An electrical fire is believed to be the cause of a fire Monday afternoon on the west edge of Hays damaged the combine and burn wheat stubble.

According to Ellis County Fire Chief Darin Myers, crews were dispatched to the 700 block of Butterfield Trail for the report of a combine on fire just after 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Myers said the owner of the 2008 Case IH 8010 found the electrical fire and was able to put it out quickly, limiting the damage to the combine.

Less than an acre of wheat stubble burned before crews put it out. They also checked over the combine.

Crews were on scene for less than an hour, according to Myers.

Myers said this was one of the first farm-related fires they have responded to this year.
