LIBERAL – The Hays High
boys golf team closed out their regular season with a third-place finish Tuesday
at the Liberal Invitational at the Willow Tree Golf Course. The Indians shot a
328 and finished one stroke behind second place Garden City and 18 back of
first place Dodge City.

Two Indians placed in
the top-10. Braxton Banker fired an 8-over-par 80 and finished sixth. Caleb
Thompson shot an 81 and placed 10th. Trey Oakley and Cooper Johnson both had
rounds of 83 and finished just outside the top-10.

Garden City’s Maddix Shook
won the individual title with a 2-over-par 74. He was named the WAC Golfer of
the Year.

HHS finishes third in
the season standings behind Dodge City and Garden City. Thompson was named All-WAC
with Banker named honorable mention. Dodge City’s Jim Mapel was named WAC Coach
of the Year.

HHS will be at the Salina Municipal Golf Course for their 5A regional on Monday.
