SEDGWICK COUNTY —Crews are operating at the scene of a large pallet fire at Evergreen Recycle, in the 300 block of W 53rd St N. in Park City.

The alarm at approximately 7p.m. originally brought the Sedgwick County Fire District 1 crews to the scene, with Wichita Fire crews responding as arriving units requested additional resources.

Crews were operating aerial streams from ladder apparatus to knock down the flames.

Due to the nature of the large mass of wood products involved and the limited water supply, crews worked through the night to bring this fire under control.

Thousands of gallons of water a minute were being applied with minimal effect, according to the Wichita Fire Department. This is due to the deep seat of the fire and heat dissipating the water before it can reach the materials some 20-30 feet deep.

Law enforcement asked the public to avoid this area and allow crews to work. 53rd Street is closed until further notice between Arkansas and Broadway, according to Park City Police.  Authorities have reported no injuries.
