) also took three games in her match with two in the first set and one in the second. Irina Alfonso (No. 2) took a game in each set of her match, while Shreethika Vangala took a game off the No. 5 ranked player in the nation, Maja Jung, in the firs set of her match.

Washburn swept doubles competition by yielding only two games to the Tigers over the three matches contested. The only difference from the usual Tiger lineup was Latorre being paired with Vangala at No. 1 and Mendez being paired with Alfonso at No. 2.
