⚾ Monarchs sweep top ranked Sacred Heart

HAYS - The TMP-Marian Monarchs handed the state ranked Sacred Heart Knights their first losses of the season Monday as they picked up a doubleheader sweep at home, winning 12-2 and 7-0.

GAME 1: TMP 12, Sacred Heart 2 (5 innings)
In the first game of the doubleheader the Monarchs scored four runs in the third inning and then blew the game open with eight in the fifth on their way to the 12-2 victory.

After Sacred Heart scored the game’s first run, in the top of the third inning, TMP answered with four in the bottom of the third.

Logan Baalmann got the scoring started with an RBI single, scoring Joey Mindrup who led off the inning with a walk. Then with the bases loaded Ty Schmeidler was hit by a pitch putting TMP up 2-1. Adler Brown followed with a bases loaded walk making it 3-1 and then a Kendall Walked RBI ground out gave TMP a 4-1 lead through three innings.

Sacred Heart got a run back in the top of the fourth before the Monarchs offense scored eight times in the bottom of the fifth.

After a walk and a single to open the inning an error by the third baseman allowed a run to score putting TMP up 5-2. Kendall Walker loaded the bases with a walk ahead of Connor Breit who plated a run with a bases loaded walk for a 6-2 lead.

Then with the bases loaded Mindrup cleared the bases on a double to left field giving TMP a 9-2 lead.

Later in the inning Caden Dinkel doubled in a run, Carson Liles followed with an RBI single and then Ty Schmeidler ended the game with an RBI triple giving TMP the 12-2 run-rule victory in five innings.

Mindrup, one of two seniors honor for the Monarchs on senior day, finished 3-for-4 with three RBI’s and two runs scored. The Monarchs also honored fellow senior Kendall Walker Monday.

Schmeidler earned the win. He allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in four innings.

GAME 2: TMP 7, Sacred Heart 0
The Monarchs offensive output carried over into game two, scoring four runs in the first on their way to a 7-o victory.

The first four hitters of the bottom of the first for TMP reached, three on singles and one on an error.

The first two runs scored on an error by the left field from Sacred Heart. Logan Baalmann added the third run of the game for TMP on a single to left. He later scored on a wild pitch making it 4-0 TMP.

Leading 4-0, with two outs in the second inning, Baalmann added another RBI single putting TMP up 5-0. The Monarchs added a sixth run on a wild pitch for a 6-0 lead through two innings.

In the third inning TMP loaded the bases, thanks to back-to-back hit by pitches and a walk, for Joey Mindrup who drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for a 7-0 TMP lead.

The Monarchs pitching did the rest on their way to the 7-0 victory.

Carson Liles earned the win. He allowed four hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 4 2/3 scoreless innnigs.

Adler Brown and Caden Dinkel combined for 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Braxton Basgall and Logan Baalmann each collected  two hits and Baalman drove in two in the win.

TMP improves to 14-6 while Sacred Heart falls to 16-2.

TMP will take on Hays High Thursday in the first game of the Diamond Classic at Hays High.
