THOMAS COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 2:30a.m. Wednesday in Thomas County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a Beech fixed wing, multi engine aircraft piloted by Kelly B. Gabel, 40, Colby, was taking off at the Colby Airport.

The front wheel dolly did not detach from the front wheel. When the pilot got into the air he noticed that the wheel dolly was still attached and called the Fire Department. While the Fire Department was enroute, the right engine failed and the pilot had to conduct a crash landing in a field near the airport.

EMS transported Gabel to Citizen's Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
